Job 33

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 So, Job, please listen to my words and attend to al I have to say.	1 Mais veuille, Job, écouter mes dires, tends l'oreille à toutes mes paroles.
2 Now as I open my mouth, and my tongue shapes words against my palate,	2 Voici que j'ouvre la bouche et ma langue articule des mots sur mon palais.
3 I shal utter words of wisdom from the heart, my lips will speak in all sincerity.	3 Mon coeur délivrera des paroles de science, mes lèvres s'exprimeront avec sincérité.
4 God's was the spirit that made me, Shaddai's the breath that gave me life.	4 C'est l'esprit de Dieu qui m'a fait, le souffle de Shaddaï qui m'anima.
5 Refute me, if you can. Prepare yourself, take up your position!	5 Si tu le peux, réponds-moi! Tiens-toi prêt devant moi, prend position!
6 Look, I am your equal, not some god, like you I was moulded out of clay.	6 Vois, je suis ton égal, non un dieu, comme toi, d'argile je suis pétri.
7 No fear of me, therefore, need affright you, my hand wil not lie heavy over you.	7 Aussi ma terreur ne t'effraiera point, ma main ne pèsera pas sur toi.
8 How could you say in my hearing -- for the sound of your words did not escape me-	8 Comment as-tu pu dire à mes oreilles car -- j'ai entendu le son de tes paroles:
9 'I am clean, and sinless, I am pure, without fault.	9 "Je suis pur, sans transgression; je suis intact, sans faute.
10 But he keeps inventing excuses against me and regards me as his enemy.	10 Mais il invente des prétextes contre moi et il me considère comme son ennemi.
11 He puts me in the stocks, he watches my every path'?	11 Il met mes pieds dans les ceps et surveille tous mes sentiers?"
12 In saying so, I tel you, you are wrong: for God is greater than any human being.	12 Or, en cela, je t'en réponds, tu as eu tort, car Dieu dépasse l'homme.
13 Why then quarrel with him for not replying to you, word for word?	13 Pourquoi lui chercher querelle parce qu'il ne te répond pas mot pour mot?
14 God speaks first in one way, and then in another, although we do not realise it.	14 Dieu parle d'une façon et puis d'une autre, sans qu'on prête attention.
15 In dreams and in night-visions, when slumber has settled on humanity and people are asleep in bed,	15 Par des songes, par des visions nocturnes, quand une torpeur s'abat sur les humains et qu'ils sontendormis sur leur couche,
16 he speaks in someone's ear, frightens him with apparitions	16 alors il parle à leurs oreilles, il les épouvante par des apparitions,
17 to turn him from what he is doing and to put an end to his pride.	17 pour détourner l'homme de ses oeuvres et mettre fin à son orgueil.
18 And thus he preserves his soul from the abyss, his life from passing down the Canal.	18 Il préserve ainsi son âme de la fosse, sa vie du passage par le Canal.
19 Or again, he corrects by the sufferings of the sick-bed, when someone's bones tremble continuously	19 Il le corrige aussi sur son grabat par la souffrance, quand ses os tremblent sans arrêt,
20 and the thought of food revolts him, however tasty it is,	20 quand sa vie prend en dégoût la nourriture et son appétit les friandises;
21 and his flesh rots away while you watch it and the bones beneath begin to show,	21 quand sa chair se consume à vue d'oeil et que se dénudent les os qui étaient cachés;
22 and his soul is drawing nearer to the abyss and his life to the dwel ing of the dead.	22 quand son âme approche de la fosse et sa vie du séjour des morts.
23 Then, if there is an Angel near him, a Mediator, one in a thousand, to remind him where his duty lies,	23 Alors s'il se trouve près de lui un Ange, un Médiateur pris entre mille, qui rappelle à l'homme sondevoir,
24 to take pity on him and to say, 'Spare him from going down to the abyss: I have found the ransom forhis life,'	24 le prenne en pitié et déclare: "Exempte-le de descendre dans la fosse: j'ai trouvé la rançon pour savie",
25 his flesh wil recover its childhood freshness, he wil return to the days of his youth.	25 sa chair retrouve une fraîcheur juvénile, il revient aux jours de son adolescence.
26 He wil pray to God who has restored him to favour, and wil come into his presence with joy. He wiltel others how he has received saving justice	26 Il prie Dieu qui lui rend sa faveur, il vient le voir dans l'allégresse. Il annonce à autrui sa justification
27 and sing this hymn before his companions, 'I sinned and left the path of right, but God has notpunished me as my sin deserved.	27 et fait entendre devant les hommes ce cantique: "J'avais péché et perverti le droit: Dieu ne m'a pastraité selon ma faute.
28 He has spared my soul from going down to the abyss and is making my life see the light.'	28 Il a exempté mon âme de passer par la fosse et fait jouir ma vie de la lumière."
29 All this is what God keeps doing again and yet again for human beings,	29 Voilà tout ce que fait Dieu, deux fois, trois fois pour l'homme,
30 to snatch souls back from the abyss and to make the light of the living stil shine.	30 afin d'arracher son âme à la fosse et de faire briller sur lui la lumière des vivants.
31 Pay attention, Job, listen to me: keep quiet, I have more to say.	31 Sois attentif, Job, écoute-moi bien: tais-toi, j'ai encore à parler.
32 If you have anything to say, refute me, speak out, for I would gladly accept that you are upright.	32 Si tu as quelque chose à dire, réplique-moi, parle, car je veux te donner raison.
33 If not, then listen to me: keep quiet, and I wil teach you wisdom.	33 Sinon, écoute-moi: fais silence, et je t'enseignerai la sagesse.
