1 When David had become old and ful of days, he made his son Solomon king of Israel,	1 Viejo ya David y colmado de días, proclamó a su hijo Salomón rey de Israel.
2 and then summoned al the leaders of Israel, with the priests and Levites.	2 Reunió a todos los jefes de Israel, a los sacerdotes y a los levitas,
3 A census was taken of those Levites thirty years old and upwards. On a count of heads, theynumbered thirty-eight thousand men;	3 y se hizo el censo de los levitas de treinta años para arriba; su número, contado por cabezas uno a uno, fue de 38.000 varones.
4 twenty-four thousand were responsible for the service of the House of Yahweh, six thousand wereofficials and judges,	4 De éstos, 24.000 estaban al frente del servicio de la Casa de Yahveh; 6.000 eran escribas y jueces,
5 four thousand were gatekeepers and four thousand praised Yahweh on the instruments which Davidhad made for praising him.	5 4.000 eran porteros y 4.000 alababan a Yahveh con los instrumentos que David había fabricado para rendir alabanzas.
6 David then divided the Levites into classes: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.	6 David los distribuyó por clases, según los hijos de Leví: Guersón, Quehat y Merarí.

13 Sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart to consecrate the things that were especial yholy, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense in the presence of Yahweh, to serve him and to bless in his namefor ever.	13 Hijos de Amram: Aarón y Moisés. Aarón fue separado, juntamente con sus hijos, para consagrar por siempre las cosas sacratísimas, para quemar incienso ante Yahveh, para servirle y para bendecir en su nombre por siempre.
14 Moses, man of God, and his sons were reckoned with the tribe of Levi.	14 En cuanto a Moisés, varón de Dios, sus hijos fueron contados en la tribu de Leví.
15 Sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.	15 Hijos de Moisés: Guersom y Eliezer.
16 Sons of Gershom: Shebuel, the first.	16 Hijos de Guersom: Sebuel, el primero.
17 Of the sons of Eliezer, Rehabiah was the first. Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiahwere very numerous.	17 Hijos de Eliezer: Rejabías, el primero. Eliezer no tuvo más hijos, pero los hijos de Rejabías fueron muy numerosos.
18 Sons of Izhar: Shelomith, the first.	18 Hijos de Yishar: Selomit, el primero,

22 Eleazar died without sons, but he did have daughters, whom their cousins, the sons of Kish, married.	22 Eleazar murió sin tener hijos; sólo tuvo hijas, a las que los hijos de Quis, sus hermanos, tomaron por mujeres.

24 These were the sons of Levi by their families, the heads of families, and those registered by name,individual y; whoever was twenty years old or upwards had his function in the service of the Temple of Yahweh.	24 Estos son los hijos de Leví, según sus casas paternas, los cabezas de familia, según el censo de ellos, contados nominalmente uno por uno. Estaban encargados del servicio de la Casa de Yahveh desde la edad de veinte años en adelante.
25 For David said, 'Since Yahweh, God of Israel, has given rest to his people Israel and has taken upresidence in Jerusalem for ever,	25 Pues David había dicho: «Yahveh, el Dios de Israel, ha dado reposo a su pueblo y mora en Jerusalén para siempre.
26 the Levites need no longer carry the Dwel ing or any of the objects required for its service.'	26 Y en cuanto a los levitas, ya no tendrán que transportar la Morada, con todos los utensilios de su servicio».
27 For, according to the last words of David, the Levites who had been registered were of twenty yearsand upwards.	27 Conforme a estas últimas disposiciones de David, se hizo el cómputo de los hijos de Leví de veinte años para arriba.
28 Their duty now is to help the sons of Aaron in the service of the House of Yahweh, in the care of thecourts and rooms, the purification of al the holy things, the work for the service of the House of God,	28 Estaban a las órdenes de los hijos de Aarón, para el servicio de la Casa de Yahveh, teniendo a su cargo los atrios y las cámaras, la limpieza de todas las cosas sagradas y la obra del servicio de la Casa de Dios;
29 the loaves of permanent offering, the flour for the oblation, the wafers of unleavened bread, the pan-baked materials, the unmixed materials and all measures of volume and length.	29 asimismo tenían a su cargo disponer en filas los panes, la flor de harina para la oblación, las tortas sin levadura, lo frito en la sartén, lo cocido y toda clase de medidas de capacidad y longitud.
30 Furthermore, they have to be present every morning to give thanks and praise to Yahweh, and alsoin the evening,	30 «Tenían que estar presentes todas las mañanas y todas las tardes para celebrar y alabar a Yahveh
31 and at the bringing of every burnt offering to Yahweh on Sabbath, New Moon or solemn feast,appearing regularly before Yahweh in accordance with the numbers required of them.	31 y para ofrecer todos los holocaustos a Yahveh en los sábados, novilunios y solemnidades, según su número y su rito especial, delante de Yahveh para siempre,
32 In serving the Temple of Yahweh they observe the ritual of the Tent of Meeting, the ritual of thesanctuary and the ritual of their kinsmen, the sons of Aaron.'	32 guardando en el servicio de la Casa de Dios el ritual de la Tienda del Encuentro, el ritual del santuario y el ritual de los hijos de Aarón, sus hermanos.
