Job 33

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 So, Job, please listen to my words and attend to al I have to say.	1 « Ascolta dunque, o Giobbe, le mie parole, e poni mente a tutti i miei discorsi.
2 Now as I open my mouth, and my tongue shapes words against my palate,	2 Ecco, ho aperta la mia bocca, la mia lingua già parla sotto il mio palato,
3 I shal utter words of wisdom from the heart, my lips will speak in all sincerity.	3 i miei discorsi verranno da un cuore schietto, e le mie labbra proferiranno la pura verità.
4 God's was the spirit that made me, Shaddai's the breath that gave me life.	4 Lo Spirito di Dio mi ha fatto, e il soffio dell'Onnipotente mi ha dato la vita.
5 Refute me, if you can. Prepare yourself, take up your position!	5 Se puoi, rispondimi, e stai pronto a contraddirmi.
6 Look, I am your equal, not some god, like you I was moulded out of clay.	6 Ecco, Dio ha fatto me come te, e anch'io sono stato formato del medesimo fango:
7 No fear of me, therefore, need affright you, my hand wil not lie heavy over you.	7 quindi ciò che v'ha di mirabile in me non ti spaventi, e la mia eloquenza non ti sia grave.
8 How could you say in my hearing -- for the sound of your words did not escape me-	8 Tu dunque hai detto in mia presenza, ed io ho ben sentito il suono delle tue parole:
9 'I am clean, and sinless, I am pure, without fault.	9 Io sono puro e senza peccato, sono immacolato, e in me non v'è iniquità.
10 But he keeps inventing excuses against me and regards me as his enemy.	10 Egli ha trovato dei pretesti contro di me, e mi ha considerato come suo nemico.
11 He puts me in the stocks, he watches my every path'?	11 Ha posto i miei piedi nei ceppi, ha spiate tutte le mie vie.
12 In saying so, I tel you, you are wrong: for God is greater than any human being.	12 In questo però tu non hai ragione, ed io ti risponderò che Dio è più grande dell'uomo.
13 Why then quarrel with him for not replying to you, word for word?	13 Tu te la rendi contro Dio, perchè egli non ha risposto a tutte le tue parole?
14 God speaks first in one way, and then in another, although we do not realise it.	14 Dio parla una volta sola, e non ripete una seconda volta ciò che ha detto.
15 In dreams and in night-visions, when slumber has settled on humanity and people are asleep in bed,	15 Nei sogni, nelle visioni notturne, quando il sonno discende sopra gli uomini ed essi dormono nel loro letto,
16 he speaks in someone's ear, frightens him with apparitions	16 allora egli apre agli uomini le orecchie, li istruisce e insegna loro la scienza,
17 to turn him from what he is doing and to put an end to his pride.	17 per distogliere l'uomo da quello che fa e liberarlo dalla superbia,
18 And thus he preserves his soul from the abyss, his life from passing down the Canal.	18 per salvare la sua anima dalla corruzione e la sua vita dalla spada.
19 Or again, he corrects by the sufferings of the sick-bed, when someone's bones tremble continuously	19 Lo riprende pure per mezzo del dolore sul suo letto, e fa imputridire tutte le sue ossa.
20 and the thought of food revolts him, however tasty it is,	20 In questo stato egli ha in orrore il pane, e l'anima sua anche il cibo prima tanto desiderato.
21 and his flesh rots away while you watch it and the bones beneath begin to show,	21 La sua carne si va consumando e le ossa, prima coperte, appaion nude.
22 and his soul is drawing nearer to the abyss and his life to the dwel ing of the dead.	22 La sua anima si avvicina alla corruzione, e la sua vita agli apportatori della morte.
23 Then, if there is an Angel near him, a Mediator, one in a thousand, to remind him where his duty lies,	23 Se parlerà in suo favore un angelo, uno delle migliaia destinati ad annunziare all'uomo il dovere,
24 to take pity on him and to say, 'Spare him from going down to the abyss: I have found the ransom forhis life,'	24 Egli ne avrà pietà e dirà: Liberalo, affinchè non scenda nella corruzione: ho trovato motivi d'essergli propizio:
25 his flesh wil recover its childhood freshness, he wil return to the days of his youth.	25 sia sua carne è stata consunta dai supplizi: si torni ai giorni della sua giovinezza.
26 He wil pray to God who has restored him to favour, and wil come into his presence with joy. He wiltel others how he has received saving justice	26 Egli pregherà Dio, e Dio gli sarà propizio; egli vedrà con gioia la sua faccia, e Dio renderà all'uomo la sua giustizia:
27 and sing this hymn before his companions, 'I sinned and left the path of right, but God has notpunished me as my sin deserved.	27 egli si volgerà agli uomini e dirà: Peccai, veramente mancai, e non sono stato punito secondo il mio merito.
28 He has spared my soul from going down to the abyss and is making my life see the light.'	28 È libererà l'anima sua dal cader nella morte, per vivere e vedere la luce.
29 All this is what God keeps doing again and yet again for human beings,	29 Ecco, Dio fa tutte queste cose per tre volte con ciascuno,
30 to snatch souls back from the abyss and to make the light of the living stil shine.	30 affine di richiamare le anime degli uomini dalla corruzione e irraggiarle colla luce dei viventi.
31 Pay attention, Job, listen to me: keep quiet, I have more to say.	31 Sta' attento, o Giobbe, sfammi a sentire, e taci mentre io parlo.
32 If you have anything to say, refute me, speak out, for I would gladly accept that you are upright.	32 Se poi hai qualche cosa da dire, rispondimi e parla, perchè io voglio che tu comparisca giusto.
33 If not, then listen to me: keep quiet, and I wil teach you wisdom.	33 Ma se non hai nulla, ascoltami, e taci; chè io t'insegnerò la sapienza ».
