NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 [Psalm Of Asaph] My people, listen to my teaching, pay attention to what I say.	1 Hino de Asaf. Escuta, ó meu povo, minha doutrina; às palavras de minha boca presta atenção.
2 I will speak to you in poetry, unfold the mysteries of the past.	2 Abrirei os lábios, pronunciarei sentenças, desvendarei os mistérios das origens.
3 What we have heard and know, what our ancestors have told us	3 O que ouvimos e aprendemos, através de nossos pais,
4 we shal not conceal from their descendants, but wil tell to a generation stil to come: the praises ofYahweh, his power, the wonderful deeds he has done.	4 nada ocultaremos a seus filhos, narrando à geração futura os louvores do Senhor, seu poder e suas obras grandiosas.
5 He instituted a witness in Jacob, he established a law in Israel, he commanded our ancestors to handit down to their descendants,	5 Ele promulgou uma lei para Jacó, instituiu a legislação de Israel, para que aquilo que confiara a nossos pais, eles o transmitissem a seus filhos,
6 that a generation stil to come might know it, children yet to be born. They should be sure to tel theirown children,	6 a fim de que a nova geração o conhecesse, e os filhos que lhes nascessem pudessem também contar aos seus.
7 and should put their trust in God, never forgetting God's great deeds, always keeping his commands,	7 Aprenderiam, assim, a pôr em Deus sua esperança, a não esquecer as divinas obras, a observar as suas leis;
8 and not, like their ancestors, be a stubborn and rebel ious generation, a generation weak of purpose,their spirit fickle towards God.	8 e a não se tornar como seus pais, geração rebelde e contumaz, de coração desviado, de espírito infiel a Deus.
9 The archer sons of Ephraim turned tail when the time came for fighting;	9 Os filhos de Efraim, hábeis no arco, voltaram as costas no dia do combate.
10 they failed to keep God's covenant, they refused to fol ow his Law;	10 Não guardaram a divina aliança, recusaram observar a sua lei.
11 they had forgotten his great deeds, the marvels he had shown them;	11 Eles esqueceram suas obras, e as maravilhas operadas ante seus olhos.
12 he did marvels in the sight of their ancestors in Egypt, in the plains of Tanis.	12 Em presença de seus pais, ainda em terras do Egito, ele fez grandes prodígios nas planícies de Tanis.
13 He split the sea and brought them through, made the waters stand up like a dam;	13 O mar foi dividido para lhes dar passagem, represando as águas, verticais como um dique;
14 he led them with a cloud by day, and al the night with the light of a fire;	14 De dia ele os conduziu por trás de uma nuvem, e à noite ao clarão de uma flama.
15 he split rocks in the desert, let them drink as though from the limitless depths;	15 Rochedos foram fendidos por ele no deserto, com torrentes de água os dessedentara.
16 he brought forth streams from a rock, made waters flow down in torrents.	16 Da pedra fizera jorrar regatos, e manar água como rios.
17 But they only sinned against him more than ever, defying the Most High in barren country;	17 Entretanto, continuaram a pecar contra ele, e a se revoltar contra o Altíssimo no deserto.
18 they deliberately chal enged God by demanding food to their hearts' content.	18 Provocaram o Senhor em seus corações, reclamando iguarias de suas preferências.
19 They insulted God by saying, 'Can God make a banquet in the desert?	19 E falaram contra Deus: Deus será capaz de nos servir uma mesa no deserto?
20 True, when he struck the rock, waters gushed out and flowed in torrents; but what of bread? Can hegive that, can he provide meat for his people?'	20 Eis que feriu a rocha para fazer jorrar dela água em torrentes. Mas poderia ele nos dar pão e preparar carne para seu povo?
21 When he heard them Yahweh vented his anger, fire blazed against Jacob, his anger mountedagainst Israel,	21 O Senhor ouviu e se irritou: sua cólera se acendeu contra Jacó, e sua ira se desencadeou contra Israel,
22 because they had no faith in God, no trust in his power to save.	22 porque não tiveram fé em Deus, nem confiaram em seu auxílio.
23 Even so he gave orders to the skies above, he opened the sluice-gates of heaven;	23 Contudo, ele ordenou às nuvens do alto, e abriu as portas do céu.
24 he rained down manna to feed them, he gave them the wheat of heaven;	24 Fez chover o maná para saciá-los, deu-lhes o trigo do céu.
25 mere mortals ate the bread of the Mighty, he sent them as much food as they could want.	25 Pôde o homem comer o pão dos fortes, e lhes mandou víveres em abundância,
26 He roused an east wind in the heavens, despatched a south wind by his strength;	26 depois fez soprar no céu o vento leste, e seu poder levantou o vento sul.
27 he rained down meat on them like dust, birds thick as sand on the seashore,	27 Fez chover carnes, então, como poeira, numerosas aves como as areias do mar,
28 tumbling into the middle of his camp, al around his dwel ing-place.	28 As quais caíram em seus acampamentos, ao redor de suas tendas.
29 They ate as much food as they wanted, he satisfied al their cravings;	29 Delas comeram até se fartarem, e satisfazerem os seus desejos.
30 but their cravings were still upon them, the food was stil in their mouths,	30 Mas apenas o apetite saciaram, estando-lhes na boca ainda o alimento,
31 when the wrath of God attacked them, slaughtering their strongest men, laying low the flower ofIsrael.	31 desencadeia-se contra eles a cólera divina, fazendo perecer a sua elite, e prostrando a juventude de Israel.
32 Despite al this, they went on sinning, they put no faith in his marvels.	32 Malgrado tudo isso, persistiram em pecar, não se deixaram persuadir por seus prodígios.
33 He made their days vanish in mist, their years in sudden ruin.	33 Então, Deus pôs súbito termo a seus dias, e seus anos tiveram repentino fim.
34 Whenever he slaughtered them, they began to seek him, they turned back and looked eagerly forhim,	34 Quando os feria, eles o procuravam, e de novo se voltavam para Deus.
35 recalling that God was their rock, God the Most High, their redeemer.	35 E se lembravam que Deus era o seu rochedo, e que o Altíssimo lhes era o salvador.
36 They tried to hoodwink him with their mouths, their tongues were deceitful towards him;	36 Mas suas palavras enganavam, e lhe mentiam com a sua língua.
37 their hearts were not loyal to him, they were not faithful to his covenant.	37 Seus corações não falavam com franqueza, não eram fiéis à sua aliança.
38 But in his compassion he forgave their guilt instead of kil ing them, time and again repressing hisanger instead of rousing his full wrath,	38 Mas ele, por compaixão, perdoava-lhes a falta e não os exterminava. Muitas vezes reteve sua cólera, não se entregando a todo o seu furor.
39 remembering they were creatures of flesh, a breath of wind that passes, never to return.	39 Sabendo que eles eram simples carne, um sopro só, que passa sem voltar.
40 How often they defied him in the desert! How often they grieved him in the wastelands!	40 Quantas vezes no deserto o provocaram, e na solidão o afligiram!
41 Repeatedly they chal enged God, provoking the Holy One of Israel,	41 Recomeçaram a tentar a Deus, a exasperar o Santo de Israel.
42 not remembering his hand, the time when he saved them from the oppressor,	42 Esqueceram a obra de suas mãos, no dia em que os livrou do adversário,
43 he who did his signs in Egypt, his miracles in the plains of Tanis,	43 quando operou seus prodígios no Egito e maravilhas nas planícies de Tânis;
44 turning their rivers to blood, their streams so that they had nothing to drink.	44 quando converteu seus rios em sangue, a fim de impedi-los de beber de suas águas;
45 He sent horseflies to eat them up, and frogs to devastate them,	45 quando enviou moscas para os devorar e rãs que os infestaram;
46 consigning their crops to the caterpil ar, the fruit of their hard work to the locust;	46 quando entregou suas colheitas aos pulgões, e aos gafanhotos o fruto de seu trabalho;
47 he kil ed their vines with hail, their sycamore trees with frost,	47 quando arrasou suas vinhas com o granizo, e suas figueiras com a geada;
48 delivering up their cattle to hail, and their flocks to thunderbolts.	48 quando extinguiu seu gado com saraivadas, e seus rebanhos pelos raios;
49 He loosed against them the ful heat of his anger, fury, rage and destruction, a detachment ofdestroying angels;	49 quando descarregou o ardor de sua cólera, indignação, furor, tribulação, um esquadrão de anjos da desgraça.
50 he gave free course to his anger. He did not exempt their own selves from death, delivering up theirlives to the plague.	50 Deu livre curso à sua cólera; longe de preservá-los da morte, ele entregou à peste os seres vivos.
51 He struck all the first-born in Egypt, the flower of the youth in the tents of Ham.	51 Matou os primogênitos no Egito, os primeiros partos nas habitações de Cam,
52 He brought out his people like sheep, guiding them like a flock in the desert,	52 enquanto retirou seu povo como ovelhas, e o fez atravessar o deserto como rebanho.
53 leading them safe and unafraid, while the sea engulfed their enemies.	53 Conduziu-o com firmeza sem nada ter que temer, enquanto aos inimigos os submergiu no mar.
54 He brought them to his holy land, the hil -country won by his right hand;	54 Ele os levou para uma terra santa, até os montes que sua destra conquistou.
55 he dispossessed nations before them, measured out a heritage for each of them, and settled thetribes of Israel in their tents.	55 Ele expulsou nações diante deles, distribuiu-lhes as terras como herança, fez habitar em suas tendas as tribos de Israel.
56 But stil they chal enged the Most High God and defied him, refusing to keep his decrees;	56 Mas ainda tentaram a Deus e provocaram o Altíssimo, e não observaram os seus preceitos.
57 as perverse and treacherous as their ancestors, they gave way like a faulty bow,	57 Transviaram-se e prevaricaram como seus pais, erraram o alvo, como um arco mal entesado.
58 provoking him with their high places, rousing his jealousy with their idols.	58 Provocaram-lhe a ira com seus lugares altos, e inflamaram-lhe o zelo com seus ídolos.
59 God listened and vented his wrath, he totally rejected Israel;	59 À vista disso Deus se encolerizou e rejeitou Israel severamente.
60 he forsook his dwelling in Shiloh, the tent where he used to dwel on the earth.	60 Abandonou o santuário de Silo, tabernáculo onde habitara entre os homens.
61 He abandoned his power to captivity, his splendour to the enemy's clutches;	61 Deixou conduzir cativa a arca de sua força, permitiu que a arca de sua glória caísse em mãos inimigas.
62 he gave up his people to the sword, he vented his wrath on his own heritage.	62 Abandonou seu povo à espada, e se irritou contra a sua herança.
63 Fire devoured their young men, their young girls had no wedding-song;	63 O fogo devorou sua juventude, suas filhas não encontraram desponsório.
64 their priests fel by the sword and their widows sang no dirge.	64 Seus sacerdotes pereceram pelo gládio, e as viúvas não choraram mais seus mortos.
65 The Lord arose as though he had been asleep, like a strong man fighting-mad with wine,	65 Então, o Senhor despertou como de um sono, como se fosse um guerreiro dominado pelo vinho.
66 he struck his enemies on the rump, and put them to everlasting shame.	66 E feriu pelas costas os inimigos, infligindo-lhes eterna igomínia.
67 Rejecting the tents of Joseph, passing over the tribe of Ephraim,	67 Rejeitou o tabernáculo de José, e repeliu a tribo de Efraim.
68 he chose the tribe of Judah, his wel -loved mountain of Zion;	68 Mas escolheu a de Judá e o monte Sião, monte de predileção.
69 he built his sanctuary like high hil s, like the earth set it firm for ever.	69 Construiu seu santuário, qual um céu, estável como a terra, firmada para sempre.
70 He chose David to be his servant, took him from the sheepfold,	70 Escolhendo a Davi, seu servo, e o tomando dos apriscos das ovelhas.
71 took him from tending ewes to pasture his servant Jacob, and Israel his heritage.	71 Chamou-o do cuidado das ovelhas e suas crias, para apascentar o rebanho de Jacó, seu povo, e de Israel, sua herança.
72 He pastured them with unblemished heart, with a sensitive hand he led them.	72 Davi foi para eles um pastor reto de coração, que os dirigiu com mão prudente.
