Exodus 14

1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	1 - Parlò ancora il Signore a Mosè, e disse:
2 'Tel the Israelites to turn back and pitch camp in front of Pi-Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea,facing Baal-Zephon. You must pitch your camp opposite this place, beside the sea,	2 «Parla ai figli di Israele. Tornino indietro e s'accampino dinanzi a Fiairot, tra Magdalum ed il mare, di fronte a Beelsefon; vi accamperete di faccia a questo, sul mare.
3 and then Pharaoh wil think, "The Israelites are wandering to and fro in the countryside; the desert hasclosed in on them."	3 Il Faraone dirà de' figli d'Israele: - Sono smarriti in quella regione, ed il deserto chiude loro la strada. -
4 I shal then make Pharaoh stubborn and he wil set out in pursuit of them; and I shall win glory formyself at the expense of Pharaoh and his whole army, and then the Egyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.' Andthe Israelites did this.	4 Indurerò il suo cuore ed egli v'inseguirà; ma io trarrò gloria dal Faraone e da tutto il suo esercito, e gli Egiziani sapranno ch' io sono il Signore». E così fecero.
5 When Pharaoh king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, he and his officials changed theirattitude towards the people. 'What have we done,' they said, 'allowing Israel to leave our service?'	5 E fu annunziato al re degli Egiziani che il popolo ebreo era fuggito. Il cuore del Faraone e dei suoi ministri si cambiò a riguardo di quel popolo, e dissero: «Che abbiamo noi fatto con lasciar andar Israele, così che più non ci serve?».
6 So Pharaoh had his chariot harnessed and set out with his troops,	6 Fece dunque attaccare il suo carro, e prese con sè tutte le sue schiere.
7 taking six hundred of the best chariots and al the other chariots in Egypt, with officers in each.	7 Prese seicento carri scelti, quanti carri potè trovare in Egitto, ed i capi di tutto l'esercito.
8 Yahweh made Pharaoh king of Egypt stubborn, and he gave chase to the Israelites. The Israelitesmarched confidently away,	8 Il Signore indurò il cuore del Faraone re dell'Egitto, che inseguì i figli d'Israele; ma essi eran partiti aiutati da una mano suprema.
9 but the Egyptians, al Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, his horsemen and his army, gave chase andcaught up with them where they lay encamped beside the sea near Pi-Hahiroth, facing Baal-Zephon.	9 Procedendo gli Egiziani sulle orme de' fuggitivi, li raggiunsero così accampati lungo il mare; tutta la cavalleria ed i carri del Faraone, e tutto il suo esercito giunsero in Fiairot di fronte a Beelsefon.
10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up -- and there were the Egyptians in pursuit of them!The Israelites were terrified and cried out to Yahweh for help.	10 Avvicinandosi il Faraone, i figli di Israele girando lo sguardo si videro gli Egiziani alle spalle; ebbero gran paura, gridarono al Signore,
11 To Moses they said, 'Was it for lack of graves in Egypt, that you had to lead us out to die in thedesert? What was the point of bringing us out of Egypt?	11 e dissero a Mosè: «Mancavan forse sepolcri in Egitto, che ci hai condotti a morire nel deserto? Che hai tu voluto fare conducendoci via dall'Egitto?
12 Did we not tell you as much in Egypt? Leave us alone, we said, we would rather work for theEgyptians! We prefer to work for the Egyptians than to die in the desert!'	12 Non è proprio questo che ti dicevamo in Egitto: - Lasciaci stare che seguiteremo a servire agli Egiziani?- Certo, era molto meglio a servire a loro, che morir nel deserto».
13 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid! Stand firm, and you wil see what Yahweh wil do torescue you today: the Egyptians you see today you wil never see again.	13 E Mosè disse al popolo: «Non abbiate paura; state fermi, e vedete le cose grandi che il Signore farà oggi; in verità, quegli Egiziani che ora vedete, non li vedrete mai più in eterno.
14 Yahweh will do the fighting for you; al you need to do is to keep calm.'	14 Il Signore combatterà per voi; e voi, tacete».
15 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Why cry out to me? Tel the Israelites to march on.	15 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Perchè gridi a me? Ordina a' figli di Israele che si mettano in cammino.
16 Your part is to raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that theIsraelites can walk through the sea on dry ground,	16 Tu, poi, leva la tua verga, stendi la tua mano sul mare, e dividilo, così che i figli d'Israele vi passino per mezzo all'asciutto.
17 while I, for my part, shal make the Egyptians so stubborn that they wil follow them, and I shall winglory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and al his army, chariots and horsemen.	17 Io indurerò il cuore degli Egiziani, così che v'inseguiranno; e trarrò gloria dal Faraone da tutto il suo esercito, da' suoi carri e da' suoi cavalieri.
18 And when I have won glory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and his chariots and horsemen, theEgyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.'	18 Ed impareranno gli Egiziani ch'io sono il Signore, quando mi sarò reso glorioso sul Faraone, sui carri e sui cavalieri di lui».
19 Then the angel of God, who preceded the army of Israel, changed station and fol owed behind them.The pil ar of cloud moved from their front and took position behind them.	19 L'angelo di Dio che precedeva le schiere di Israele, si mosse, e si mise dietro a loro; insieme con lui, la colonna di nubi lasciò del pari la prima linea, e si mise in fondo,
20 It came between the army of the Egyptians and the army of Israel. The cloud was dark, and the nightpassed without the one drawing any closer to the other the whole night long.	20 tra le schiere degli Egiziani e quelle d'Israele. Quella nube era oscura da una parte, e dall'altra illuminava la notte; così, per tutta la notte, non poterono gli Egiziani avanzarsi verso gli Israeliti.
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove the sea back with a strongeasterly wind al night and made the sea into dry land. The waters were divided	21 Avendo poi Mosè stesa la mano verso il mare, il Signore lo asciugò, facendo soffiare per tutta la notte un vento forte caldissimo, e lo ridusse all'asciutto. Le acque poi si eran divise.
22 and the Israelites went on dry ground right through the sea, with wal s of water to right and left ofthem.	22 Ed i figli di Israele entrarono in mezzo all'asciutto mare, formando l'acqua come un muro a destra ed a sinistra di loro.
23 The Egyptians gave chase, and all Pharaoh's horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea afterthem.	23 Gli Egiziani, inseguendoli entrarono in mezzo al mare dietro a loro; tutta la cavalleria del Faraone, i carri e i cavalieri di lui.
24 In the morning watch, Yahweh looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the pil ar of fire andcloud and threw the Egyptian army into confusion.	24 Già s'era alla veglia del mattino, e rivoltosi il Signore dalla colonna di nube e di fuoco verso le schiere degli Egiziani, sbaragliò il loro esercito,
25 He so clogged their chariot wheels that they drove on only with difficulty, which made the Egyptianssay, 'Let us flee from Israel, for Yahweh is fighting on their side against the Egyptians!'	25 fece incagliare le ruote dei loro carri che restavano arenate sul fondo. Dissero dunque gli Egiziani: «Salviamoci da Israele; il Signore combatte contro di noi, in loro favore».
26 Then Yahweh said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over the sea and let the waters flow back on theEgyptians and on their chariots and their horsemen.'	26 Ma il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi la mano sul mare, acciò l'acque ritornino ove sono gli Egiziani, sui loro carri e cavalieri».
27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and, as day broke, the sea returned to its bed. The fleeingEgyptians ran straight into it, and Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.	27 Avendo dunque Mosè di primo mattino, stesa la mano verso il mare, questo ritornò al suo luogo; le acque si rovesciarono sugli Egiziani che fuggivano, ed il Signore li travolse in mezzo alle onde.
28 The returning waters washed right over the chariots and horsemen of Pharaoh's entire army, whichhad fol owed the Israelites into the sea; not a single one of them was left.	28 Le acque ritornarono, e sommersero i carri ed i cavalieri di tutto l'esercito del Faraone, che per inseguire gli ebrei erano entrati nel mare; neppur uno se ne salvò.
29 The Israelites, however, had marched through the sea on dry ground, with wal s of water to right andleft of them.	29 Invece, i figli d' Israele passarono per mezzo all'asciutto mare, e le acque stavano a destra ed a sinistra di loro, come una muraglia.
30 That day, Yahweh rescued Israel from the clutches of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptianslying dead on the sea-shore.	30 In quel giorno, il Signore liberò Israele dalle mani degli Egiziani.
31 When Israel saw the mighty deed that Yahweh had performed against the Egyptians, the peoplerevered Yahweh and put their faith in Yahweh and in Moses, his servant.	31 Vedendo sulla spiaggia del mare i cadaveri degli Egiziani, e la potenza grande che il Signore aveva esercitata contro di essi, il popolo temè il Signore, e credettero al Signore ed a Mosè suo servo.
