1 In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia -- to fulfil the word of Yahweh spoken through Jeremiah -Yahwehroused the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia to issue a proclamation and to have it publicly displayed throughout hiskingdom:1 In anno primo Cyri regis Persarum, ut compleretur verbum Domini ex oreIeremiae, suscitavit Dominus spiritum Cyri regis Persarum, qui emisit edictum inomni regno suo etiam per scripturam dicens:
2 'Cyrus king of Persia says this, "Yahweh, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earthand has appointed me to build him a Temple in Jerusalem, in Judah.2 “ Haec dicit Cyrus rex Persarum:Omnia regna terrae dedit mihi Dominus, Deus caeli, et ipse praecepit mihi, utaedificarem ei domum in Ierusalem, quae est in Iudaea.
3 Whoever among you belongs to the ful tal y of his people, may his God be with him! Let him go up toJerusalem, in Judah, and build the Temple of Yahweh, God of Israel, who is the God in Jerusalem.3 Quis ex vobis est deomni populo eius? Sit Dominus Deus suus cum eo, et ascendat in Ierusalem, quaeest in Iudaea, et aedificet domum Domini, Dei Israel; ipse est Deus, qui est inIerusalem.
4 And let each survivor, wherever he lives, be helped by the people of his locality with silver, gold,equipment and riding beasts, as wel as voluntary offerings for the Temple of God which is in Jerusalem." '4 Et omnes reliqui in cunctis locis, ubicumque habitant, adiuventur aviris de loco suo, argento et auro et substantia et pecore sicut et oblationibusspontaneis pro templo Dei, quod est in Ierusalem ”.
5 Then the heads of families of Judah and of Benjamin, the priests and the Levites, in fact al whose spirithad been roused by God, prepared to go and rebuild the Temple of Yahweh in Jerusalem;5 Et surrexerunt principes familiarum de Iuda et Beniamin et sacerdotes etLevitae et omnis, cuius Deus suscitavit spiritum, ut ascenderent ad aedificandumtemplum Domini, quod erat in Ierusalem.
6 and al their neighbours gave them every kind of help: silver, gold, equipment, riding beasts andvaluable presents, in addition to their voluntary offerings.6 Universique, qui erant in circuitu,confortaverunt manus eorum cum vasis argenteis et aureis, substantia, pecore etpensitationibus, praeter oblationes spontaneas.
7 Furthermore, King Cyrus handed over the articles belonging to the Temple of Yahweh whichNebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and put in the temple of his god.7 Rex quoque Cyrus protulit vasa templi Domini, quae tulerat Nabuchodonosor deIerusalem et posuerat ea in templo dei sui;
8 Cyrus king of Persia handed them over to Mithredath the treasurer who checked them out toSheshbazzar the prince of Judah.8 protulit autem ea Cyrus rexPersarum per manum Mithridatis praepositi thesauri, qui enumeravit ea Sasabassarprincipi Iudae.
9 The inventory was as fol ows: thirty gold dishes; one thousand silver dishes, twenty-nine repaired;9 Et hic est numerus eorum: phialae aureae triginta, phialaeargenteae mille, cultri viginti novem, scyphi aurei triginta,
10 thirty gold bowls; a thousand silver bowls, four hundred and ten damaged; one thousand other articles.10 scyphi quoqueargentei quadringenti decem, vasa alia plurima; 11 omnia vasa aurea et argenteaquinque milia quadringenta. Universa tulit Sasabassar cum his, qui ascendebantde transmigratione Babylonis in Ierusalem.
11 In al , five thousand four hundred articles of gold and silver. Sheshbazzar took al these with him whenhe led the exiles back from Babylon to Jerusalem.
