1 When David had become old and ful of days, he made his son Solomon king of Israel,	1 - Davide adunque vecchio e molto avanzato negli anni costituì Salomone, suo figlio, re sopra Israele
2 and then summoned al the leaders of Israel, with the priests and Levites.	2 e riunì tutti i principi e tutti i sacerdoti e i leviti.
3 A census was taken of those Levites thirty years old and upwards. On a count of heads, theynumbered thirty-eight thousand men;	3 Furono contati i leviti dai trent'anni in su e si trovò che essi erano trentottomila.
4 twenty-four thousand were responsible for the service of the House of Yahweh, six thousand wereofficials and judges,	4 Tra questi, ventiquattromila furono eletti e distribuiti nei vari servizi della casa del Signore; seimila furono fatti capi e giudici;
5 four thousand were gatekeepers and four thousand praised Yahweh on the instruments which Davidhad made for praising him.	5 quattromila furono nominati portieri e altrettanti cantori che cantavano al Signore con gli strumenti che erano stati fatti per il canto.
6 David then divided the Levites into classes: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.	6 E Davide li distribuì secondo le classi dei figli di Levi, cioè Gerson, Caat e Merari.
7 Of the Gershonites there were Ladan and Shimei.	7 I figli di Gerson: Leedan e Semei.
8 Sons of Ladan: Jehiel first, Zetham, Joel; three in al .	8 I figli di Leedan furon tre: Jaiel, capo, Zetan e Joel.
9 Sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, Haran; three in al . These are the heads of families of Ladan.	9 I figli di Semei furono tre: Salomit, Osiel e Aran. Questi furono i capi della famiglia di Leedan.
10 Sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, Beriah; these were the sons of Shimei; four in al .	10 Altri figli di Semei: Let, Ziza, Jaus e Baria. Questi quattro furono figli di Semei.
11 Jahath was the eldest, Zizah the second, then Jeush and Beriah, who had not many children andwere reckoned as one family.	11 Leet era il primo, Ziza il secondo; Jeus e Baria non ebbero molti figli, e furono considerati perciò come formanti una sola famiglia ed una sola casa.
12 Sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, Uzziel; four in al .	12 I figli di Caat furono quattro: Amram, Isaar, Ebron e Oziel.
13 Sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart to consecrate the things that were especial yholy, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense in the presence of Yahweh, to serve him and to bless in his namefor ever.	13 Figli di Amram furono: Aronne e Mosè. Aronne fu scelto per servire nel Santo dei Santi, egli e i figli suoi in perpetuo, per bruciare incenso al Signore secondo il rito e per benedire il nome di lui in perpetuo.
14 Moses, man of God, and his sons were reckoned with the tribe of Levi.	14 Anche i figli di Mosè, uomo di Dio, vennero contati nella tribù di Levi.
15 Sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.	15 Furono figli di Mosè: Gersom ed Eliezer.
16 Sons of Gershom: Shebuel, the first.	16 Il figlio di Gersom fu Subuel il primo.
17 Of the sons of Eliezer, Rehabiah was the first. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiahwere very numerous.	17 Furono poi figli di Eliezer: Roobia il primo; ed Eliezer non ebbe altri figli: ma i figli di Roobia si moltiplicarono assai.
18 Sons of Izhar: Shelomith, the first.	18 Isaar ebbe Salomit come primogenito.
19 Sons of Hebron: Jeriah first, Amariah second, Jahaziel third, Jekameam fourth.	19 Ebron ebbe primo Jeriau, secondo Amaria, terzo Jaaziel, quarto Jeemaam.
20 Sons of Uzziel: Micah first, Isshiah second.	20 I figli di Oziel furono il primo Mica e Jesia il secondo.
21 Sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. Sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.	21 I figli di Merari furono: Mooli e Musi. I figli di Mooli: Eleazar e Cis.
22 Eleazar died without sons, but he did have daughters, whom their cousins, the sons of Kish, married.	22 Morto poi Eleazar senza figli, ma solamente con figlie, queste si sposarono ai figli di Cis loro parenti.
23 Sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, Jeremoth: three in al .	23 I figli di Musi furono questi tre: Mooli, Eder e Jerimot.
24 These were the sons of Levi by their families, the heads of families, and those registered by name,individual y; whoever was twenty years old or upwards had his function in the service of the Temple of Yahweh.	24 Questi furono i figli di Levi secondo le loro parentele e famiglie, i capi delle varie classi e il numero dei singoli capi, che servivano nella casa del Signore dai venti anni in su,
25 For David said, 'Since Yahweh, God of Israel, has given rest to his people Israel and has taken upresidence in Jerusalem for ever,	25 poichè Davide aveva detto: «Il Signore Dio di Israele ha dato al popolo la pace e l'abitazione di Gerusalemme per sempre.
26 the Levites need no longer carry the Dwel ing or any of the objects required for its service.'	26 Perciò i leviti non dovranno più portare il tabernacolo e tutti i vasi occorrenti per il ministero».
27 For, according to the last words of David, the Levites who had been registered were of twenty yearsand upwards.	27 Secondo ordini recenti di Davide il numero dei leviti dovrebbe computarsi dai venti anni in su:
28 Their duty now is to help the sons of Aaron in the service of the House of Yahweh, in the care of thecourts and rooms, the purification of al the holy things, the work for the service of the House of God,	28 essi dovranno stare soggetti, per ciò che riguarda il culto del tempio nei vestiboli, nelle stanze, nel luogo della purificazione, nel santuario e in tutte le opere del servizio del tempio del Signore, ai figli di Aronne.
29 the loaves of permanent offering, the flour for the oblation, the wafers of unleavened bread, the pan-baked materials, the unmixed materials and all measures of volume and length.	29 I sacerdoti poi dovranno attendere ai pani della proposizione, alle offerte da farsi con fior di farina, alle schiacciate senza lievito, ai pani che si cuociono, alle cose che si friggono nella padella o che devono essere arrostite e inoltre ad ogni peso e misura.
30 Furthermore, they have to be present every morning to give thanks and praise to Yahweh, and alsoin the evening,	30 I leviti attenderanno a lodar e a cantare al Signore ogni mattina e ogni sera,
31 and at the bringing of every burnt offering to Yahweh on Sabbath, New Moon or solemn feast,appearing regularly before Yahweh in accordance with the numbers required of them.	31 quando si offrono olocausti al Signore durante i sabati e le calende e le altre solennità secondo il numero e gli ordini prescritti per ciascuna cosa dinanzi al Signore.
32 In serving the Temple of Yahweh they observe the ritual of the Tent of Meeting, the ritual of thesanctuary and the ritual of their kinsmen, the sons of Aaron.'	32 Dovranno inoltre custodire tutte le prescrizioni riguardanti il tabernacolo dell'alleanza, il rito del santuario e le prescrizioni dei figli di Aronne loro fratelli per compiere il loro ministero nella casa del Signore.
