Job 33

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 So, Job, please listen to my words and attend to al I have to say.	1 Ascolta, dunque, Giobbe, le mie parole, presta orecchio a tutti i miei detti!
2 Now as I open my mouth, and my tongue shapes words against my palate,	2 Ecco, apro la mia bocca, parla la mia lingua entro il mio palato.
3 I shal utter words of wisdom from the heart, my lips will speak in all sincerity.	3 Parlo con cuore sincero; le mie labbra diranno la pura verità.
4 God's was the spirit that made me, Shaddai's the breath that gave me life.	4 Lo spirito di Dio mi ha fatto, e il soffio dell'Onnipotente mi ha dato la vita.
5 Refute me, if you can. Prepare yourself, take up your position!	5 Se puoi, rispondimi; preparati pure a resistermi.
6 Look, I am your equal, not some god, like you I was moulded out of clay.	6 Ecco, io sono tuo eguale davanti a Dio; anch'io sono stato tratto dal fango.
7 No fear of me, therefore, need affright you, my hand wil not lie heavy over you.	7 Così non avrai timore di me, né graverà su di te la mia autorità.
8 How could you say in my hearing -- for the sound of your words did not escape me-	8 Tu hai ben detto alle mie orecchie, e ho udito il suono delle tue parole:
9 'I am clean, and sinless, I am pure, without fault.	9 "Puro sono io, senza peccato, sono innocente, non ho colpa!
10 But he keeps inventing excuses against me and regards me as his enemy.	10 Eppure Dio trova pretesti contro di me, e mi considera come suo nemico;
11 He puts me in the stocks, he watches my every path'?	11 pone in ceppi i miei piedi e scruta tutti i miei passi".
12 In saying so, I tel you, you are wrong: for God is greater than any human being.	12 Ebbene, in questo non hai ragione, io ti rispondo, perché Dio è più grande dell'uomo.
13 Why then quarrel with him for not replying to you, word for word?	13 Perché gli hai intentato un processo, dato che non risponde ad ogni tua parola?
14 God speaks first in one way, and then in another, although we do not realise it.	14 Dio sa parlare in un modo o in un altro e nessuno fa attenzione:
15 In dreams and in night-visions, when slumber has settled on humanity and people are asleep in bed,	15 nel sogno, in una visione notturna, quando il torpore piomba sugli uomini, addormentati nel loro giaciglio.
16 he speaks in someone's ear, frightens him with apparitions	16 Allora egli apre l'orecchio degli uomini e vi sigilla gli avvertimenti che rivolge loro,
17 to turn him from what he is doing and to put an end to his pride.	17 per distogliere l'uomo dalle sue cattive azioni e preservare il mortale dall'orgoglio,
18 And thus he preserves his soul from the abyss, his life from passing down the Canal.	18 per impedirgli di cadere nella fossa e di passare il canale.
19 Or again, he corrects by the sufferings of the sick-bed, when someone's bones tremble continuously	19 Lo corregge pure sul suo letto con il dolore e con l'incessante tortura delle sue ossa,
20 and the thought of food revolts him, however tasty it is,	20 quando ha nausea del cibo e gli ripugna la vivanda delicata;
21 and his flesh rots away while you watch it and the bones beneath begin to show,	21 quando la sua carne si consuma a vista d'occhio e le ossa, che non si vedevano prima, spuntano fuori.
22 and his soul is drawing nearer to the abyss and his life to the dwel ing of the dead.	22 Allora la sua esistenza si avvicina alla fossa e la sua vita agli sterminatori.
23 Then, if there is an Angel near him, a Mediator, one in a thousand, to remind him where his duty lies,	23 Se c'è con lui un angelo, un solo intercessore tra mille, per annunciare all'uomo il suo dovere,
24 to take pity on him and to say, 'Spare him from going down to the abyss: I have found the ransom forhis life,'	24 che abbia compassione di lui e dica: "Preservalo dallo scendere nella fossa; ho trovato per lui il riscatto!".
25 his flesh wil recover its childhood freshness, he wil return to the days of his youth.	25 Allora la sua carne sarà più florida che in gioventù, tornerà ai giorni della sua adolescenza;
26 He wil pray to God who has restored him to favour, and wil come into his presence with joy. He wiltel others how he has received saving justice	26 invocherà Dio che gli sarà propizio, gridando di gioia vedrà la sua faccia; canterà agli uomini la propria salvezza.
27 and sing this hymn before his companions, 'I sinned and left the path of right, but God has notpunished me as my sin deserved.	27 Rivolgendosi agli uomini dirà: "Ho peccato e violato la giustizia, ma Dio non si è comportato con me come meritavo.
28 He has spared my soul from going down to the abyss and is making my life see the light.'	28 Mi ha scampato dalla fossa e la mia vita contempla la luce".
29 All this is what God keeps doing again and yet again for human beings,	29 Ecco, Dio fa tutto questo, due volte, tre volte con l'uomo,
30 to snatch souls back from the abyss and to make the light of the living stil shine.	30 per sottrarlo vivo dalla fossa e illuminarlo con la luce dei viventi.
31 Pay attention, Job, listen to me: keep quiet, I have more to say.	31 Giobbe, sta' attento, ascoltami, sta' in silenzio e io parlerò.
32 If you have anything to say, refute me, speak out, for I would gladly accept that you are upright.	32 Se hai qualcosa da dire, rispondimi; parla, perché vorrei darti ragione.
33 If not, then listen to me: keep quiet, and I wil teach you wisdom.	33 Se non ne hai, ascoltami; taci, e io ti insegnerò la sapienza".
