1 Thus, al Israel's official genealogies had been entered in the records of the kings of Israel and Judahbefore they were deported to Babylon for their infidelity.1 Universus ergo Israël dinumeratus est, et summa eorum scripta est in libro regum Israël et Juda : translatique sunt in Babylonem propter delictum suum.
2 Now the first citizens to return to their property in their cities were the Israelites, the priests, the Levitesand the temple slaves.2 Qui autem habitaverunt primi in possessionibus et in urbibus suis : Israël, et sacerdotes, et Levitæ, et Nathinæi.
3 In Jerusalem, there settled Judaeans, Benjaminites, Ephraimites and Manassehites.3 Commorati sunt in Jerusalem de filiis Juda, et de filiis Benjamin, de filiis quoque Ephraim, et Manasse.
4 Uthai son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani, one of the sons of Perez son of Judah.4 Othei filius Ammiud, filii Amri, filii Omrai, filii Bonni, de filiis Phares filii Juda.

11 Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshul am, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the chief ofthe Temple of God;11 Azarias quoque filius Helciæ, filii Mosollam, filii Sadoc, filii Maraioth, filii Achitob, pontifex domus Dei.
12 Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah; and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah,son of Meshullam, son of Meshil emith, son of Immer.12 Porro Adaias filius Jeroham, filii Phassur, filii Melchiæ, et Maasai filius Adiel filii Jezra, filii Mosollam, filii Mosollamith, filii Emmer.
13 Their kinsmen, heads of families, numbered one thousand seven hundred and sixty-men expert in theministerial service of the Temple of God.13 Fratres quoque eorum principes per familias suas, mille septingenti sexaginta, fortissimi robore ad faciendum opus ministerii in domo Dei.
14 Of the Levites there were Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah of the sons ofMerari,14 De Levitis autem : Semeia filius Hassub filii Ezricam, filii Hasebia de filiis Merari.
15 Bakbakar, Heresh, Galai, Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zichri, son of Asaph.15 Bacbacar quoque carpentarius, et Galal, et Mathania filius Micha, filii Zechri, filii Asaph :
16 Obadiah son of Shemaiah, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun and Berechiah son of Asa, son of Elkanah,who lived in the dependencies of the Netophathites.16 et Obdia filius Semeiæ, filii Galal, filii Idithun : et Barachia filius Asa, filii Elcana, qui habitavit in atriis Netophati.
17 The gatekeepers were Shal um, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman and their kinsmen. Shal um was the chief17 Janitores autem : Sellum, et Accub, et Telmon, et Ahimam : et frater eorum Sellum princeps,
18 and is stil gatekeeper of the King's Gate to the east. They were the gatekeepers of the camps of thesons of Levi.18 usque ad illud tempus, in porta regis ad orientem, observabant per vices suas de filiis Levi.
19 Shallum son of Kore, son of Ebiasaph, son of Korah, and his brothers belonging to his family, theKorahites, were also in charge of the ministerial service as doorkeepers of the Tent, as their ancestors had beenkeepers of the entrance to the camp of Yahweh.19 Sellum vero filius Core filii Abiasaph, filii Core, cum fratribus suis, et domo patris sui, hi sunt Coritæ super opera ministerii, custodes vestibulorum tabernaculi : et familiæ eorum per vices castrorum Domini custodientes introitum.
20 Formerly, Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of them -- Yahweh be with him!20 Phinees autem filius Eleazari erat dux eorum coram Domino.
21 Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the door of the Tent of Meeting.21 Porro Zacharias filius Mosollamia, janitor portæ tabernaculi testimonii.
22 Al the keepers of the gate at the thresholds were picked men; there were two hundred and twelve ofthem. They were grouped by relationship in their various vil ages. These were confirmed in office by David and Samuel the seer because of their dependability.22 Omnes hi electi in ostiarios per portas, ducenti duodecim : et descripti in villis propriis, quos constituerunt David, et Samuel videns, in fide sua,
23 They and their sons continued in charge as guards of the gates of the Temple of Yahweh, the houseof the Tent.23 tam ipsos quam filios eorum, in ostiis domus Domini et in tabernaculo vicibus suis.
24 The gatekeepers were assigned to the four sides, east, west, north and south,24 Per quatuor ventos erant ostiarii : id est, ad orientem, et ad occidentem, et ad aquilonem, et ad austrum.
25 and their brothers in their vil ages were required to assist them from time to time for a week,25 Fratres autem eorum in viculis morabantur, et veniebant in sabbatis suis de tempore usque ad tempus.
26 since the four head gatekeepers were permanently on duty. They were Levites and were in charge ofthe accommodation and supplies of the Temple of God.26 His quatuor Levitis creditus erat omnis numerus janitorum, et erant super exedras et thesauros domus Domini.
27 They spent the night in the precincts of the Temple of God, their duties being to guard it and open itevery morning.27 Per gyrum quoque templi Domini morabantur in custodiis suis : ut cum tempus fuisset, ipsi mane aperirent fores.
28 Some of them were in charge of the implements of worship, having to count them when they tookthem out and when they put them away.28 De horum genere erant et super vasa ministerii : ad numerum enim et inferebantur vasa, et efferebantur.
29 Others of them were put in charge of the implements, of al the objects in the sanctuary and of theflour, the wine, the oil, the incense and the perfume.29 De ipsis et qui credita habebant utensilia sanctuarii, præerant similæ, et vino, et oleo, et thuri, et aromatibus.
30 Members of the priestly caste, however, mixed the ointment for the perfume.30 Filii autem sacerdotum unguenta ex aromatibus conficiebant.
31 One of the Levites, Mattithiah -- he was the first-born of Shal um the Korahite -- had regular charge ofbaking operations.31 Et Mathathias Levites primogenitus Sellum Coritæ, præfectus erat eorum quæ in sartagine frigebantur.
32 Some of their kinsmen the Kohathites were responsible for the loaves to be set out in rows Sabbathby Sabbath.32 Porro de filiis Caath fratribus eorum, super panes erant propositionis, ut semper novos per singula sabbata præpararent.
33 In addition, there were the singers, the heads of the levitical families, who were accommodated in theTemple, free of other responsibilities because they were on duty day and night.33 Hi sunt principes cantorum per familias Levitarum, qui in exedris morabantur, ut die ac nocte jugiter suo ministerio deservirent.
34 Such were the chiefs of the levitical families, according to their relationship; these lived in Jerusalem.34 Capita Levitarum, per familias suas principes, manserunt in Jerusalem.
35 Jeiel father of Gibeon lived at Gibeon and his wife was cal ed Maacah.35 In Gabaon autem commorati sunt pater Gabaon Jehiel, et nomen uxoris ejus Maacha.
36 His first-born son was Abdon, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,36 Filius primogenitus ejus Abdon, et Sur, et Cis, et Baal, et Ner, et Nadab,
37 Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth.37 Gedor quoque, et Ahio, et Zacharias, et Macelloth.
38 Mikloth fathered Shimeam. But they, unlike their brothers, lived at Jerusalem with their brothers.38 Porro Macelloth genuit Samaan : isti habitaverunt e regione fratrum suorum in Jerusalem cum fratribus suis.
