Tobit 10

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Every day, meanwhile, Tobit kept reckoning the days required for the journey there and the journeyback. The full number went by, and stil his son had not come.	1 Tobit, mientras tanto, llevaba cuenta, uno por uno, de los días de ida y vuelta. Cuando se cumplió el plazo sin que el hijo hubiera regresado,
2 Then he thought, 'I hope he has not been delayed there! I hope Gabael is not dead, so that no one wilgive him the silver.'	2 pensó: «¿Habrá algo que le retenga allí? ¡Acaso haya muerto Gabael y no haya nadie que le entregue el dinero!»
3 And he began to worry.	3 Y empezó a ponerse triste.
4 His wife Anna kept saying, 'My son is dead! He is no longer among the living!' And she began to weepand mourn over her son. She kept saying,	4 Ana, su mujer, decía: «Mi hijo ha muerto y ya no se cuenta entre los vivos». Y rompió a llorar y a lamentarse por su hijo, diciendo:
5 'Alas! I should never have let you leave me, my child, you, the light of my eyes.'	5 «¡Ay de mí, hijo mío! ¡Que te dejé marchar a ti, luz de mis ojos!»
6 And Tobit would reply, 'Hush, my sister! Do not worry. Al is wel with him. Something has happenedthere to delay them. His companion is someone we can trust, one of our kinsmen at that. Do not lose heart, mysister.	6 Tobit le dijo: «Calla, hermana, no pienses eso. El está bien. Habrán tenido algún contratiempo allí, pero su compañero es hombre de fiar y uno de los nuestros; no te inquietes por él, que debe estar cerca».
7 He will soon be here.' But al she would say was, 'Leave me alone; do not try to deceive me. My childis dead.' And every day she would go abruptly out to watch the road by which her son had left. She trusted noeyes but her own. Once the sun had set she would come home again, only to weep and moan al night, unableto sleep. After the fourteen days of feasting that Raguel had sworn to keep for his daughter's marriage, Tobiascame to him and said, 'Let me go now; my father and mother must have lost al hope of seeing me again. So Ibeg you, father, to let me return to my father's house; I have told you the plight he was in when I left him.'	7 Ella le replicó: «Déjame, no intentes engañarme. Mi hijo ha muerto». Y todos los días se iba a mirar el camino por donde su hijo había marchado. No creía a nadie. Y cuando se ponía el sol, entraba en casa y pasaba las noches gimiendo y llorando, sin poder dormir.
8 Raguel said to Tobias, 'Stay, my son, stay with me. I shal send messengers to your father Tobit togive him news of you.'	8 Cuando se pasaron los catorce días con que Ragüel había determinado celebrar la boda de su hija, se dirigió a él Tobías y le dijo: «Déjame regresar, porque estoy seguro que mi padre y mi madre están pensando que ya no van a volver a verme. Así que te ruego, padre, que me permitas regresar al lado de mi padre. Ya te dije en qué situación le he dejado».
9 But Tobias pressed him, 'No, I beg you to let me go back to my father's house.'	9 Ragüel respondió a Tobías: «Quédate, hijo; quédate commigo y yo enviaré mensajeros a tu padre Tobit para que le den noticias tuyas». Pero Tobías replicó: «No. Te ruego que me permitas volver al lado de mi padre».
10 Without more ado, Raguel committed Sarah his bride into his keeping. He gave Tobias half hiswealth, slaves, men and women, oxen and sheep, donkeys and camels, clothes and money and householdthings.	10 Entonces Ragüel se levantó y entregó a Tobías su mujer Sarra y la mitad de todos sus bienes, criados, criadas, bueyes y carneros, asnos y camellos, vestidos, plata y utensilios,
11 And so he let them leave happily. To Tobias he said these parting words, 'Good health, my son, anda happy journey! May the Lord of heaven be gracious to you and to your wife Sarah! I hope to see your childrenbefore I die.'	11 y les dejó partir gozosos. Al despedirse de Tobías le dijo: «¡Salud, hijo, y buen viaje! El Señor del Cielo os guíe a vosotros y a tu mujer Sarra por buen camino y que pueda yo ver vuestros hijos antes de morir».
12 To his daughter Sarah he said, 'Go now to your father-in-law's house, since henceforward they areas much your parents as those who gave you life. Go in peace, my daughter, I hope to hear nothing but good ofyou, as long as I live.' He said goodbye to them and let them go. Edna in her turn said to Tobias, 'Dear son andbrother, may it please the Lord to bring you back again! I hope to live long enough to see the children of you andmy daughter Sarah before I die. In the sight of the Lord I give my daughter into your keeping. Never make herunhappy as long as you live. Go in peace, my son. Henceforward I am your mother and Sarah is your sister.May we al live happily for the rest of our lives!' And she kissed them both and saw them set out happily.	12 A su hija Sarra le dijo: «Vas al lado de tu suegro, pues desde ahora ellos son padres tuyos igual que los que te han engendrado. Vete en paz, hija. Que tenga buenas noticias de ti, mientras yo viva». Y saludándoles, se despidió de ellos.
13 Tobias left Raguel's house with his mind at ease. In his gladness he blessed the Lord of heaven andearth, the King of al that is, for the happy issue of his travels. He gave this blessing to Raguel and his wife Edna,'May it be my happiness to honour you for the rest of my life!'	13 Edna dijo a Tobías: «Hijo y hermano queridísimo: Que el Señor te devuelva y que yo viva hasta ver tus hijos y de mi hija Sarra antes de morir. En presencia del Señor te entrego a mi hija en custodia; no le causes tristeza en todos los días de tu vida. Vete en paz, hijo. A partir de ahora, yo soy tu madre y Sarra es tu hermana. ¡Ojalá pudiéramos vivir juntos todos los días de nuestra vida!» Y besando a los dos, los dejó partir llenos de gozo.
	14 Tobías salió de casa de Ragüel contento y gozoso, y bendiciendo al Señor del Cielo y de la tierra, rey de todas las cosas, porque había llevado a buen término su viaje. Bendijo a Ragüel y a su mujer Edna y les dijo: «Que pueda yo honraros todos los días de mi vida».
