Proverbs 20

1 Wine is reckless, liquor rowdy; unwise is anyone whom it seduces.	1 Il vino è pieno di lussuria,e e l'ubriachezza di tumulti: colui al quale piaccion tali cose non sarà sapiente.
2 Like the roaring of a lion is the fury of a king; whoever provokes him sins against himself.	2 L'ira del re è come il ruggito del leone, chi lo irrita pecca contro la sua vita.
3 It is praiseworthy to stop short of a law-suit; only a fool flies into a rage.	3 E' un onore per l'uomo star lontano dalle contese, ma tutti gli stolti s'immischiano nei litigi.
4 In autumn the idler does not plough, at harvest time he looks -- nothing there!	4 A causa del freddo il pigro non volle arare, andrà dunque ad accattare nell'estate, e non gli sarà dato nulla.
5 The resources of the human heart are like deep waters: an understanding person has only to draw onthem.	5 Come acque profonde sono i disegni nel cuore dell'uomo, ma l'uomo sapiente li trarrà fuori.
6 Many describe themselves as people of faithful love, but who can find someone real y to be trusted?	6 Molti uomini son chiamati misericordiosi, ma un uomo fedele chi lo potrà trovare?
7 The upright whose ways are blameless -- blessed the children who come after!	7 Il giusto che cammina nella sua integrità lascerà felici dietro di sé i suoi figlioli.
8 A king enthroned on the judgement seat with one look scatters al that is evil.	8 Il re assiso sul trono dove rende giustizia col suo sguardo dissipa ogni male.
9 Who can say, 'I have cleansed my heart, I am purified of my sin'?	9 Chi può dire: « Il mio cuore è senza macchia, sono immune dal peccato? »
10 One weight here, another there; here one measure, there another: both alike are abhorrent toYahweh.	10 Doppio peso, doppia misura, sono ambedue abbonainevoli davanti a Dio.
11 A young man's character appears in what he does, if his behaviour is pure and straight.	11 Dalle inclinazioni del fanciullo si conosce se puro e retto sarà il suo operare.
12 Ear that hears, eye that sees, Yahweh has made both of these.	12 L'orecchio che ascolta e l'occhio che vede li ha fatti tutti e due il Signore.
13 Do not love sleep or you will know poverty; keep your eyes open and have your fil of food.	13 Non amare il sonno, per non essere oppresso dall'indigenza; tieni gli occhi aperti ed avrai pane in abbondanza.
14 'No good, no good!' says the buyer, but he goes off congratulating himself.	14 « Robaccia, robaccia! » dice ogni compratore, ma quando se n'è andato se ne vanta.
15 There are gold and jewels of every type, but a priceless ornament is speech informed by knowledge.	15 Vi è l'oro, e vi sono molte gemme, ma vaso prezioso son le labbra sapienti.
16 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him to the profit ofpersons unknown!	16 Togli la veste a chi si fa mallevadore per uno straniero, e poi' gli stranieri togli il pegno da lui.
17 Bread is sweet when it is got by fraud, but later the mouth is ful of grit.	17 E' dolce all'uomo il pan frodato, ma poi si trova la bocca piena di ghiaiottoli.
18 Plans are matured by consultation; take wise advice when waging war.	18 I disegni prendon vigore dal consiglio, e con savia direzione devono esser condotte le guerre.
19 The bearer of gossip lets out secrets; do not mingle with chatterers.	19 Con chi rivela i segreti e procede con frode, e apro troppo le labbra, non aver che fare.
20 Whoever curses father or mother wil have his lamp put out in the deepest darkness.	20 Chi maledice il padre e la madre, si estinguerà la sua lampada nel folto delle tenebre.
21 Property quickly come by at first wil not be blessed in the end.	21 Il patrimonio messo insieme da principio con celerità, sarà alla fine privo di benedizione.
22 Do not say, 'I shall repay evil'; put your hope in Yahweh and he wil keep you safe.	22 Non dire: « Mi vendicherò »; aspetta il Signore ed Egli ti libererà.
23 One weight here, another there: this is abhorrent to Yahweh, false scales are not good.	23 E' in abominio davanti a Dio il doppio peso, e la bilancia falsa non è cosa buona.
24 Yahweh guides the steps of the powerful: but who can comprehend human ways?	24 I passi dell'uomo son diretti dal Signore, chi degli uomini potrà capire la via da tenere?
25 Anyone is trapped who cries 'Dedicated!' and begins to reflect only after the vow.	25 E' rovinoso per l'uomo divorare i santi, e dopo i voti pentirsene.
26 A wise king winnows the wicked and makes the wheel pass over them.	26 Il re saggio disperde gli empi ed innalza sopra di essi un arco trionfale.
27 The human spirit is the lamp of Yahweh -- searching the deepest self.	27 Lo spirito dell'uomo è fiaccola del Signore la quale penetra le più intime viscere.
28 Faithful love and loyalty mount guard over the king, his throne is founded on saving justice.	28 La bontà e la fedeltà custodiscono il re; il trono di lui è reso stabile dalla clemenza.
29 The pride of the young is their strength, the ornament of the old, grey hairs.	29 Gloria dei giovani è la loro forza, ornamento dei vecchi è la canizie.
30 Wounding strokes are good medicine for evil, blows have an effect on the inmost self.	30 Il livido delle percosse fa sparire i mali, così pure le piaghe nel più intimo delle viscere.
