1 When David had become old and ful of days, he made his son Solomon king of Israel,	1 Amikor aztán Dávid megöregedett s éltesebb korú lett, fiát, Salamont tette Izrael királyává
2 and then summoned al the leaders of Israel, with the priests and Levites.	2 és egybegyűjtötte Izrael valamennyi főemberét meg a papokat és a levitákat.
3 A census was taken of those Levites thirty years old and upwards. On a count of heads, theynumbered thirty-eight thousand men;	3 Aztán megszámláltatta a levitákat, a harmincesztendősöktől felfelé, s harmincnyolcezer főnyinek találta őket.
4 twenty-four thousand were responsible for the service of the House of Yahweh, six thousand wereofficials and judges,	4 »Ezek közül huszonnégyezret az Úr házának szolgálatára választott ki és osztott be, hatezret pedig elöljárónak és bírának,
5 four thousand were gatekeepers and four thousand praised Yahweh on the instruments which Davidhad made for praising him.	5 négyezret meg ajtónállónak, s ugyancsak ennyit arra, hogy dicsérjék az Urat azokkal a hangszerekkel, amelyeket a dicsérethez készíttetett.«
6 David then divided the Levites into classes: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.	6 Fel is osztotta őket Dávid, Lévi fiainak, tudniillik Gersonnak, Kaátnak és Merárinak rendje szerint.
7 Of the Gershonites there were Ladan and Shimei.	7 Gerson fiai voltak: Leedán és Szemei.
8 Sons of Ladan: Jehiel first, Zetham, Joel; three in al .	8 Leedán fiai voltak: Jáhiel, a fő, továbbá Zetán meg Joel: három.
9 Sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, Haran; three in al . These are the heads of families of Ladan.	9 Szemei fiai voltak: Selomit, Hosziel és Árán: három. Ők voltak a Leedántól származó családfők. –
10 Sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, Beriah; these were the sons of Shimei; four in al .	10 Szemei fiai voltak: Jahat, Zíza, Jáus és Béria; ezek négyen voltak Szemei fiai.
11 Jahath was the eldest, Zizah the second, then Jeush and Beriah, who had not many children andwere reckoned as one family.	11 Jahat volt a fő, Zíza a helyettese; Jáusnak és Bériának azonban nem volt nagyon sok fia, s azért csak egy családnak s egy háznak számítottak.
12 Sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, Uzziel; four in al .	12 Kaát fiai voltak: Amrám, Jichár, Hebron és Oziel: négy.
13 Sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart to consecrate the things that were especial yholy, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense in the presence of Yahweh, to serve him and to bless in his namefor ever.	13 Amrám fiai Áron és Mózes voltak. Áront kiválasztották, hogy fiaival együtt mindörökké a szentek szentjében szolgáljon, és illatot gyújtson az Úrnak a neki megparancsolt szertartás szerint, s mindörökké áldja az ő nevét;
14 Moses, man of God, and his sons were reckoned with the tribe of Levi.	14 Mózesnek, az Isten emberének fiait is Lévi törzsébe sorolták.
15 Sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.	15 Mózes fiai Gersom és Eliézer voltak.
16 Sons of Gershom: Shebuel, the first.	16 Gersom fiai voltak: Subaél, a fő,
17 Of the sons of Eliezer, Rehabiah was the first. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiahwere very numerous.	17 Eliézer fiai pedig: Rohóbia, a családfő, több fia nem is volt Eliézernek, de Rohóbia fiai nagyon megsokasodtak.
18 Sons of Izhar: Shelomith, the first.	18 Jichár fiai voltak: Selomit, a családfő.
19 Sons of Hebron: Jeriah first, Amariah second, Jahaziel third, Jekameam fourth.	19 Hebron fiai: Jeriáu, a családfő, Amarja a második, Jahaziél a harmadik, Jekmaán a negyedik.
20 Sons of Uzziel: Micah first, Isshiah second.	20 Oziel fiai: Míka, a családfő, Jesia a második.
21 Sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. Sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.	21 Merári fiai voltak: Moholi és Músi. Moholi fiai voltak: Eleazár és Kís.
22 Eleazar died without sons, but he did have daughters, whom their cousins, the sons of Kish, married.	22 Eleazár azonban úgy halt meg, hogy nem voltak fiai, csak leányai, ezeket testvéreik, Kís fiai vették el.
23 Sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, Jeremoth: three in al .	23 Músi fiai voltak Moholi, Eder és Jerimót: három.
24 These were the sons of Levi by their families, the heads of families, and those registered by name,individual y; whoever was twenty years old or upwards had his function in the service of the Temple of Yahweh.	24 Ezek voltak Lévi fiainak családfői, nemzetségük, családjuk, rendjük és családfőik száma szerint. Ők látták el az Úr házának szolgálatát, a húszesztendősöktől kezdve felfelé.
25 For David said, 'Since Yahweh, God of Israel, has given rest to his people Israel and has taken upresidence in Jerusalem for ever,	25 Azt mondta ugyanis Dávid: »Az Úr, Izrael Istene, immár nyugalmat adott népének, s Jeruzsálemben lakik mindörökké,
26 the Levites need no longer carry the Dwel ing or any of the objects required for its service.'	26 és így nem kell többé hordozniuk a levitáknak a hajlékot s különböző szolgálati tárgyait.
27 For, according to the last words of David, the Levites who had been registered were of twenty yearsand upwards.	27 Dávid utolsó rendelkezései szerint tehát a húszesztendősöktől fogva kell megállapítani Lévi fiainak számát.
28 Their duty now is to help the sons of Aaron in the service of the House of Yahweh, in the care of thecourts and rooms, the purification of al the holy things, the work for the service of the House of God,	28 Ők lássák el Áron fiainak felügyelete alatt az Úr házának szolgálatát, az udvarokon, a kamarákban, a tisztogatás helyén és a szent helyen, s az Úr temploma szolgálatának minden munkájában.
29 the loaves of permanent offering, the flour for the oblation, the wafers of unleavened bread, the pan-baked materials, the unmixed materials and all measures of volume and length.	29 A papok viseljenek gondot a kitett kenyerekre, a lisztlángból való ételáldozatra, a kovásztalan lepényekre, a serpenyőben készített meg a pirított dolgokra, s minden súly- és hosszmértékre,
30 Furthermore, they have to be present every morning to give thanks and praise to Yahweh, and alsoin the evening,	30 a leviták pedig álljanak elő dicséretet zengedezni és énekelni az Úrnak reggel, valamint este,
31 and at the bringing of every burnt offering to Yahweh on Sabbath, New Moon or solemn feast,appearing regularly before Yahweh in accordance with the numbers required of them.	31 továbbá a szombatokon, a hónapok első napján, s a többi ünnepen az Úr egészen elégő áldozatainak bemutatásánál, úgy, ahogy azt az Úr előtt mindenkor bemutatandó mindenegyes áldozat száma és szertartása megkívánja.
32 In serving the Temple of Yahweh they observe the ritual of the Tent of Meeting, the ritual of thesanctuary and the ritual of their kinsmen, the sons of Aaron.'	32 Így teljesítsék kötelességüket a szövetség sátra iránt, feladatukat a szent hely iránt, s kötelességüket testvéreik, Áron fiai iránt, szolgálva az Úr házában.«
