Job 33

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 So, Job, please listen to my words and attend to al I have to say.	1 Ora dunque, Giobbe, ascolta, ti prego, i miei ragionamenti, E porgi gli orecchi a tutte le mie parole.
2 Now as I open my mouth, and my tongue shapes words against my palate,	2 Ecco, ora io ho aperta la mia bocca, La mia lingua parla nel mio palato.
3 I shal utter words of wisdom from the heart, my lips will speak in all sincerity.	3 Le mie parole saranno secondo la dirittura del mio cuore; E le mie labbra proferiranno scienza pura.
4 God's was the spirit that made me, Shaddai's the breath that gave me life.	4 Lo Spirito di Dio mi ha fatto, E l’alito dell’Onnipotente mi ha data la vita.
5 Refute me, if you can. Prepare yourself, take up your position!	5 Se tu puoi, rispondimi; Mettiti in ordine contro a me, e presentati pure.
6 Look, I am your equal, not some god, like you I was moulded out of clay.	6 Ecco, io sono a Dio, come tu; Anch’io sono stato tratto dal fango.
7 No fear of me, therefore, need affright you, my hand wil not lie heavy over you.	7 Ecco, il mio spavento non ti sgomenterà, E la mia mano non ti sarà grave addosso
8 How could you say in my hearing -- for the sound of your words did not escape me-	8 Tu hai pur detto, udendolo io, Ed io ho intesa la voce delle parole:
9 'I am clean, and sinless, I am pure, without fault.	9 Io son puro, senza misfatto; Io son netto, e non vi è iniquità in me;
10 But he keeps inventing excuses against me and regards me as his enemy.	10 Ecco, egli trova delle occasioni contro a me; Egli mi reputa per suo nemico;
11 He puts me in the stocks, he watches my every path'?	11 Egli ha messi i miei piedi ne’ ceppi, Egli spia tutti i miei sentieri.
12 In saying so, I tel you, you are wrong: for God is greater than any human being.	12 Ecco, in questo tu non sei stato giusto; io ti risponderò; Perciocchè Iddio è vie maggiore che l’uomo.
13 Why then quarrel with him for not replying to you, word for word?	13 Perchè hai tu conteso con lui, Perchè egli non dichiara tutte le sue ragioni?
14 God speaks first in one way, and then in another, although we do not realise it.	14 Egli è ben vero, che talora Iddio parla una volta, E due, a chi non vi ha atteso.
15 In dreams and in night-visions, when slumber has settled on humanity and people are asleep in bed,	15 In sogno, in vision notturna, Quando il più profondo sonno cade in su gli uomini, Quando essi son tutti sonnacchiosi sopra i lor letti;
16 he speaks in someone's ear, frightens him with apparitions	16 Allora egli apre loro l’orecchio, E suggella il lor castigo;
17 to turn him from what he is doing and to put an end to his pride.	17 Per istorre l’uomo dalle opere sue, E per far che la superbia dell’uomo non apparisca più;
18 And thus he preserves his soul from the abyss, his life from passing down the Canal.	18 Per iscampar l’anima sua dalla fossa, E far che la sua vita non passi per la spada
19 Or again, he corrects by the sufferings of the sick-bed, when someone's bones tremble continuously	19 Ma talora altresì l’uomo è castigato con dolori sopra il suo letto, E tutte le sue ossa di grave malattia;
20 and the thought of food revolts him, however tasty it is,	20 E la sua vita gli fa abbominare il cibo, E l’anima sua la vivanda desiderabile;
21 and his flesh rots away while you watch it and the bones beneath begin to show,	21 La sua carne è consumata, talchè non apparisce più; E le sue ossa, che prima non si vedevano, spuntano fuori;
22 and his soul is drawing nearer to the abyss and his life to the dwel ing of the dead.	22 E l’anima sua si accosta alla fossa, E la vita sua a’ mali mortali.
23 Then, if there is an Angel near him, a Mediator, one in a thousand, to remind him where his duty lies,	23 Ma se allora vi è appresso di lui alcun messo, un parlatore, Uno d’infra mille, Per dichiarare all’uomo il suo dovere;
24 to take pity on him and to say, 'Spare him from going down to the abyss: I have found the ransom forhis life,'	24 Iddio gli farà grazia, e dirà: Riscuotilo, che non iscenda alla fossa; Io ho trovato il riscatto.
25 his flesh wil recover its childhood freshness, he wil return to the days of his youth.	25 La sua carne diventerà morbida, più che non è in fanciullezza; Egli ritornerà a’ dì della sua giovanezza.
26 He wil pray to God who has restored him to favour, and wil come into his presence with joy. He wiltel others how he has received saving justice	26 Egli supplicherà a Dio, ed egli gli sarà placato, E gli farà veder la sua faccia con giubilo, E renderà all’uomo la sua giustizia.
27 and sing this hymn before his companions, 'I sinned and left the path of right, but God has notpunished me as my sin deserved.	27 Ed esso poi si volgerà verso gli uomini, e dirà: Io avea peccato, ed avea pervertita la dirittura, E ciò non mi ha punto giovato.
28 He has spared my soul from going down to the abyss and is making my life see the light.'	28 Così Iddio riscoterà l’anima sua, che non passi nella fossa, E la vita sua vedrà la luce
29 All this is what God keeps doing again and yet again for human beings,	29 Ecco, Iddio opera tutte queste cose Due e tre volte inverso l’uomo;
30 to snatch souls back from the abyss and to make the light of the living stil shine.	30 Per ritrarre l’anima sua dalla fossa, Acciocchè sia illuminata della luce de’ viventi.
31 Pay attention, Job, listen to me: keep quiet, I have more to say.	31 Attendi, o Giobbe, ascoltami; Taci, ed io parlerò.
32 If you have anything to say, refute me, speak out, for I would gladly accept that you are upright.	32 Se tu hai alcuna cosa da dire, rispondimi; Parla, perciocchè io desidero giustificarti.
33 If not, then listen to me: keep quiet, and I wil teach you wisdom.	33 Se no, ascoltami tu; Taci, ed io t’insegnerò la sapienza
