Exodus 12

1 Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt,	1 Dixit Dominus ad Moysen et Aaron in terra Aegypti:
2 'This month must be the first of al the months for you, the first month of your year.	2 “ Mensis iste vobis principium mensium, primus erit in mensibus anni.
3 Speak to the whole community of Israel and say, "On the tenth day of this month each man must takean animal from the flock for his family: one animal for each household.	3 Loquimini ad universum coetum filiorum Israel et dicite eis: Decima die mensis huius tollat unusquisque agnum per familias et domos suas.
4 If the household is too smal for the animal, he must join with his neighbour nearest to his house,depending on the number of persons. When you choose the animal, you wil take into account what each caneat.	4 Sin autem minor est numerus, ut sufficere possit ad vescendum agnum, assumet vicinum suum, qui iunctus est domui suae, iuxta numerum animarum, quae sufficere possunt ad esum agni.
5 It must be an animal without blemish, a male one year old; you may choose it either from the sheep orfrom the goats.	5 Erit autem vobis agnus absque macula, masculus, anniculus; quem de agnis vel haedis tolletis
6 You must keep it til the fourteenth day of the month when the whole assembly of the community ofIsrael wil slaughter it at twilight.	6 et servabitis eum usque ad quartam decimam diem mensis huius; immolabitque eum universa congregatio filiorum Israel ad vesperam.
7 Some of the blood must then be taken and put on both door-posts and the lintel of the houses where itis eaten.	7 Et sument de sanguine eius ac ponent super utrumque postem et in superliminaribus domorum, in quibus comedent illum;
8 That night, the flesh must be eaten, roasted over the fire; it must be eaten with unleavened bread andbitter herbs.	8 et edent carnes nocte illa assas igni et azymos panes cum lactucis amaris.
9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over the fire, with the head, feet and entrails.	9 Non comedetis ex eo crudum quid nec coctum aqua, sed tantum assum igni; caput cum pedibus eius et intestinis vorabitis.
10 You must not leave any of it over till the morning: whatever is left till morning you must burn.	10 Nec remanebit quidquam ex eo usque mane; si quid residuum fuerit, igne comburetis.
11 This is how you must eat it: with a belt round your waist, your sandals on your feet and your staff inyour hand. You must eat it hurriedly: it is a Passover in Yahweh's honour.	11 Sic autem comedetis illum: renes vestros accingetis, calceamenta habebitis in pedibus, tenentes baculos in manibus, et comedetis festinanter; est enim Pascha (id est Transitus) Domini!
12 That night, I shal go through Egypt and strike down all the first-born in Egypt, man and beast alike,and shal execute justice on al the gods of Egypt, I, Yahweh!	12 Et transibo per terram Aegypti nocte illa percutiamque omne primogenitum in terra Aegypti ab homine usque ad pecus; et in cunctis diis Aegypti faciam iudicia, ego Dominus.
13 The blood wil be a sign for you on the houses where you are. When I see the blood I shall pass overyou, and you wil escape the destructive plague when I strike Egypt.	13 Erit autem sanguis vobis in signum in aedibus, in quibus eritis; et videbo sanguinem et transibo vos, nec erit in vobis plaga disperdens, quando percussero terram Aegypti.
14 This day must be commemorated by you, and you must keep it as a feast in Yahweh's honour. Youmust keep it as a feast-day for al generations; this is a decree for al time.	14 Habebitis autem hanc diem in monumentum et celebrabitis eam sollemnem Domino in generationibus vestris cultu sempiterno.
15 "For seven days you must eat unleavened bread. On the first day you must clean the leaven out ofyour houses, for anyone who eats leavened bread from the first to the seventh day must be outlawed from Israel.	15 Septem diebus azyma comedetis. Iam in die primo non erit fermentum in domibus vestris; quicumque comederit fermentatum, a primo die usque ad diem septimum, peribit anima illa de Israel.
16 On the first day you must hold a sacred assembly, and on the seventh day a sacred assembly. Onthose days no work may be done; you wil prepare only what each requires to eat.	16 Dies prima erit sancta atque sollemnis, et dies septima eadem festivitate venerabilis. Nihil operis facietis in eis, exceptis his, quae ad vescendum pertinent.
17 You must keep the feast of Unleavened Bread because it was on that same day that I brought yourarmies out of Egypt. You wil keep that day, generation after generation; this is a decree for al time.	17 Et observabitis azyma, in eadem enim ipsa die eduxi exercitum vestrum de terra Aegypti; et custodietis diem istum in generationes vestras ritu perpetuo.
18 In the first month, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day, youmust eat unleavened bread.	18 Primo mense, quarta decima die mensis ad vesperam comedetis azyma; usque ad diem vicesimam primam eiusdem mensis ad vesperam.
19 For seven days there may be no leaven in your houses, since anyone, either stranger or citizen ofthe country, who eats leavened bread wil be outlawed from the community of Israel.	19 Septem diebus fermentum non invenietur in domibus vestris. Qui comederit fermentatum, peribit anima eius de coetu Israel, tam de advenis quam de indigenis terrae.
20 You wil eat nothing with leaven in it; wherever you live, you will eat unleavened bread." '	20 Omne fermentatum non comedetis; in cunctis habitaculis vestris edetis azyma ”.
21 Moses summoned al the elders of Israel and said to them, 'Go and choose a lamb or kid for yourfamilies, and kil the Passover victim.	21 Vocavit autem Moyses omnes seniores filiorum Israel et dixit ad eos: “ Ite tollentes animal per familias vestras et immolate Pascha.
22 Then take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and with the blood from the basintouch the lintel and both door-posts; then let none of you venture out of the house til morning.	22 Fasciculumque hyssopi tingite in sanguine, qui est in pelvi, et aspergite ex eo superliminare et utrumque postem. Nullus vestrum egrediatur ostium domus suae usque mane.
23 Then, when Yahweh goes through Egypt to strike it, and sees the blood on the lintel and on bothdoor-posts, he wil pass over the door and not al ow the Destroyer to enter your homes and strike.	23 Transibit enim Dominus percutiens Aegyptios; cumque viderit sanguinem in superliminari et in utroque poste, transcendet ostium et non sinet percussorem ingredi domos vestras et laedere.
24 You wil observe this as a decree binding you and your children for al time,	24 Custodite verbum istud legitimum tibi et filiis tuis usque in aeternum.
25 and when you have entered the country which Yahweh will give you, as he has promised, you wilobserve this ritual.	25 Cumque introieritis terram, quam Dominus daturus est vobis, ut pollicitus est, observabitis caeremonias istas;
26 And when your children ask you, "What does this ritual mean?"	26 et, cum dixerint vobis filii vestri: "Quae est ista religio?",
27 you will tel them, "It is the Passover sacrifice in honour of Yahweh who passed over the houses ofthe Israelites in Egypt, and struck Egypt but spared our houses." ' And the people bowed in worship.	27 dicetis eis: "Victima Paschae Domino est, quando transivit super domos filiorum Israel in Aegypto percutiens Aegyptios et domos nostras liberans" ”. Incurvatusque populus adoravit;
28 The Israelites then went away and did as Yahweh had ordered Moses and Aaron.	28 et egressi filii Israel fecerunt, sicut praeceperat Dominus Moysi et Aaron.
29 And at midnight Yahweh struck down al the first-born in Egypt from the first-born of Pharaoh, heir tohis throne, to the first-born of the prisoner in the dungeon, and the first-born of all the livestock.	29 Factum est autem in noctis medio, percussit Dominus omne primogenitum in terra Aegypti, a primogenito pharaonis, qui in solio eius sedebat, usque ad primogenitum captivi, qui erat in carcere, et omne primogenitum iumentorum.
30 Pharaoh and al his officials and al the Egyptians got up in the night, and there was great wailing inEgypt, for there was not a house without its dead.	30 Surrexitque pharao nocte et omnes servi eius cunctaque Aegyptus, et ortus est clamor magnus in Aegypto, neque enim erat domus, in qua non iaceret mortuus.
31 It was stil dark when Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, 'Up, leave my subjects, youand the Israelites! Go and worship Yahweh as you have asked!	31 Vocatisque pharao Moyse et Aaron nocte, ait: “ Surgite, egredimini a populo meo, vos et filii Israel; ite, immolate Domino, sicut dicitis.
32 And take your flocks and herds as you have asked, and go! And bless me too!'	32 Oves vestras et armenta assumite, ut petieratis, et abeuntes benedicite mihi ”.
33 The Egyptians urged the people on and hurried them out of the country because, they said,'Otherwise we shal al be dead.'	33 Urgebantque Aegyptii populum de terra exire velociter dicentes: “ Omnes moriemur ”.
34 So the people carried off their dough stil unleavened, their bowls wrapped in their cloaks, on theirshoulders.	34 Tulit igitur populus conspersam farinam, antequam fermentaretur; et ligans pistrina in palliis suis posuit super umeros suos.
35 The Israelites did as Moses had told them and asked the Egyptians for silver and golden jewel ery,and clothing.	35 Feceruntque filii Israel, sicut praeceperat Moyses, et petierunt ab Aegyptiis vasa argentea et aurea vestemque plurimam.
36 Yahweh made the Egyptians so much impressed with the people that they gave them what theyasked. So they despoiled the Egyptians.	36 Dominus autem dedit gratiam populo coram Aegyptiis, ut commodarent eis; et spoliaverunt Aegyptios.
37 The Israelites left Rameses for Succoth, about six hundred thousand on the march-men, that is, notcounting their families.	37 Profectique sunt filii Israel de Ramesse in Succoth, sescenta fere milia peditum virorum absque parvulis.
38 A mixed crowd of people went with them, and flocks and herds, quantities of livestock.	38 Sed et vulgus promiscuum innumerabile ascendit cum eis, oves et armenta, animantia multa nimis.
39 And with the dough which they had brought from Egypt they baked unleavened cakes, because thedough had not risen, since they had been driven out of Egypt without time to linger or to prepare food forthemselves.	39 Coxeruntque farinam, quam dudum de Aegypto conspersam tulerant, et fecerunt subcinericios panes azymos; neque enim poterant fermentari, cogentibus exire Aegyptiis et nullam facere sinentibus moram; nec pulmenti quidquam occurrerant praeparare.
40 The time that the Israelites spent in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.	40 Habitatio autem filiorum Israel, qua manserant in Aegypto, fuit quadringentorum triginta annorum.
41 And on the very day the four hundred and thirty years ended, al Yahweh's armies left Egypt.	41 Quibus expletis, eadem die egressus est omnis exercitus Domini de terra Aegypti.
42 The night when Yahweh kept vigil to bring them out of Egypt must be kept as a vigil in honour ofYahweh by al Israelites, for al generations.	42 Nox ista vigiliarum Domino, quando eduxit eos de terra Aegypti: hanc observare debent Domino omnes filii Israel in generationibus suis.
43 Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, 'This is the ritual for the Passover: no alien may eat it,	43 Dixitque Dominus ad Moysen et Aaron: “ Haec est religio Paschae: Omnis alienigena non comedet ex eo;
44 but any slave bought for money may eat it, once you have circumcised him.	44 omnis autem servus empticius circumcidetur et sic comedet;
45 No stranger and no hired servant may eat it.	45 advena et mercennarius non edent ex eo.
46 It must be eaten in one house alone; you wil not take any of the meat out of the house; nor may youbreak any of its bones.	46 In una domo comedetur, nec efferetis de carnibus eius foras nec os illius confringetis.
47 'The whole community of Israel must keep it.	47 Omnis coetus filiorum Israel faciet illud.
48 Should a stranger residing with you wish to keep the Passover in honour of Yahweh, al the males ofhis household must be circumcised: he wil then be al owed to keep it and wil count as a citizen of the country.But no uncircumcised person may eat it.	48 Quod si quis peregrinorum in vestram voluerit transire coloniam et facere Pascha Domini, circumcidetur prius omne masculinum eius, et tunc rite celebrabit eritque sicut indigena terrae; si quis autem circumcisus non fuerit, non vescetur ex eo.
49 The same law will apply to the citizen and the stranger resident among you.'	49 Eadem lex erit indigenae et colono, qui peregrinatur apud vos ”.
50 The Israelites all did as Yahweh had ordered Moses and Aaron,	50 Feceruntque omnes filii Israel, sicut praeceperat Dominus Moysi et Aaron;
51 and that same day Yahweh brought the Israelites out of Egypt in their armies.	51 et in eadem die eduxit Dominus filios Israel de terra Aegypti per turmas suas.
