NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 When Rehoboam reached Jerusalem, he mustered a hundred and eighty thousand picked warriors ofthe House of Judah and Benjamin to fight Israel and win back the kingdom for Rehoboam.	1 - Venuto Roboamo in Gerusalemme, convocò tutta la casa di Giuda e di Beniamino, centottantamila soldati scelti, e guerrieri per combattere contro Israele e assoggettarlo al proprio regno.
2 But the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah, man of God,	2 Ma la parola del Signore si fece intendere a Semeia l'uomo di Dio, in questi termini:
3 'Say this to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to al Israel in Judah and Benjamin,	3 «Parla a Roboamo, figlio di Salomone, re di Giuda, e a tutto Israele che è in Giuda e in Beniamino, dicendo:
4 "Yahweh says this: Do not go and make war on your brothers; let everyone go home, for this is mydoing." ' They obeyed Yahweh's command and went back instead of marching against Jeroboam.	4 Questo dice il Signore: - Non salite a combattere contro i fratelli vostri, e ciascuno se ne ritorni a casa sua, poichè quanto avvenne lo fu per mia volontà -». Al sentire la parola del Signore se ne ritornarono, e non marciarono contro Geroboamo.
5 Rehoboam, residing in Jerusalem, fortified a number of towns for the defence of Judah.	5 Roboamo abitò pertanto Gerusalemme ed edificò alcune città fortificate in Giuda;
6 He built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,	6 costruì Betleem, Etam, Tecua,
7 Beth-Zur, Soco, Adul am,	7 Betsur, Soco, Odollam,
8 Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,	8 come pure Get, Maresa, Zif,
9 Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,	9 Aduram, Lachis, Azeca,
10 Zorah, Aijalon, Hebron, these being the fortified towns in Judah and Benjamin.	10 Saraa, Aialon ed Ebron che erano in Giuda e Beniamino le città più fortificate.
11 He equipped these fortresses, stationing commanders in them, with supplies of food, oil and wine,	11 Avendole cinte di mura vi pose dei capi e dei granai di vettovaglie, cioè di olio e di vino.
12 and shields and spears in each of these towns, making them extremely strong and thus retainingcontrol of Judah and Benjamin.	12 Fece altresì in ciascuna di queste città degli arsenali di scudi e di lance e le fortificò con gran cura; e così regnò sopra Giuda e Beniamino.
13 The priests and the Levites from all over Israel left their districts to put themselves at his disposal.	13 I sacerdoti e i leviti che si trovavano in tutto Israele, vennero da lui da tutte le residenze,
14 The Levites, indeed, abandoned their pasture lands and their holdings and came to Judah andJerusalem because Jeroboam and his sons had excluded them from the priesthood of Yahweh.	14 abbandonando i loro sobborghi e i loro possedimenti, passando in Giuda e in Gerusalemme, poichè in un coi loro discendenti erano stati cacciati da Geroboamo, affinchè non esercitassero il sacerdozio del Signore.
15 Jeroboam had appointed his own priests for the high places dedicated to the satyrs and calves whichhe had made.	15 In loro vece costituì sacerdoti dei luoghi eccelsi, e dei demonii, e dei vitelli da lui costruiti.
16 And those members of al the tribes of Israel who were determined to seek Yahweh, God of Israel,fol owed those priests and Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	16 Parimenti da tutte le tribù di Israele tutti quelli che avevano in cuore di servire il Signore Iddio di Israele vennero a Gerusalemme per immolarvi le loro vittime al cospetto del Signore Dio dei loro padri.
17 These added strength to the kingdom of Judah and gave their support to Rehoboam son of Solomonfor three years. For three years they remained loyal to David and Solomon.	17 Così fortificarono il regno di Giuda e consolidarono Roboamo, figlio di Salomone, per tre anni, poichè essi seguirono le vie di Davide e di Salomone per tre anni soltanto.
18 Rehoboam married Mahalath daughter of Jerimoth, son of David, and of Abihail daughter of Eliabson of Jesse,	18 Roboamo prese in moglie Maalat, figlia di Jerimot, figliuolo di Davide; così pure Abiail, figlia di Eliab, figlio di Isai,
19 and she bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham.	19 la quale gli generò i figli Jeus, Somoria e Zoom.
20 After her, he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.	20 Dopo questa prese ancora in moglie Maaca, figlia di Absalom, che gli generò Abia, Etai, Ziza e Salomit.
21 Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom, more than all his other wives and concubines. Hehad in fact a total of eighteen wives and sixty concubines and fathered twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.	21 Roboamo amò Maaca, figlia di Absalom a preferenza di tutte le altre sue mogli e concubine, poichè egli ebbe diciotto mogli e sessanta concubine. Egli generò ventotto figli e sessanta figlie.
22 Rehoboam named Abijah son of Maacah as head, hence leader, of his brothers, with a view tomaking him king,	22 Costituì poi Abia, figlio di Maaca, capo e duce di tutti i suoi fratelli, avendo in animo di farlo regnare,
23 and acted wisely by distributing his sons throughout the territories of Judah and Benjamin, some ineach fortified town, where he provided plenty of food for them and found them wives.	23 perchè era più sapiente e più potente di tutti gli altri suoi figliuoli, i quali erano sparsi in tutti i confini di Giuda e di Beniamino e in tutte le città fortificate. Ad essi diede da vivere largamente e li provvide di molte mogli.
