Exodus 12

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt,	1 Yahvé dit à Moïse et à Aaron au pays d'Egypte:
2 'This month must be the first of al the months for you, the first month of your year.	2 "Ce mois sera pour vous en tête des autres mois, il sera pour vous le premier mois de l'année.
3 Speak to the whole community of Israel and say, "On the tenth day of this month each man must takean animal from the flock for his family: one animal for each household.	3 Parlez à toute la communauté d'Israël et dites-lui: Le dix de ce mois, que chacun prenne une tête depetit bétail par famille, une tête de petit bétail par maison.
4 If the household is too smal for the animal, he must join with his neighbour nearest to his house,depending on the number of persons. When you choose the animal, you wil take into account what each caneat.	4 Si la maison est trop peu nombreuse pour une tête de petit bétail, on s'associera avec son voisin leplus proche de la maison, selon le nombre des personnes. Vous choisirez la tête de petit bétail selon ce quechacun peut manger.
5 It must be an animal without blemish, a male one year old; you may choose it either from the sheep orfrom the goats.	5 La tête de petit bétail sera un mâle sans tare, âgé d'un an. Vous la choisirez parmi les moutons ou leschèvres.
6 You must keep it til the fourteenth day of the month when the whole assembly of the community ofIsrael wil slaughter it at twilight.	6 Vous la garderez jusqu'au quatorzième jour de ce mois, et toute l'assemblée de la communautéd'Israël l'égorgera au crépuscule.
7 Some of the blood must then be taken and put on both door-posts and the lintel of the houses where itis eaten.	7 On prendra de son sang et on en mettra sur les deux montants et le linteau des maisons où on lemangera.
8 That night, the flesh must be eaten, roasted over the fire; it must be eaten with unleavened bread andbitter herbs.	8 Cette nuit-là, on mangera la chair rôtie au feu; on la mangera avec des azymes et des herbes amères.
9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over the fire, with the head, feet and entrails.	9 N'en mangez rien cru ni bouilli dans l'eau, mais rôti au feu, avec la tête, les pattes et les tripes.
10 You must not leave any of it over till the morning: whatever is left till morning you must burn.	10 Vous n'en réserverez rien jusqu'au lendemain. Ce qui en resterait le lendemain, vous le brûlerez aufeu.
11 This is how you must eat it: with a belt round your waist, your sandals on your feet and your staff inyour hand. You must eat it hurriedly: it is a Passover in Yahweh's honour.	11 C'est ainsi que vous la mangerez: vos reins ceints, vos sandales aux pieds et votre bâton en main.Vous la mangerez en toute hâte, c'est une pâque pour Yahvé.
12 That night, I shal go through Egypt and strike down all the first-born in Egypt, man and beast alike,and shal execute justice on al the gods of Egypt, I, Yahweh!	12 Cette nuit-là je parcourrai l'Egypte et je frapperai tous les premiers-nés dans le pays d'Egypte, tanthommes que bêtes, et de tous les dieux d'Egypte, je ferai justice, moi Yahvé.
13 The blood wil be a sign for you on the houses where you are. When I see the blood I shall pass overyou, and you wil escape the destructive plague when I strike Egypt.	13 Le sang sera pour vous un signe sur les maisons où vous vous tenez. En voyant ce signe, jepasserai outre et vous échapperez au fléau destructeur lorsque je frapperai le pays d'Egypte.
14 This day must be commemorated by you, and you must keep it as a feast in Yahweh's honour. Youmust keep it as a feast-day for al generations; this is a decree for al time.	14 Ce jour-là, vous en ferez mémoire et vous le fêterez comme une fête pour Yahvé, dans vosgénérations vous la fêterez, c'est un décret perpétuel.
15 "For seven days you must eat unleavened bread. On the first day you must clean the leaven out ofyour houses, for anyone who eats leavened bread from the first to the seventh day must be outlawed from Israel.	15 "Pendant sept jours, vous mangerez des azymes. Dès le premier jour vous ferez disparaître lelevain de vos maisons car quiconque, du premier au septième jour, mangera du pain levé, celui-là sera retranchéd'Israël.
16 On the first day you must hold a sacred assembly, and on the seventh day a sacred assembly. Onthose days no work may be done; you wil prepare only what each requires to eat.	16 Le premier jour vous aurez une sainte assemblée, et le septième jour, une sainte assemblée. On n'yfera aucun ouvrage, vous préparerez seulement ce que chacun doit manger.
17 You must keep the feast of Unleavened Bread because it was on that same day that I brought yourarmies out of Egypt. You wil keep that day, generation after generation; this is a decree for al time.	17 Vous observerez la fête des Azymes, car c'est en ce jour-là que j'ai fait sortir vos armées du paysd'Egypte. Vous observerez ce jour-là dans vos générations, c'est un décret perpétuel.
18 In the first month, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day, youmust eat unleavened bread.	18 Le premier mois, le soir du quatorzième jour, vous mangerez des azymes jusqu'au soir du vingt etunième jour.
19 For seven days there may be no leaven in your houses, since anyone, either stranger or citizen ofthe country, who eats leavened bread wil be outlawed from the community of Israel.	19 Pendant sept jours il ne se trouvera pas de levain dans vos maisons, car quiconque mangera dupain levé sera retranché de la communauté d'Israël, qu'il soit étranger ou né dans le pays.
20 You wil eat nothing with leaven in it; wherever you live, you will eat unleavened bread." '	20 Vous ne mangerez pas de pain levé, en tout lieu où vous habiterez vous mangerez des azymes."
21 Moses summoned al the elders of Israel and said to them, 'Go and choose a lamb or kid for yourfamilies, and kil the Passover victim.	21 Moïse convoqua tous les anciens d'Israël et leur dit: "Allez vous procurer du petit bétail pour vosfamilles et immolez la pâque.
22 Then take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and with the blood from the basintouch the lintel and both door-posts; then let none of you venture out of the house til morning.	22 Puis vous prendrez un bouquet d'hysope, vous le tremperez dans le sang qui est dans le bassin etvous toucherez le linteau et les deux montants avec le sang qui est dans le bassin. Quant à vous, que personne nefranchisse la porte de sa maison jusqu'au matin.
23 Then, when Yahweh goes through Egypt to strike it, and sees the blood on the lintel and on bothdoor-posts, he wil pass over the door and not al ow the Destroyer to enter your homes and strike.	23 Lorsque Yahvé traversera l'Egypte pour la frapper, il verra le sang sur le linteau et sur les deuxmontants, il passera au-delà de cette porte et ne laissera pas l'Exterminateur pénétrer dans vos maisons pourfrapper.
24 You wil observe this as a decree binding you and your children for al time,	24 Vous observerez cette disposition comme un décret pour toi et tes fils, à perpétuité.
25 and when you have entered the country which Yahweh will give you, as he has promised, you wilobserve this ritual.	25 Quand vous serez entrés dans la terre que Yahvé vous donnera comme il l'a dit, vous observerez cerite.
26 And when your children ask you, "What does this ritual mean?"	26 Et quand vos fils vous diront: Que signifie pour vous ce rite?
27 you will tel them, "It is the Passover sacrifice in honour of Yahweh who passed over the houses ofthe Israelites in Egypt, and struck Egypt but spared our houses." ' And the people bowed in worship.	27 Vous leur direz: C'est le sacrifice de la Pâque pour Yahvé qui a passé au-delà des maisons desIsraélites en Egypte, lorsqu'il frappait l'Egypte, mais épargnait nos maisons." Le peuple alors s'agenouilla et seprosterna.
28 The Israelites then went away and did as Yahweh had ordered Moses and Aaron.	28 Les Israélites s'en allèrent et firent ce que Yahvé avait ordonné à Moïse et à Aaron.
29 And at midnight Yahweh struck down al the first-born in Egypt from the first-born of Pharaoh, heir tohis throne, to the first-born of the prisoner in the dungeon, and the first-born of all the livestock.	29 Au milieu de la nuit, Yahvé frappa tous les premiers-nés dans le pays d'Egypte, aussi bien lepremier-né de Pharaon qui devait s'asseoir sur son trône, que le premier-né du captif dans la prison et tous lespremiers-nés du bétail.
30 Pharaoh and al his officials and al the Egyptians got up in the night, and there was great wailing inEgypt, for there was not a house without its dead.	30 Pharaon se leva pendant la nuit, ainsi que tous ses serviteurs et tous les Egyptiens, et ce fut enEgypte une grande clameur car il n'y avait pas de maison où il n'y eût un mort.
31 It was stil dark when Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, 'Up, leave my subjects, youand the Israelites! Go and worship Yahweh as you have asked!	31 Pharaon appela Moïse et Aaron pendant la nuit et leur dit: "Levez-vous et sortez du milieu de monpeuple, vous et les Israélites, et allez servir Yahvé comme vous l'avez demandé.
32 And take your flocks and herds as you have asked, and go! And bless me too!'	32 Prenez aussi votre petit et votre gros bétail comme vous l'avez demandé, partez et bénissez-moi,moi aussi."
33 The Egyptians urged the people on and hurried them out of the country because, they said,'Otherwise we shal al be dead.'	33 Les Egyptiens pressèrent le peuple en se hâtant de le faire partir du pays car, disaient-ils: "Nousallons tous mourir."
34 So the people carried off their dough stil unleavened, their bowls wrapped in their cloaks, on theirshoulders.	34 Le peuple emporta sa pâte avant qu'elle n'eût levé, ses huches serrées dans les manteaux, sur lesépaules.
35 The Israelites did as Moses had told them and asked the Egyptians for silver and golden jewel ery,and clothing.	35 Les Israélites firent ce qu'avait dit Moïse et demandèrent aux Egyptiens des objets d'argent, desobjets d'or et des vêtements.
36 Yahweh made the Egyptians so much impressed with the people that they gave them what theyasked. So they despoiled the Egyptians.	36 Yahvé fit que le peuple trouvât grâce aux yeux des Egyptiens qui les leur prêtèrent. Ilsdépouillèrent ainsi les Egyptiens.
37 The Israelites left Rameses for Succoth, about six hundred thousand on the march-men, that is, notcounting their families.	37 Les Israélites partirent de Ramsès en direction de Sukkot au nombre de près de 600.000 hommesde pied -- rien que les hommes, sans compter leur famille.
38 A mixed crowd of people went with them, and flocks and herds, quantities of livestock.	38 Une foule mêlée monta avec eux, ainsi que du petit et du gros bétail, formant d'immensestroupeaux.
39 And with the dough which they had brought from Egypt they baked unleavened cakes, because thedough had not risen, since they had been driven out of Egypt without time to linger or to prepare food forthemselves.	39 Ils firent cuire la pâte qu'ils avaient emportée d'Egypte en galettes non levées, car la pâte n'était paslevée: chassés d'Egypte, ils n'avaient pu s'attarder ni se préparer des provisions de route.
40 The time that the Israelites spent in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.	40 Le séjour des Israélites en Egypte avait duré 430 ans.
41 And on the very day the four hundred and thirty years ended, al Yahweh's armies left Egypt.	41 Le jour même où prenait fin les 430 ans, toutes les armées de Yahvé sortirent du pays d'Egypte.
42 The night when Yahweh kept vigil to bring them out of Egypt must be kept as a vigil in honour ofYahweh by al Israelites, for al generations.	42 Cette nuit durant laquelle Yahvé a veillé pour les faire sortir d'Egypte doit être pour tous lesIsraélites une veille pour Yahvé, pour leurs générations.
43 Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, 'This is the ritual for the Passover: no alien may eat it,	43 Yahvé dit à Moïse et à Aaron: "Voici le rituel de la pâque: aucun étranger n'en mangera.
44 but any slave bought for money may eat it, once you have circumcised him.	44 Mais tout esclave acquis à prix d'argent, quand tu l'auras circoncis, pourra en manger.
45 No stranger and no hired servant may eat it.	45 Le résident et le serviteur à gages n'en mangeront pas.
46 It must be eaten in one house alone; you wil not take any of the meat out of the house; nor may youbreak any of its bones.	46 On la mangera dans une seule maison et vous ne ferez sortir de cette maison aucun morceau deviande. Vous n'en briserez aucun os.
47 'The whole community of Israel must keep it.	47 Toute la communauté d'Israël la fera.
48 Should a stranger residing with you wish to keep the Passover in honour of Yahweh, al the males ofhis household must be circumcised: he wil then be al owed to keep it and wil count as a citizen of the country.But no uncircumcised person may eat it.	48 Si un étranger en résidence chez toi veut faire la Pâque pour Yahvé, tous les mâles de sa maisondevront être circoncis; il sera alors admis à la faire, il sera comme un citoyen du pays; mais aucun incirconcis nepourra en manger.
49 The same law will apply to the citizen and the stranger resident among you.'	49 La loi sera la même pour le citoyen et pour l'étranger en résidence parmi vous."
50 The Israelites all did as Yahweh had ordered Moses and Aaron,	50 Tous les Israélites firent comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné à Moïse et à Aaron.
51 and that same day Yahweh brought the Israelites out of Egypt in their armies.	51 Ce jour-là même, Yahvé fit sortir les Israélites du pays d'Egypte, selon leurs armées.
