1 Thus, al Israel's official genealogies had been entered in the records of the kings of Israel and Judahbefore they were deported to Babylon for their infidelity.	1 וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל הִתְיַחְשׂוּ וְהִנָּם כְּתוּבִים עַל־סֵפֶר מַלְכֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וִיהוּדָה הָגְלוּ לְבָבֶל בְּמַעֲלָם׃ ס
2 Now the first citizens to return to their property in their cities were the Israelites, the priests, the Levitesand the temple slaves.	2 וְהַיֹּושְׁבִים הָרִאשֹׁנִים אֲשֶׁר בַּאֲחֻזָּתָם בְּעָרֵיהֶם יִשְׂרָאֵל הַכֹּהֲנִים הַלְוִיִּם וְהַנְּתִינִים
3 In Jerusalem, there settled Judaeans, Benjaminites, Ephraimites and Manassehites.	3 וּבִירוּשָׁלִַם יָשְׁבוּ מִן־בְּנֵי יְהוּדָה וּמִן־בְּנֵי בִנְיָמִן וּמִן־בְּנֵי אֶפְרַיִם וּמְנַשֶּׁה
4 Uthai son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, one of the sons of Perez son of Judah.	4 עוּתַי בֶּן־עַמִּיהוּד בֶּן־עָמְרִי בֶּן־אִמְרִי בֶן־ [בָּנִימִן־ כ] (בָּנִי ק) (מִן־בְּנֵי־פֶרֶץ ק) בֶּן־יְהוּדָה
5 Of the descendants of Shelah: Asaiah, the first-born, and his sons.	5 וּמִן־הַשִּׁילֹונִי עֲשָׂיָה הַבְּכֹור וּבָנָיו
6 Of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel. And six hundred and ninety of their kinsmen.	6 וּמִן־בְּנֵי־זֶרַח יְעוּאֵל וַאֲחֵיהֶם שֵׁשׁ־מֵאֹות וְתִשְׁעִים
7 And of the sons of Benjamin: Sal u son of Meshul am, son of Hodaviah, son of Hassenuah;	7 וּמִן־בְּנֵי בִּנְיָמִן סַלּוּא בֶּן־מְשֻׁלָּם בֶּן־הֹודַוְיָה בֶּן־הַסְּנֻאָה
8 Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, son of Michri; and Meshul am son of Shephatiah, son ofReuel, son of Ibnijah.	8 וְיִבְנְיָה בֶּן־יְרֹחָם וְאֵלָה בֶן־עֻזִּי בֶּן־מִכְרִי וּמְשֻׁלָּם בֶּן־שְׁפַטְיָה בֶּן־רְעוּאֵל בֶּן־יִבְנִיָּה
9 Their kinsmen, according to their relationship, numbered nine hundred and fifty-six. Al these men werechiefs of their families.	9 וַאֲחֵיהֶם לְתֹלְדֹותָם תְּשַׁע מֵאֹות וַחֲמִשִּׁים וְשִׁשָּׁה כָּל־אֵלֶּה אֲנָשִׁים רָאשֵׁי אָבֹות לְבֵית אֲבֹתֵיהֶם׃ ס
10 Of the priests there were Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, Jachin,	10 וּמִן־הַכֹּהֲנִים יְדַעְיָה וִיהֹויָרִיב וְיָכִין
11 Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshul am, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the chief ofthe Temple of God;	11 וַעֲזַרְיָה בֶן־חִלְקִיָּה בֶּן־מְשֻׁלָּם בֶּן־צָדֹוק בֶּן־מְרָיֹות בֶּן־אֲחִיטוּב נְגִיד בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים׃ ס
12 Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah,son of Meshullam, son of Meshil emith, son of Immer.	12 וַעֲדָיָה בֶּן־יְרֹחָם בֶּן־פַּשְׁחוּר בֶּן־מַלְכִּיָּה וּמַעְשַׂי בֶּן־עֲדִיאֵל בֶּן־יַחְזֵרָה בֶּן־מְשֻׁלָּם בֶּן־מְשִׁלֵּמִית בֶּן־אִמֵּר
13 Their kinsmen, heads of families, numbered one thousand seven hundred and sixty-men expert in theministerial service of the Temple of God.	13 וַאֲחֵיהֶם רָאשִׁים לְבֵית אֲבֹותָם אֶלֶף וּשְׁבַע מֵאֹות וְשִׁשִּׁים גִּבֹּורֵי חֵיל מְלֶאכֶת עֲבֹודַת בֵּית־הָאֱלֹהִים
14 Of the Levites there were Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah of the sons ofMerari,	14 וּמִן־הַלְוִיִּם שְׁמַעְיָה בֶן־חַשּׁוּב בֶּן־עַזְרִיקָם בֶּן־חֲשַׁבְיָה מִן־בְּנֵי מְרָרִי
15 Bakbakar, Heresh, Galai, Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph.	15 וּבַקְבַּקַּר חֶרֶשׁ וְגָלָל וּמַתַּנְיָה בֶּן־מִיכָא בֶּן־זִכְרִי בֶּן־אָסָף
16 Obadiah son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun and Berechiah son of Asa, son of Elkanah,who lived in the dependencies of the Netophathites.	16 וְעֹבַדְיָה בֶּן־שְׁמַעְיָה בֶּן־גָּלָל בֶּן־יְדוּתוּן וּבֶרֶכְיָה בֶן־אָסָא בֶּן־אֶלְקָנָה הַיֹּושֵׁב בְּחַצְרֵי נְטֹופָתִי
17 The gatekeepers were Shal um, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their kinsmen. Shal um was the chief	17 וְהַשֹּׁעֲרִים שַׁלּוּם וְעַקּוּב וְטַלְמֹן וַאֲחִימָן וַאֲחִיהֶם שַׁלּוּם הָרֹאשׁ
18 and is stil gatekeeper of the King's Gate to the east. They were the gatekeepers of the camps of thesons of Levi.	18 וְעַד־הֵנָּה בְּשַׁעַר הַמֶּלֶךְ מִזְרָחָה הֵמָּה הַשֹּׁעֲרִים לְמַחֲנֹות בְּנֵי לֵוִי
19 Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers belonging to his family, theKorahites, were also in charge of the ministerial service as doorkeepers of the Tent, as their ancestors had beenkeepers of the entrance to the camp of Yahweh.	19 וְשַׁלּוּם בֶּן־קֹורֵא בֶּן־אֶבְיָסָף בֶּן־קֹרַח וְאֶחָיו לְבֵית־אָבִיו הַקָּרְחִים עַל מְלֶאכֶת הָעֲבֹודָה שֹׁמְרֵי הַסִּפִּים לָאֹהֶל וַאֲבֹתֵיהֶם עַל־מַחֲנֵה יְהוָה שֹׁמְרֵי הַמָּבֹוא
20 Formerly, Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of them -- Yahweh be with him!	20 וּפִינְחָס בֶּן־אֶלְעָזָר נָגִיד הָיָה עֲלֵיהֶם לְפָנִים יְהוָה ׀ עִמֹּו
21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the door of the Tent of Meeting.	21 זְכַרְיָה בֶּן מְשֶׁלֶמְיָה שֹׁעֵר פֶּתַח לְאֹהֶל מֹועֵד
22 Al the keepers of the gate at the thresholds were picked men; there were two hundred and twelve ofthem. They were grouped by relationship in their various vil ages. These were confirmed in office by David and Samuel the seer because of their dependability.	22 כֻּלָּם הַבְּרוּרִים לְשֹׁעֲרִים בַּסִּפִּים מָאתַיִם וּשְׁנֵים עָשָׂר הֵמָּה בְחַצְרֵיהֶם הִתְיַחְשָׂם הֵמָּה יִסַּד דָּוִיד וּשְׁמוּאֵל הָרֹאֶה בֶּאֱמוּנָתָם
23 They and their sons continued in charge as guards of the gates of the Temple of Yahweh, the houseof the Tent.	23 וְהֵם וּבְנֵיהֶם עַל־הַשְּׁעָרִים לְבֵית־יְהוָה לְבֵית־הָאֹהֶל לְמִשְׁמָרֹות
24 The gatekeepers were assigned to the four sides, east, west, north and south,	24 לְאַרְבַּע רוּחֹות יִהְיוּ הַשֹּׁעֲרִים מִזְרָח יָמָּה צָפֹונָה וָנֶגְבָּה
25 and their brothers in their vil ages were required to assist them from time to time for a week,	25 וַאֲחֵיהֶם בְּחַצְרֵיהֶם לָבֹוא לְשִׁבְעַת הַיָּמִים מֵעֵת אֶל־עֵת עִם־אֵלֶּה
26 since the four head gatekeepers were permanently on duty. They were Levites and were in charge ofthe accommodation and supplies of the Temple of God.	26 כִּי בֶאֱמוּנָה הֵמָּה אַרְבַּעַת גִּבֹּרֵי הַשֹּׁעֲרִים הֵם הַלְוִיִּם וְהָיוּ עַל־הַלְּשָׁכֹות וְעַל הָאֹצְרֹות בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים
27 They spent the night in the precincts of the Temple of God, their duties being to guard it and open itevery morning.	27 וּסְבִיבֹות בֵּית־הָאֱלֹהִים יָלִינוּ כִּי־עֲלֵיהֶם מִשְׁמֶרֶת וְהֵם עַל־הַמַּפְתֵּחַ וְלַבֹּקֶר לַבֹּקֶר
28 Some of them were in charge of the implements of worship, having to count them when they tookthem out and when they put them away.	28 וּמֵהֶם עַל־כְּלֵי הָעֲבֹודָה כִּי־בְמִסְפָּר יְבִיאוּם וּבְמִסְפָּר יֹוצִיאוּם
29 Others of them were put in charge of the implements, of al the objects in the sanctuary and of theflour, the wine, the oil, the incense and the perfume.	29 וּמֵהֶם מְמֻנִּים עַל־הַכֵּלִים וְעַל כָּל־כְּלֵי הַקֹּדֶשׁ וְעַל־הַסֹּלֶת וְהַיַּיִן וְהַשֶּׁמֶן וְהַלְּבֹונָה וְהַבְּשָׂמִים
30 Members of the priestly caste, however, mixed the ointment for the perfume.	30 וּמִן־בְּנֵי הַכֹּהֲנִים רֹקְחֵי הַמִּרְקַחַת לַבְּשָׂמִים
31 One of the Levites, Mattithiah -- he was the first-born of Shal um the Korahite -- had regular charge ofbaking operations.	31 וּמַתִּתְיָה מִן־הַלְוִיִּם הוּא הַבְּכֹור לְשַׁלֻּם הַקָּרְחִי בֶּאֱמוּנָה עַל מַעֲשֵׂה הַחֲבִתִּים
32 Some of their kinsmen the Kohathites were responsible for the loaves to be set out in rows Sabbathby Sabbath.	32 וּמִן־בְּנֵי הַקְּהָתִי מִן־אֲחֵיהֶם עַל־לֶחֶם הַמַּעֲרָכֶת לְהָכִין שַׁבַּת שַׁבָּת׃ ס
33 In addition, there were the singers, the heads of the levitical families, who were accommodated in theTemple, free of other responsibilities because they were on duty day and night.	33 וְאֵלֶּה הַמְשֹׁרְרִים רָאשֵׁי אָבֹות לַלְוִיִּם בַּלְּשָׁכֹת [פְּטִירִים כ] (פְּטוּרִים ק) כִּי־יֹומָם וָלַיְלָה עֲלֵיהֶם בַּמְּלָאכָה
34 Such were the chiefs of the levitical families, according to their relationship; these lived in Jerusalem.	34 אֵלֶּה רָאשֵׁי הָאָבֹות לַלְוִיִּם לְתֹלְדֹותָם רָאשִׁים אֵלֶּה יָשְׁבוּ בִירוּשָׁלִָם׃ פ
35 Jeiel father of Gibeon lived at Gibeon and his wife was cal ed Maacah.	35 וּבְגִבְעֹון יָשְׁבוּ אֲבִי־גִבְעֹון [יְעוּאֵל כ] (יְעִיאֵל ק) וְשֵׁם אִשְׁתֹּו מַעֲכָה
36 His first-born son was Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,	36 וּבְנֹו הַבְּכֹור עַבְדֹּון וְצוּר וְקִישׁ וּבַעַל וְנֵר וְנָדָב
37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth.	37 וּגְדֹור וְאַחְיֹו וּזְכַרְיָה וּמִקְלֹות
38 Mikloth fathered Shimeam. But they, unlike their brothers, lived at Jerusalem with their brothers.	38 וּמִקְלֹות הֹולִיד אֶת־שִׁמְאָם וְאַף־הֵם נֶגֶד אֲחֵיהֶם יָשְׁבוּ בִירוּשָׁלִַם עִם־אֲחֵיהֶם׃ ס
39 Ner fathered Kish, Kish fathered Saul, Saul fathered Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab and Eshbaal.	39 וְנֵר הֹולִיד אֶת־קִישׁ וְקִישׁ הֹולִיד אֶת־שָׁאוּל וְשָׁאוּל הֹולִיד אֶת־יְהֹונָתָן וְאֶת־מַלְכִּי־שׁוּעַ וְאֶת־אֲבִינָדָב וְאֶת־אֶשְׁבָּעַל
40 Son of Jonathan: Meribbaal. Meribbaal fathered Micah.	40 וּבֶן־יְהֹונָתָן מְרִיב בָּעַל וּמְרִי־בַעַל הֹולִיד אֶת־מִיכָה
41 Sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea.	41 וּבְנֵי מִיכָה פִּיתֹון וָמֶלֶךְ וְתַחְרֵעַ
42 Ahaz fathered Jarah, Jarah fathered Alemeth, Azmaveth and Zimri; Zimri fathered Moza,	42 וְאָחָז הֹולִיד אֶת־יַעְרָה וְיַעְרָה הֹולִיד אֶת־עָלֶמֶת וְאֶת־עַזְמָוֶת וְאֶת־זִמְרִי וְזִמְרִי הֹולִיד אֶת־מֹוצָא
43 Moza fathered Binea, Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son and Azel his son.	43 וּמֹוצָא הֹולִיד אֶת־בִּנְעָא וּרְפָיָה בְנֹו אֶלְעָשָׂה בְנֹו אָצֵל בְּנֹו
44 Azel had six sons; their names were these: Azrikam his first-born, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah,Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.	44 וּלְאָצֵל שִׁשָּׁה בָנִים וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמֹותָם עַזְרִיקָם ׀ בֹּכְרוּ וְיִשְׁמָעֵאל וּשְׁעַרְיָה וְעֹבַדְיָה וְחָנָן אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי אָצַל׃ פ
