2 Chronicles 11

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 When Rehoboam reached Jerusalem, he mustered a hundred and eighty thousand picked warriors ofthe House of Judah and Benjamin to fight Israel and win back the kingdom for Rehoboam.	1 Roboam se rendit à Jérusalem; il convoqua la maison de Juda et de Benjamin, soit 180.000guerriers d'élite, pour combattre Israël et rendre le royaume à Roboam.
2 But the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah, man of God,	2 Mais la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Shemaya, l'homme de Dieu, en ces termes:
3 'Say this to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to al Israel in Judah and Benjamin,	3 "Dis ceci à Roboam, fils de Salomon, roi de Juda, et à tous les Israélites qui sont en Juda eten Benjamin:
4 "Yahweh says this: Do not go and make war on your brothers; let everyone go home, for this is mydoing." ' They obeyed Yahweh's command and went back instead of marching against Jeroboam.	4 Ainsi parle Yahvé. N'allez pas vous battre contre vos frères; que chacun retourne chez soi,car cet événement vient de moi." Ils écoutèrent les paroles de Yahvé et firent demi-tour au lieu de marchercontre Jéroboam.
5 Rehoboam, residing in Jerusalem, fortified a number of towns for the defence of Judah.	5 Roboam habita Jérusalem et construisit des villes fortifiées en Juda.
6 He built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,	6 Il restaura Bethléem, Etam et Teqoa,
7 Beth-Zur, Soco, Adul am,	7 Bet-Cur, Soko, Adullam,
8 Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,	8 Gat, Maresha, Ziph,
9 Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,	9 Adorayim, Lakish, Azéqa,
10 Zorah, Aijalon, Hebron, these being the fortified towns in Judah and Benjamin.	10 Coréa, Ayyalôn, Hébron; c'étaient des villes fortifiées en Juda et en Benjamin.
11 He equipped these fortresses, stationing commanders in them, with supplies of food, oil and wine,	11 Il les fortifia puissamment et y mit des commandants, ainsi que des réserves de vivres, huileet de vin.
12 and shields and spears in each of these towns, making them extremely strong and thus retainingcontrol of Judah and Benjamin.	12 Dans chacune de ces villes il y avait des boucliers et des lances. Il les rendit extrêmementfortes et fut maître de Juda et de Benjamin.
13 The priests and the Levites from all over Israel left their districts to put themselves at his disposal.	13 Les prêtres et les lévites qui se trouvaient dans tout Israël quittèrent leur territoire pours'établir près de lui.
14 The Levites, indeed, abandoned their pasture lands and their holdings and came to Judah andJerusalem because Jeroboam and his sons had excluded them from the priesthood of Yahweh.	14 Les lévites, en effet, abandonnèrent leurs pâturages et leurs patrimoines et vinrent en Juda età Jérusalem, Jéroboam et ses fils les ayant exclus du sacerdoce de Yahvé.

17 These added strength to the kingdom of Judah and gave their support to Rehoboam son of Solomonfor three years. For three years they remained loyal to David and Solomon.	17 Ils renforcèrent le royaume de Juda et, pendant trois ans, soutinrent Roboam, fils deSalomon, car c'est pendant trois ans qu'il suivit la voie de David et de Salomon.
18 Rehoboam married Mahalath daughter of Jerimoth, son of David, and of Abihail daughter of Eliabson of Jesse,	18 Roboam prit pour femme Mahalat, fille de Yerimot, fils de David, et d'Abihayil, filled'Eliab, fils de Jessé.
19 and she bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham.	19 Elle lui donna des fils: Yéush, Shemarya et Zaham.
20 After her, he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.	20 Il épousa après elle Maaka, fille d'Absalom, qui lui enfanta Abiyya, Attaï, Ziza et Shelomit.
21 Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom, more than all his other wives and concubines. Hehad in fact a total of eighteen wives and sixty concubines and fathered twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.	21 Roboam aima Maaka, fille d'Absalom, plus que toutes ses autres femmes et concubines. Ilavait en effet pris dix-huit femmes et 60 concubines, et engendré 28 fils et 60 filles.
22 Rehoboam named Abijah son of Maacah as head, hence leader, of his brothers, with a view tomaking him king,	22 Roboam fit d'Abiyya, fils de Maaka, le chef de famille, prince parmi ses frères, afin de lefaire roi.
23 and acted wisely by distributing his sons throughout the territories of Judah and Benjamin, some ineach fortified town, where he provided plenty of food for them and found them wives.	23 Roboam fut avisé et il répartit certains de ses fils dans toutes les régions de Juda et deBenjamin et dans toutes les villes fortifiées; il les pourvut de vivres en abondance et leur trouva des femmes.
