NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Cast your bread on the water, eventual y you wil recover it.	1 GITTA il tuo pane sopra le acque; perciocchè tu lo ritroverai lungo tempo appresso.
2 Offer a share to seven or to eight people, you can never tell what disaster may occur.	2 Fanne parte a sette, anzi ad otto; perciocchè tu non sai qual male avverrà sopra la terra.
3 When clouds are ful of rain, they wil shed it on the earth. If a tree fal s, whether south or north, whereit falls, there it wil lie.	3 Quando le nuvole son piene, versano la pioggia in su la terra; e quando l’albero cade, o verso il Mezzodì, o verso il Settentrione, ove egli cade quivi resta.
4 Keep watching the wind and you wil never sow, keep staring at the clouds and you will never reap.	4 Chi pon mente al vento non seminerà; e chi riguarda alle nuvole non mieterà.
5 You do not understand how the wind blows, or how the embryo grows in a woman's womb: no morecan you understand the work of God, the Creator of al .	5 Come tu non sai qual sia la via del vento, nè come si formino l’ossa dentro al seno della donna gravida; così tu non conosci le opere di Dio, il qual fa tutte queste cose.
6 In the morning, sow your seed, until evening, do not cease from labour, for of any two things you donot know which wil succeed, or which of the two is the better.	6 Semina la mattina la tua semenza, e la sera non lasciar posar le tue mani; perciocchè tu non sai ciò che riuscirà meglio, questo, o quello; o se l’uno e l’altro sarà ugualmente buono
7 How sweet light is, how delightful it is to see the sun!	7 Ben è la luce cosa dolce, e il vedere il sole cosa piacevole agli occhi.
8 However many years you live, enjoy them all, but remember, the days of darkness wil be many: futilityawaits you at the end.	8 Ma pure, se l’uomo, vivendo molti anni sempre in allegrezza, si ricorda che i giorni delle tenebre saranno molti, tutto quello che gli sarà avvenuto sarà vanità.
9 Young man, enjoy yourself while you are young, make the most of the days of your youth, follow theprompting and desire of heart and eye, but remember, God wil cal you to account for everything.	9 RALLEGRATI pure, o giovane, nella tua fanciullezza; e tengati lieto il cuor tuo a’ dì della tua giovinezza, e cammina nelle vie del cuor tuo, e secondo lo sguardo degli occhi tuoi; ma sappi che per tutte queste cose Iddio ti farà venire in giudicio.
10 Rid your heart of indignation, keep your body clear of suffering, though youth and the age of blackhair are both futile.	10 E togli dal cuor tuo la tristizia, e rimuovi il cordoglio dalla tua carne; perciocchè la fanciullezza e la giovanezza sono una cosa vana
