Exodus 12

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt,	1 Luego el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón en la tierra de Egipto:
2 'This month must be the first of al the months for you, the first month of your year.	2 Este mes será para ustedes el mes inicial, el primero de los meses del año.
3 Speak to the whole community of Israel and say, "On the tenth day of this month each man must takean animal from the flock for his family: one animal for each household.	3 Digan a toda la comunidad de Israel: El diez de este mes, consíganse cada uno un animal del ganado menor, uno para cada familia.
4 If the household is too smal for the animal, he must join with his neighbour nearest to his house,depending on the number of persons. When you choose the animal, you wil take into account what each caneat.	4 Si la familia es demasiado reducida para consumir un animal entero, se unirá con la del vecino que viva más cerca de su casa. En la elección del animal tengan en cuenta, además del número de comensales, lo que cada uno come habitualmente.
5 It must be an animal without blemish, a male one year old; you may choose it either from the sheep orfrom the goats.	5 Elijan un animal sin ningún defecto, macho y de un año; podrá ser cordero o cabrito.
6 You must keep it til the fourteenth day of the month when the whole assembly of the community ofIsrael wil slaughter it at twilight.	6 Deberán guardarlo hasta el catorce de este mes, y a la hora del crepúsculo, lo inmolará toda la asamblea de la comunidad de Israel.
7 Some of the blood must then be taken and put on both door-posts and the lintel of the houses where itis eaten.	7 Después tomarán un poco de su sangre, y marcarán con ella los dos postes y el dintel de la puerta de las casas donde lo coman.
8 That night, the flesh must be eaten, roasted over the fire; it must be eaten with unleavened bread andbitter herbs.	8 Y esa misma noche comerán la carne asada al fuego, con panes sin levadura y verduras amargas.
9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over the fire, with the head, feet and entrails.	9 No la comerán cruda ni hervida, sino asada al fuego; comerán también la cabeza, las patas y las entrañas.
10 You must not leave any of it over till the morning: whatever is left till morning you must burn.	10 No dejarán nada para la mañana siguiente, y lo que sobre, lo quemarán al amanecer.
11 This is how you must eat it: with a belt round your waist, your sandals on your feet and your staff inyour hand. You must eat it hurriedly: it is a Passover in Yahweh's honour.	11 Deberán comerlo así: ceñidos con un cinturón, calzados con sandalias y con el bastón en la mano. Y lo comerán rápidamente: es la Pascua del Señor.
12 That night, I shal go through Egypt and strike down all the first-born in Egypt, man and beast alike,and shal execute justice on al the gods of Egypt, I, Yahweh!	12 Esa noche yo pasaré por el país de Egipto para exterminar a todos sus primogénitos, tanto hombres como animales, y daré un justo escarmiento a los dioses de Egipto. Yo soy el Señor.
13 The blood wil be a sign for you on the houses where you are. When I see the blood I shall pass overyou, and you wil escape the destructive plague when I strike Egypt.	13 La sangre les servirá de señal para indicar las casas donde ustedes estén. Al verla, yo pasaré de largo, y así ustedes se libarán del golpe del Exterminador, cuando yo castigue al país de Egipto.
14 This day must be commemorated by you, and you must keep it as a feast in Yahweh's honour. Youmust keep it as a feast-day for al generations; this is a decree for al time.	14 Este será para ustedes un día memorable y deberán solemnizarlo con una fiesta en honor del Señor. Lo celebrarán a lo largo de las generaciones como una institución perpetua.
15 "For seven days you must eat unleavened bread. On the first day you must clean the leaven out ofyour houses, for anyone who eats leavened bread from the first to the seventh day must be outlawed from Israel.	15 Durante siete días ustedes comerán panes sin levadura. A partir del primer día, harán desaparecer la levadura de sus casas, porque todo el que coma pan fermentado, desde el primer día hasta el séptimo, será excluido de Israel.
16 On the first day you must hold a sacred assembly, and on the seventh day a sacred assembly. Onthose days no work may be done; you wil prepare only what each requires to eat.	16 El primer día celebrarán una asamblea litúrgica, y harán lo mismo el séptimo día. En todo este tiempo no estará permitido realizar ningún trabajo, exceptuando únicamente el que sea indispensable para preparar la comida.
17 You must keep the feast of Unleavened Bread because it was on that same day that I brought yourarmies out of Egypt. You wil keep that day, generation after generation; this is a decree for al time.	17 Ustedes celebrarán la fiesta de los Acimos, porque ese día hice salir de Egipto a los ejércitos de Israel. Observarán este día a lo largo de las generaciones como una institución perpetua.
18 In the first month, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day, youmust eat unleavened bread.	18 En el transcurso del primer mes, desde el atardecer del día catorce hasta el atardecer del día veintiuno, comerán el pan sin levadura.
19 For seven days there may be no leaven in your houses, since anyone, either stranger or citizen ofthe country, who eats leavened bread wil be outlawed from the community of Israel.	19 Durante esos siete días, no habrá levadura en sus casas, porque todo el que coma algo fermentado, sea extranjero o natural del país, será excluido de la comunidad de Israel.
20 You wil eat nothing with leaven in it; wherever you live, you will eat unleavened bread." '	20 En una palabra, no podrán comer nada fermentado; cualquiera sea el lugar donde habiten, comerán panes ácimos.
21 Moses summoned al the elders of Israel and said to them, 'Go and choose a lamb or kid for yourfamilies, and kil the Passover victim.	21 Moisés convocó a todos los ancianos de Israel y les dijo: «Vayan a buscar un animal del ganado menor para cada familia e inmolen la víctima pascual.
22 Then take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and with the blood from the basintouch the lintel and both door-posts; then let none of you venture out of the house til morning.	22 Luego tomen un manojo de plantas de hisopo, mójenlo en la sangre recogida en un recipiente, y marquen con la sangre el dintel y los dos postes de las puertas; y que ninguno de ustedes salga de su casa hasta la mañana siguiente.
23 Then, when Yahweh goes through Egypt to strike it, and sees the blood on the lintel and on bothdoor-posts, he wil pass over the door and not al ow the Destroyer to enter your homes and strike.	23 Porque el Señor pasará para castigar a Egipto; pero al ver la sangre en el dintel y en los dos postes, pasará de largo por aquella puerta, y no permitirá que el Exterminador entre en sus casas para castigarlos.
24 You wil observe this as a decree binding you and your children for al time,	24 Cumplan estas disposiciones como un precepto permanente, para ustedes y para sus hijos.
25 and when you have entered the country which Yahweh will give you, as he has promised, you wilobserve this ritual.	25 Cuando lleguen a la tierra que el Señor ha prometido darles, observen este rito.
26 And when your children ask you, "What does this ritual mean?"	26 Y cuando sus hijos les pregunten qué significado tiene para ustedes este rito,
27 you will tel them, "It is the Passover sacrifice in honour of Yahweh who passed over the houses ofthe Israelites in Egypt, and struck Egypt but spared our houses." ' And the people bowed in worship.	27 les responderán: «Este es el sacrificio de la Pascua del Señor, que pasó de largo en Egipto por las casas de los israelitas cuando castigó a los egipcios y salvó a nuestras familias». El pueblo de postró en señal de adoración.
28 The Israelites then went away and did as Yahweh had ordered Moses and Aaron.	28 Luego los israelitas se fueron y realizaron exactamente todo lo que el Señor había ordenado a Moisés y a Aarón.
29 And at midnight Yahweh struck down al the first-born in Egypt from the first-born of Pharaoh, heir tohis throne, to the first-born of the prisoner in the dungeon, and the first-born of all the livestock.	29 A medianoche, el Señor exterminó a todos los primogénitos en el país de Egipto, desde el primogénito del Faraón –el que debía sucederle en el trono– hasta el primogénito del que estaba preso en la cárcel, y a todos los primogénitos del ganado.
30 Pharaoh and al his officials and al the Egyptians got up in the night, and there was great wailing inEgypt, for there was not a house without its dead.	30 El Faraón se levantó aquella noche lo mismo que todos sus servidores y todos los egipcios, y en Egipto resonó un alarido inmenso, porque no había ninguna casa donde no hubiera un muerto.
31 It was stil dark when Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, 'Up, leave my subjects, youand the Israelites! Go and worship Yahweh as you have asked!	31 Esa misma noche, el Faraón mandó llamar a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo: «Salgan inmediatamente de en medio de mi pueblo, ustedes y todos los israelitas, y vayan a dar culto al Señor, como lo habían pedido.
32 And take your flocks and herds as you have asked, and go! And bless me too!'	32 Tomen también sus ovejas y sus vacas, puesto que así lo quieren, y váyanse. Imploren una bendición también para mí».
33 The Egyptians urged the people on and hurried them out of the country because, they said,'Otherwise we shal al be dead.'	33 Los egipcios, por su parte, urgían al pueblo para obligarlo a salir del país lo antes posible, porque decían: «De lo contrario, todos moriremos».
34 So the people carried off their dough stil unleavened, their bowls wrapped in their cloaks, on theirshoulders.	34 El pueblo recogió la masa para el pan antes que fermentara, y envolviendo en sus mantos los utensilios de cocina, los cargaron sobre sus hombres.
35 The Israelites did as Moses had told them and asked the Egyptians for silver and golden jewel ery,and clothing.	35 Además, los israelitas hicieron lo que Moisés les había ordenado: pidieron a los egipcios objetos de oro y plata, y también ropa,
36 Yahweh made the Egyptians so much impressed with the people that they gave them what theyasked. So they despoiled the Egyptians.	36 y el Señor hizo que el pueblo se ganara el favor de los egipcios, los cuales accedieron a su pedido. De este modo, los israelitas despojaron a los egipcios.
37 The Israelites left Rameses for Succoth, about six hundred thousand on the march-men, that is, notcounting their families.	37 Los israelitas partieron de Ramsés en dirección a Sucot. Eran unos seiscientos mil hombres de a pie, sin contar sus familias.
38 A mixed crowd of people went with them, and flocks and herds, quantities of livestock.	38 Con ellos iba también una multitud heterogénea, y una gran cantidad de ganado mayor y menor.
39 And with the dough which they had brought from Egypt they baked unleavened cakes, because thedough had not risen, since they had been driven out of Egypt without time to linger or to prepare food forthemselves.	39 Como la pasta que habían traído de Egipto no había fermentado, hicieron con ella galletas ácimas. Al ser expulsados de Egipto no pudieron demorarse ni preparar provisiones para el camino.
40 The time that the Israelites spent in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.	40 Los israelitas estuvieron en Egipto cuatrocientos treinta años.
41 And on the very day the four hundred and thirty years ended, al Yahweh's armies left Egypt.	41 Y el día en que se cumplían esos cuatrocientos treinta años, todos los ejércitos de Israel salieron de Egipto.
42 The night when Yahweh kept vigil to bring them out of Egypt must be kept as a vigil in honour ofYahweh by al Israelites, for al generations.	42 El Señor veló durante aquella noche, para hacerlos salir de Egipto. Por eso, todos los israelitas deberán velar esa misma noche en honor del Señor, a lo largo de las generaciones.
43 Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, 'This is the ritual for the Passover: no alien may eat it,	43 El Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: «Estas son las disposiciones relativas a la Pascua. No deberá comerla ningún extranjero.
44 but any slave bought for money may eat it, once you have circumcised him.	44 En cambio, podrá hacerlo todo esclavo adquirido con dinero, con tal que antes lo hayas circuncidado.
45 No stranger and no hired servant may eat it.	45 Tampoco la comerán el huésped ni el mercenario.
46 It must be eaten in one house alone; you wil not take any of the meat out of the house; nor may youbreak any of its bones.	46 Todos la comerán en una misma casa. No saques fuera de la casa ningún pedazo de carne y no quiebres los huesos de la víctima.
47 'The whole community of Israel must keep it.	47 Toda la comunidad de Israel celebrará la Pascua.
48 Should a stranger residing with you wish to keep the Passover in honour of Yahweh, al the males ofhis household must be circumcised: he wil then be al owed to keep it and wil count as a citizen of the country.But no uncircumcised person may eat it.	48 Si un extranjero ha fijado su residencia junto a ti y quiere celebrar la Pascua en honor del Señor, antes deberán ser circuncidados todos los varones de su casa: sólo así podrá acercarse a celebrarla, porque será como el nacido en el país. Pero no la comerá ningún incircunciso.
49 The same law will apply to the citizen and the stranger resident among you.'	49 La misma ley regirá para el nativo y para el extranjero que resida entre ustedes».
50 The Israelites all did as Yahweh had ordered Moses and Aaron,	50 Así lo hicieron los israelitas, exactamente como el Señor lo había ordenado a Moisés.
51 and that same day Yahweh brought the Israelites out of Egypt in their armies.	51 Y aquel mismo día, el Señor hizo salir de Egipto a los israelitas, distribuidos en grupos.
