1 When Rehoboam reached Jerusalem, he mustered a hundred and eighty thousand picked warriors ofthe House of Judah and Benjamin to fight Israel and win back the kingdom for Rehoboam.	1 E giunto che fu Roboamo a Gerusalemme, convocò tutta la tribù di Giuda, e quella di Beiliamin, in numero di cento ottanta mila scelti combattenti, per far guerra ad Israele, e riunirlo al suo regno.
2 But the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah, man of God,	2 Ma il Signore parlò a Semeia uomo di Dio, e disse:
3 'Say this to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to al Israel in Judah and Benjamin,	3 Dirai a Roboam figliuòlo di Salomone, re di Giuda, e a tutto Israele di Giuda, e di Benjamin:
4 "Yahweh says this: Do not go and make war on your brothers; let everyone go home, for this is mydoing." ' They obeyed Yahweh's command and went back instead of marching against Jeroboam.	4 Queste cose dice il Signore: Non vi moverete, né farete guerra ai vostri fratelli: se ne torni ciascuno a casa sua, perocché per voler mio è avvenuto questo. E quelli, udita la parola del Signore, se n'andarono, né si mossero contro Geroboam.
5 Rehoboam, residing in Jerusalem, fortified a number of towns for the defence of Judah.	5 E Roboamo abitò in Gerusalemme, e fabbricò delle città murate nel paese di Giuda.
6 He built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,	6 E fortificò Bethlehem, ed Etam, e Thecue;
7 Beth-Zur, Soco, Adul am,	7 Ed anche Bethsur, e Socho, e Odollam;
8 Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,	8 E Geth, e Maresa, e Ziph;
9 Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,	9 E Aduram, e Lachis, e Azeca;
10 Zorah, Aijalon, Hebron, these being the fortified towns in Judah and Benjamin.	10 E Saraa, e Ajalon, ed Hebron, che erano nel paese di Giuda, e di Beniamin, città fortissime.
11 He equipped these fortresses, stationing commanders in them, with supplies of food, oil and wine,	11 E quando le ebbe cinte di mura, vi pose dei governatori, e dei magazzini di viveri, cioè d'olio, e di vino.
12 and shields and spears in each of these towns, making them extremely strong and thus retainingcontrol of Judah and Benjamin.	12 E parimente fece in tutte le città un arsenale di scudi, e di picche, e le fortificò con grandissima cura: e regnò sopra la tribù di Giuda, e di Beniamin.
13 The priests and the Levites from all over Israel left their districts to put themselves at his disposal.	13 E i sacerdoti, e i Leviti, che erano in tutto Israele, andarono a lui da tutti i luoghi loro,
14 The Levites, indeed, abandoned their pasture lands and their holdings and came to Judah andJerusalem because Jeroboam and his sons had excluded them from the priesthood of Yahweh.	14 E abbandonando i sobborghi, e tutti i loro beni, passarono dalla parte di Giuda, e di Gerusalemme: perchè Geroboam, e i suoi figliuoli li maltrattavano, affinchè non facessero le funzioni del sacerdozio del Signore.
15 Jeroboam had appointed his own priests for the high places dedicated to the satyrs and calves whichhe had made.	15 Ed egli creò sacerdoti del luoghi eccelsi, e de' demonj, e de' vitelli, che avea fatti.
16 And those members of al the tribes of Israel who were determined to seek Yahweh, God of Israel,fol owed those priests and Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	16 Ma di tutte le tribù d'Israele tutti quelli, che aveano in cuore di seguire il Signore Dio d'Israele, andavano a Gerusalemme ad offerirvi le loro vittime dinanzi al Signore Dio de' padri loro.
17 These added strength to the kingdom of Judah and gave their support to Rehoboam son of Solomonfor three years. For three years they remained loyal to David and Solomon.	17 E fortificarono il regno di Giuda, e sostennero il regno di Roboam figliuolo di Salomone per tre anni: perocché eglino batterono le vie di David, e di Salomone per tre anni.
18 Rehoboam married Mahalath daughter of Jerimoth, son of David, and of Abihail daughter of Eliabson of Jesse,	18 Or Roboamo prese per moglie Mahalath, figliuola di Jerimoth, figliuolo di David: ed anche Abihail figliuola di Eliab, figliuolo d'Isai.
19 and she bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham.	19 La quale gli partorì Jehus, e Somoria, e Zoom.
20 After her, he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.	20 Dopo questa sposò Maacha figliuola di Assalone, la quale gli partorì Abia, ed Ethai, e Ziza e Salomith.
21 Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom, more than all his other wives and concubines. Hehad in fact a total of eighteen wives and sixty concubines and fathered twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.	21 E Roboam amò Maacha figliuola di Assalone più di tutte le sue mogli, e concubine: perocché egli avea diciotto mogli, e sessanta concubine: e generò ventotto figliuoli, e sessenta figliuole.
22 Rehoboam named Abijah son of Maacah as head, hence leader, of his brothers, with a view tomaking him king,	22 Ma ad Abia figliuolo di Maacha diede la preferenza, e lo fece come capo sopra tutti i suoi fratelli: perocché aveva in animo di dargli il regno,
23 and acted wisely by distributing his sons throughout the territories of Judah and Benjamin, some ineach fortified town, where he provided plenty of food for them and found them wives.	23 Perchè egli era più saggio, e più forte di tutti i suoi figliuoli, ì quali stavano qua, e là ai confini di Giuda, e di Beniamin in tutte le città murate, dove dava loro da vivere largamente, e li provvide di molte mogli.
