1 Cast your bread on the water, eventual y you wil recover it.	1 Spargi il tuo pane sopra le acque, che passano; perocché dopo lungo tratto di tempo tel troverai.
2 Offer a share to seven or to eight people, you can never tell what disaster may occur.	2 Da la loro porzione ai sette, ed anche agli otto; perocché tu non sai quali sciagure sian per venire sopra la terra.
3 When clouds are ful of rain, they wil shed it on the earth. If a tree fal s, whether south or north, whereit falls, there it wil lie.	3 Quando le nuvole sono piene, elle scarica in pioggia sopra la terra. Se l'albero cade verso il mezzodì, o verso settentrione, dovunque cada, ivi si resta.
4 Keep watching the wind and you wil never sow, keep staring at the clouds and you will never reap.	4 Chi bada ai venti non semina, e chi fa attenzione alle nuvole, non mieterà.
5 You do not understand how the wind blows, or how the embryo grows in a woman's womb: no morecan you understand the work of God, the Creator of al .	5 Siccome tu non sai donde venga l'anima, e in qual modo si assodino le ossa nell'utero della donna incinta; così non conosci le altre opere di Dio, facitore di tutte le cose.
6 In the morning, sow your seed, until evening, do not cease from labour, for of any two things you donot know which wil succeed, or which of the two is the better.	6 Spargi di buon mattino la tua semenza, e nemmen la sera sia oziosa la tua mano, perché tu non sai se quella, o piuttosto questa semenza germoglierà: e se verrà bene l'una, e l'altra, tanto meglio.
7 How sweet light is, how delightful it is to see the sun!	7 Dolce cosa è la luce, e dilettevole agli occhi è la vista del sole.
8 However many years you live, enjoy them all, but remember, the days of darkness wil be many: futilityawaits you at the end.	8 Ma se un uomo vive molti anni, e questi tutti sempre lieti, deve ricordarsi di quel tempo tenebroso, e di que' lunghi giorni, venuti i quali tutte le passate cose saran convinte di vanità.
9 Young man, enjoy yourself while you are young, make the most of the days of your youth, follow theprompting and desire of heart and eye, but remember, God wil cal you to account for everything.	9 Goditi adunque, o giovine, di tua fresca età, e sia lieto il tuo cuore ne giorni di tua giovinezza, e segui le inclinazioni del tuo cuore, e quel che piace a' tuoi occhi; ma sappi, che per tutte queste cose ti chiamerà Dio mi discaccia dal tuo cuore l'ira e il male tien lungi dalla tua carne; perocché e la gioventù, e i piaceri sono vanità.
10 Rid your heart of indignation, keep your body clear of suffering, though youth and the age of blackhair are both futile.
