NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 When the seventh month came after the Israelites had been resettled in their towns, the peoplegathered as one person in Jerusalem.	1 Les Israélites étaient donc dans leurs villes, mais quand le septième mois arriva, le peuple se rassembla comme un seul homme, à Jérusalem.
2 Then Jeshua son of Jozadak, with his brother priests, and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, with his brothers,set about rebuilding the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it as prescribed in the Law of Mosesman of God.	2 Josué fils de Yosadak, ses frères prêtres, Zorobabel, fils de Chéaltiel, et ses frères, se mirent ensemble à rebâtir l’autel du Dieu d’Israël pour y offrir des holocaustes, comme il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse, l’homme de Dieu.
3 They erected the altar on its old site, despite their fear of the people of the country, and on it theypresented burnt offerings to Yahweh, burnt offerings morning and evening;	3 On avait beau avoir peur des païens, on reconstruisit l’autel à son emplacement et l’on y offrit des holocaustes en l’honneur de Yahvé: l’holocauste du matin et celui du soir.
4 they celebrated the feast of Shelters as prescribed, offering daily the number of burnt offerings requiredfrom day to day,	4 On célébra la fête des Tentes comme il est écrit, avec le nombre d’holocaustes fixés pour chaque jour,
5 and in addition presented the continual burnt offerings prescribed for the Sabbaths, for the New Moonsand for al the festivals sacred to Yahweh, as well as those voluntary offerings made by individuals to Yahweh.	5 puis, en plus de l’holocauste perpétuel, on offrit ceux qui étaient prévus pour les sabbats, les nouvelles lunes et toutes les fêtes en l’honneur de Yahvé; on y offrit encore les holocaustes que chacun en toute liberté voulait offrir à Yahvé.
6 From the first day of the seventh month they began presenting burnt offerings to Yahweh, though thefoundations of the Temple of Yahweh had not yet been laid.	6 Ce fut le premier jour du septième mois que l’on commença à offrir des holocaustes à Yahvé, alors que les fondations du sanctuaire de Yahvé n’étaient pas encore posées.
7 They also contributed money for the masons and carpenters, and food, drink and oil for the Sidoniansand Tyrians for bringing cedar wood from Lebanon by sea to Jaffa, for which Cyrus king of Persia had givenpermission.	7 On donna de l’argent aux tailleurs de pierre et aux charpentiers; des vivres, de la boisson et de l’huile aux gens de Sidon et de Tyr, pour qu’ils fassent venir du bois de cèdre. Ils devaient l’amener par mer depuis le Liban jusqu’à Jaffa, selon l’autorisation reçue de Cyrus, roi de Perse.
8 It was in the second month of the second year after their arrival at the Temple of God in Jerusalem thatZerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak, with the rest of their brothers, the priests, the Levitesand all the people who had returned to Jerusalem from captivity, began the work by appointing some of theLevites who were twenty years old or more to superintend the work on the Temple of Yahweh.	8 La deuxième année après leur arrivée au Temple de Dieu à Jérusalem, au deuxième mois, Zorobabel fils de Chéaltiel et Josué fils de Yosadak, le reste de leurs frères, les prêtres, les lévites et tous ceux qui étaient rentrés de captivité à Jérusalem commencèrent le travail. On chargea les lévites de 20 ans et plus, de diriger les travaux du Temple de Yahvé.
9 The Levites, Jeshua, his sons and his brothers, with Kadmiel, Binnui and his sons, the sons ofHodaviah, agreed to superintend the men working on the Temple of God.	9 Josué, ses fils et ses frères, Kadmiel et ses fils, les fils de Hodavya, prirent tous ensemble la direction de ceux qui travaillaient dans le Temple de Dieu.
10 When the builders had laid the foundations of the Temple of Yahweh, the priests in their robes stoodforward with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise Yahweh according to theordinances of David king of Israel.	10 Lorsque les bâtisseurs posèrent les fondations du Temple de Yahvé, les prêtres en tunique avec leurs trompettes, les lévites fils d’Asaf avec leurs cymbales, se présentèrent pour célébrer Yahvé comme l’avait ordonné David, roi d’Israël.
11 They chanted praise and thanksgiving to Yahweh because for Israel, they said, 'he is good, andeverlasting in his faithful love.' Then al the people raised a mighty shout of praise to Yahweh, since thefoundations of the Temple of Yahweh had now been laid.	11 Ils entonnèrent ce chant, louant et célébrant Yahvé: “Car il est bon, car éternel est son amour pour Israël!” Tout le peuple poussait de grandes acclamations, il rendait grâce à Yahvé de ce qu’on posait les fondations du Temple de Yahvé.
12 Many of the older priests, Levites and heads of families, who had seen the first temple, wept veryloudly when the foundations of this one were laid before their eyes, but many others shouted aloud for joy,	12 Beaucoup de personnes âgées, prêtres et lévites, chefs de familles qui avaient connu le premier Temple, pleuraient abondamment pendant qu’on posait sous leurs yeux les fondations, mais beaucoup d’autres laissaient éclater leurs joyeuses acclamations.
13 so that nobody could distinguish the noise of the joyful shout from the noise of the people's weeping;for the people shouted so loudly that the noise could be heard far away.	13 On ne pouvait plus distinguer le bruit des acclamations joyeuses et celui des pleurs du peuple; les acclamations étaient telles qu’on les entendait de loin.
