Proverbs 20

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Wine is reckless, liquor rowdy; unwise is anyone whom it seduces.	1 El vino es excitante y la bebida turbulenta: el que se embriaga no se hará sabio.
2 Like the roaring of a lion is the fury of a king; whoever provokes him sins against himself.	2 Como rugido de león es la furia del rey: el que lo pone fuera de si se juega la vida.
3 It is praiseworthy to stop short of a law-suit; only a fool flies into a rage.	3 Es un honor para el hombre evitar las disputas, pero el necio provoca su estallido.
4 In autumn the idler does not plough, at harvest time he looks -- nothing there!	4 El perezoso no ara en otoño, en la cosecha busca, y no hay nada.
5 The resources of the human heart are like deep waters: an understanding person has only to draw onthem.	5 Aguas profundas son los designios del corazón humano: el hombre inteligente sabe extraerlas.
6 Many describe themselves as people of faithful love, but who can find someone real y to be trusted?	6 Muchos se precian de su fidelidad, pero ¿quién encontrará a un hombre sincero?
7 The upright whose ways are blameless -- blessed the children who come after!	7 El justo camina con integridad, ¡felices sus hijos después de él!
8 A king enthroned on the judgement seat with one look scatters al that is evil.	8 Un rey sentado en el tribunal discierne con su mirada toda maldad.
9 Who can say, 'I have cleansed my heart, I am purified of my sin'?	9 ¿Quién puede decir: «Purifiqué mi corazón, estoy limpio de mi pecado»?
10 One weight here, another there; here one measure, there another: both alike are abhorrent toYahweh.	10 Usar dos pesas y dos medidas, ambas cosas las hizo el Señor.
11 A young man's character appears in what he does, if his behaviour is pure and straight.	11 Por su manera de obrar, el niño ya da a conocer si su conducta será pura y recta.
12 Ear that hears, eye that sees, Yahweh has made both of these.	12 El oído que oye y el ojo que ve: ambas cosas las hizo el Señor.
13 Do not love sleep or you will know poverty; keep your eyes open and have your fil of food.	13 No ames el sueño, para no empobrecerte, abre bien los ojos y te saciarás de pan.
14 'No good, no good!' says the buyer, but he goes off congratulating himself.	14 ¡»Malo, malo!», dice el comprador, pero apenas sale, se felicita.
15 There are gold and jewels of every type, but a priceless ornament is speech informed by knowledge.	15 Hay oro y muchas perlas, pero nada más precioso que una boca sabia.
16 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him to the profit ofpersons unknown!	16 Toma su ropa, porque salió fiador de otro, tómalo a él como prenda, porque dio su aval a gente extraña.
17 Bread is sweet when it is got by fraud, but later the mouth is ful of grit.	17 Es agradable al hombre el pan de la mentira, pero después la boca se le llena de guijarros.
18 Plans are matured by consultation; take wise advice when waging war.	18 Los proyectos se afianzan con el consejo y la guerra se hace con estrategia.
19 The bearer of gossip lets out secrets; do not mingle with chatterers.	19 El calumniador descubre los secretos, no tengas nada que ver con un charlatán.
20 Whoever curses father or mother wil have his lamp put out in the deepest darkness.	20 Al que maldice a su padre y a su madre se le apagará la lámpara en plena oscuridad.
21 Property quickly come by at first wil not be blessed in the end.	21 Fortuna adquirida rápidamente al comienzo no será bendecida al final.
22 Do not say, 'I shall repay evil'; put your hope in Yahweh and he wil keep you safe.	22 No digas: «Voy a pagar mal con mal», espera en el Señor y él te salvará.
23 One weight here, another there: this is abhorrent to Yahweh, false scales are not good.	23 El Señor abomina el uso de dos pesas, las balanzas falseadas no son nada bueno.
24 Yahweh guides the steps of the powerful: but who can comprehend human ways?	24 Del Señor dependen los pasos del hombre: ¿cómo puede el hombre comprender su camino?
25 Anyone is trapped who cries 'Dedicated!' and begins to reflect only after the vow.	25 Es una trampa para el hombre consagrar algo a la ligera y recapacitar después de hacer un voto.
26 A wise king winnows the wicked and makes the wheel pass over them.	26 Un rey sabio discierne a los malvados y hace girar la rueda sobre ellos.
27 The human spirit is the lamp of Yahweh -- searching the deepest self.	27 El espíritu del hombre es una lámpara del Señor, que sondea hasta el fondo de sus entrañas.
28 Faithful love and loyalty mount guard over the king, his throne is founded on saving justice.	28 La bondad y la fidelidad custodian al rey, y él sostiene su trono por la justicia.
29 The pride of the young is their strength, the ornament of the old, grey hairs.	29 La gloria de los jóvenes es su vigor, y el esplendor de los ancianos, los cabellos blancos.
30 Wounding strokes are good medicine for evil, blows have an effect on the inmost self.	30 Las llagas de una herida son un remedio para el mal y los golpes curan hasta el fondo de las entrañas.
