Job 33

1 So, Job, please listen to my words and attend to al I have to say.	1 Ascolta adunque, o Giobbe, il mio ragionare, e pon mente a tutte le mie parole.
2 Now as I open my mouth, and my tongue shapes words against my palate,	2 Apro adesso la mia bocca, la mia lingua articola le voci sotto del mio palato.
3 I shal utter words of wisdom from the heart, my lips will speak in all sincerity.	3 I miei parlari verranno da cuore schietto, e le mie labbra proferiranno sentimenti di verità.
4 God's was the spirit that made me, Shaddai's the breath that gave me life.	4 Lo spirito di Dio mi creò, e il soffio dell'Onnipotente mi diede la vita.
5 Refute me, if you can. Prepare yourself, take up your position!	5 Rispondimi se potrai, e contraddicimi in faccia.
6 Look, I am your equal, not some god, like you I was moulded out of clay.	6 Tu vedi, che me come te fece Dio, e che io pure fui formato del medesimo fango.
7 No fear of me, therefore, need affright you, my hand wil not lie heavy over you.	7 Ma i miei prodigj non ti recheranno terrore, né ti sbalordirà la mia eloquenza.
8 How could you say in my hearing -- for the sound of your words did not escape me-	8 Tu adunque di mia sentita dicesti, e il suono di queste parole fu udito da me:
9 'I am clean, and sinless, I am pure, without fault.	9 Mondo son io, e senza reato; immacolato, e scevro di iniquità.
10 But he keeps inventing excuses against me and regards me as his enemy.	10 Perché ha trovate querele contro di me, per questo mi ha riguardata come suo nimico.
11 He puts me in the stocks, he watches my every path'?	11 Ha posti ne' ceppi i miei piedi ha osservati tutti i miei andamenti.
12 In saying so, I tel you, you are wrong: for God is greater than any human being.	12 In questo adunque tu non se' stato giusto: io ti risponderò, che Dio è più grande dell'uomo.
13 Why then quarrel with him for not replying to you, word for word?	13 Con lui tu vieni a contesa, perché egli non ha risposto a tutte le tue parole?
14 God speaks first in one way, and then in another, although we do not realise it.	14 Dio parla una volta, e la stessa cosa non ripete due volte.
15 In dreams and in night-visions, when slumber has settled on humanity and people are asleep in bed,	15 In sogno, con notturne visioni, quando gli uomini vinti dal sonno riposano ne' loro letti,
16 he speaks in someone's ear, frightens him with apparitions	16 Allora egli apre agli uomini le orecchie, e gli istruisce, e li corregge,
17 to turn him from what he is doing and to put an end to his pride.	17 Per ritrar l'uomo da quel ch'ei fa, e liberarlo dalla superbia:
18 And thus he preserves his soul from the abyss, his life from passing down the Canal.	18 Salvando l'anima di lui dalla corruzione, e la sua vita dal taglio della spada.
19 Or again, he corrects by the sufferings of the sick-bed, when someone's bones tremble continuously	19 Egli parimente lo corregge nel letto co' dolori, e fa marcir le sue ossa.
20 and the thought of food revolts him, however tasty it is,	20 In questo suo stato egli ha in orrore il pane, e il cibo una volta si grato al suo appetito.
21 and his flesh rots away while you watch it and the bones beneath begin to show,	21 La carne di lui si va consumando, e le ossa prima ascose rimangono scoperte.
22 and his soul is drawing nearer to the abyss and his life to the dwel ing of the dead.	22 Egli si avvicina alla corruzione, e la sua vita da tutti i segni di morte.
23 Then, if there is an Angel near him, a Mediator, one in a thousand, to remind him where his duty lies,	23 Se uno delle migliaia di Angeli per lui parlerà, e lo istruirà de' doveri dell'uomo,
24 to take pity on him and to say, 'Spare him from going down to the abyss: I have found the ransom forhis life,'	24 Egli avrà compassione di lui, e dirà: Salvalo dal cadere nella corru zione: ho trovato motivo onde averne pietà.
25 his flesh wil recover its childhood freshness, he wil return to the days of his youth.	25 La sua carne è stata consunta dai malori: ch'ei ritorni come ne' giorni di sua giovinezza.
26 He wil pray to God who has restored him to favour, and wil come into his presence with joy. He wiltel others how he has received saving justice	26 Egli porgerà a Dio sue preghiere; e questi con lui si placherà, è con lieta faccia lo mirerà, e renderà all'uomo la sua giustizia.
27 and sing this hymn before his companions, 'I sinned and left the path of right, but God has notpunished me as my sin deserved.	27 E rivolto agli uomini dirà egli: Io peccai, e prevaricai veramente, e non fui punito com'io meritava.
28 He has spared my soul from going down to the abyss and is making my life see the light.'	28 Egli ha liberata l'anima sua dal cader nella morte, e viverà, e goderà della luce:
29 All this is what God keeps doing again and yet again for human beings,	29 Così Dio tutte queste cose fa per tre volte con ciascheduno:
30 to snatch souls back from the abyss and to make the light of the living stil shine.	30 Per richiamare le anime loro dalla corruzione, e rischiararle colla luce de' viventi.
31 Pay attention, Job, listen to me: keep quiet, I have more to say.	31 Pon mente, o Giobbe, e ascoltami, e taci mentre io parlo.
32 If you have anything to say, refute me, speak out, for I would gladly accept that you are upright.	32 Che se qualche cosa hai da dire rispondimi, e parla; perocché io desidero, che tu comparisca giusto.
33 If not, then listen to me: keep quiet, and I wil teach you wisdom.	33 Ma se non hai nulla, ascoltami: taci, e ti insegnerò la saggezza.
