Exodus 14

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	1 Habló Yahveh a Moisés, diciendo:
2 'Tel the Israelites to turn back and pitch camp in front of Pi-Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea,facing Baal-Zephon. You must pitch your camp opposite this place, beside the sea,	2 «Di a los israelitas que se vuelvan y acampen frente a Pi Hajirot, entre Migdol y el mar, enfrente de Baal Sefón. Frente a ese lugar acamparéis, junto al mar.
3 and then Pharaoh wil think, "The Israelites are wandering to and fro in the countryside; the desert hasclosed in on them."	3 Faraón dirá de los israelitas: “Andan errantes en el país, y el desierto les cierra el paso.”
4 I shal then make Pharaoh stubborn and he wil set out in pursuit of them; and I shall win glory formyself at the expense of Pharaoh and his whole army, and then the Egyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.' Andthe Israelites did this.	4 Yo endureceré el corazón de Faraón, y os perseguirá; pero yo manifestaré mi gloria a costa de Faraón y de todo su ejército, y sabrán los egipcios que yo soy Yahveh.» Así lo hicieron.
5 When Pharaoh king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, he and his officials changed theirattitude towards the people. 'What have we done,' they said, 'allowing Israel to leave our service?'	5 Cuando anunciaron al rey de Egipto que había huido el pueblo, se mudó el corazón de Faraón y de sus servidores respecto del pueblo, y dijeron: «¿Qué es lo que hemos hecho dejando que Israel salga de nuestro servicio?»
6 So Pharaoh had his chariot harnessed and set out with his troops,	6 Faraón hizo enganchar su carro y llevó consigo sus tropas.
7 taking six hundred of the best chariots and al the other chariots in Egypt, with officers in each.	7 Tomó seiscientos carros escogidos y todos los carros de Egipto, montados por sus combatientes.
8 Yahweh made Pharaoh king of Egypt stubborn, and he gave chase to the Israelites. The Israelitesmarched confidently away,	8 Endureció Yahveh el corazón de Faraón rey de Egipto, el cual persiguió a los israelitas, pero los israelitas salieron con la mano alzada.
9 but the Egyptians, al Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, his horsemen and his army, gave chase andcaught up with them where they lay encamped beside the sea near Pi-Hahiroth, facing Baal-Zephon.	9 Los egipcios los persiguieron: todos los caballos, los carros de Faraón, con la gente de los carros y su ejército; y les dieron alcance mientras acampaban junto al mar, cerca de Pi Hajirot, frente a Baal Sefón.
10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up -- and there were the Egyptians in pursuit of them!The Israelites were terrified and cried out to Yahweh for help.	10 Al acercarse Faraón, los israelitas alzaron sus ojos, y viendo que los egipcios marchaban tras ellos, temieron mucho los israelitas y clamaron a Yahveh.
11 To Moses they said, 'Was it for lack of graves in Egypt, that you had to lead us out to die in thedesert? What was the point of bringing us out of Egypt?	11 Y dijeron a Moisés: «¿Acaso no había sepulturas en Egipto para que nos hayas traído a morir en el desierto? ¿Qué has hecho con nosotros sacándonos de Egipto?
12 Did we not tell you as much in Egypt? Leave us alone, we said, we would rather work for theEgyptians! We prefer to work for the Egyptians than to die in the desert!'	12 ¿No te dijimos claramente en Egipto: Déjanos en paz, queremos servir a los egipcios? Porque mejor nos es servir a los egipcios que morir en el desierto.»
13 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid! Stand firm, and you wil see what Yahweh wil do torescue you today: the Egyptians you see today you wil never see again.	13 Contestó Moisés al pueblo: «No temáis; estad firmes, y veréis la salvación que Yahveh os otorgará en este día, pues los egipcios que ahora veis, no los volveréis a ver nunca jamás.
14 Yahweh will do the fighting for you; al you need to do is to keep calm.'	14 Yahveh peleará por vosotros, que vosotros no tendréis que preocuparos.»
15 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Why cry out to me? Tel the Israelites to march on.	15 Dijo Yahveh a Moisés: «¿Por qué sigues clamando a mí? Di a los israelitas que se pongan en marcha.
16 Your part is to raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that theIsraelites can walk through the sea on dry ground,	16 Y tú, alza tu cayado, extiende tu mano sobre el mar y divídelo, para que los israelitas entren en medio del mar a pie enjuto.
17 while I, for my part, shal make the Egyptians so stubborn that they wil follow them, and I shall winglory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and al his army, chariots and horsemen.	17 Que yo voy a endurecer el corazón de los egipcios para que los persigan, y me cubriré de gloria a costa de Faraón y de todo su ejército, de sus carros y de los guerreros de los carros.
18 And when I have won glory for myself at the expense of Pharaoh and his chariots and horsemen, theEgyptians wil know that I am Yahweh.'	18 Sabrán los egipcios que yo soy Yahveh, cuando me haya cubierto de gloria a costa de Faraón, de sus carros y de sus jinetes.
19 Then the angel of God, who preceded the army of Israel, changed station and fol owed behind them.The pil ar of cloud moved from their front and took position behind them.	19 Se puso en marcha el Ángel de Yahveh que iba al frente del ejército de Israel, y pasó a retaguardia. También la columna de nube de delante se desplazó de allí y se colocó detrás,
20 It came between the army of the Egyptians and the army of Israel. The cloud was dark, and the nightpassed without the one drawing any closer to the other the whole night long.	20 poniéndose entre el campamento de los egipcios y el campamento de los israelitas. La nube era tenebrosa y transcurrió la noche sin que pudieran trabar contacto unos con otros en toda la noche.
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove the sea back with a strongeasterly wind al night and made the sea into dry land. The waters were divided	21 Moisés extendió su mano sobre el mar, y Yahveh hizo soplar durante toda la noche un fuerte viento del Este que secó el mar, y se dividieron las aguas.
22 and the Israelites went on dry ground right through the sea, with wal s of water to right and left ofthem.	22 Los israelitas entraron en medio del mar a pie enjuto, mientras que las aguas formaban muralla a derecha e izquierda.
23 The Egyptians gave chase, and all Pharaoh's horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea afterthem.	23 Los egipcios se lanzaron en su persecución, entrando tras ellos, en medio del mar, todos los caballos de Faraón, y los carros con sus guerreros.
24 In the morning watch, Yahweh looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the pil ar of fire andcloud and threw the Egyptian army into confusion.	24 Llegada la vigilia matutina, miró Yahveh desde la columna de fuego y humo hacia el ejército de los egipcios, y sembró la confusión en el ejército egipcio.
25 He so clogged their chariot wheels that they drove on only with difficulty, which made the Egyptianssay, 'Let us flee from Israel, for Yahweh is fighting on their side against the Egyptians!'	25 Trastornó la ruedas de sus carros, que no podían avanzar sino con gran dificultad. Y exclamaron los egipcios: «Huyamos ante Israel, porque Yahveh pelea por ellos contra los egipcios.»
26 Then Yahweh said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over the sea and let the waters flow back on theEgyptians and on their chariots and their horsemen.'	26 Yahveh dijo a Moisés: Extiende tu mano sobre el mar, y las aguas volverán sobre los egipcios, sobre sus carros y sobre los guerreros de los carros.»
27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and, as day broke, the sea returned to its bed. The fleeingEgyptians ran straight into it, and Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.	27 Extendió Moisés su mano sobre el mar, y al rayar el alba volvió el mar a su lecho; de modo que los egipcios, al querer huir, se vieron frente a las aguas. Así precipitó Yahveh a los egipcios en medio del mar,
28 The returning waters washed right over the chariots and horsemen of Pharaoh's entire army, whichhad fol owed the Israelites into the sea; not a single one of them was left.	28 pues al retroceder las aguas cubrieron los carros y a su gente, a todo el ejército de Faraón, que había entrado en el mar para perseguirlos; no escapó ni uno siquiera.
29 The Israelites, however, had marched through the sea on dry ground, with wal s of water to right andleft of them.	29 Mas los israelitas pasaron a pie enjuto por en medio del mar, mientras las aguas hacían muralla a derecha e izquierda.
30 That day, Yahweh rescued Israel from the clutches of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptianslying dead on the sea-shore.	30 Aquel día salvó Yahveh a Israel del poder de los egipcios; e Israel vio a los egipcios muertos a orillas del mar.
31 When Israel saw the mighty deed that Yahweh had performed against the Egyptians, the peoplerevered Yahweh and put their faith in Yahweh and in Moses, his servant.	31 Y viendo Israel la mano fuerte que Yahveh había desplegado contra los egipcios, temió el pueblo a Yahveh, y creyeron en Yahveh y en Moisés, su siervo.
