1 Naaman, army commander to the king of Aram, was a man who enjoyed his master's respect andfavour, since through him Yahweh had granted victory to the Aramaeans.	1 Naaman, capo dell'esercito del re di Siria, era un uomo grande presso il suo signore, e onorato, perchè per mezzo di lui il Signore aveva salvata la Siria; ma quest'uomo valoroso e ricco era lebbroso.
2 But the man suffered from a virulent skin-disease. Now, on one of their raids into Israelite territory, theAramaeans had carried off a little girl, who became a servant of Naaman's wife.	2 Or avendo dei predoni, usciti dalla Siria, condotta prigioniera dalla terra d'Israele una piccola fanciulla che fu addetta al servizio della moglie di Naaman,
3 She said to her mistress, 'If only my master would approach the prophet of Samaria! He would cure himof his skin-disease.'	3 questa disse alla sua signora: « Oh! se il mio signore fosse stato dal profeta che è in Samaria, certamente egli l'avrebbe guarito dalla lebbra ».
4 Naaman went and told his master. 'This and this', he reported, 'is what the girl from Israel has said.'	4 Naaman andò a riferir la cosa al suo signore, dicendogli: « Così e così ha parlato una figlia della terra d'Israele ».
5 'Go by al means,' said the king of Aram, 'I shal send a letter to the king of Israel.' So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten festal robes.	5 Il re di Siria gli disse: « Va pure, chè io manderò una lettera al re d'Israele ». Naaman partì prendendo seco dieci talenti d'argento, sei mila sicli d'oro, e dieci mute di abiti,
6 He presented the letter to the king of Israel. It read, 'With this letter, I am sending my servant Naaman toyou for you to cure him of his skin-disease.'	6 e portò al re d'Israele la lettera ov'era detto: « Quando riceverai questa lettera, sappi che ho mandato a te Naaman mio servo affinchè tu lo guarisca dalla sua lebbra ».
7 When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes. 'Am I a god to give death and life,' he said,'for him to send a man to me and ask me to cure him of his skin-disease? Listen to this and take note of it andsee how he intends to pick a quarrel with me.'	7 Il re d'Israele, letta quella lettera, stracciò le sue vesti e disse: « Son forse Dio io, da poter far morire e vivere, ch'egli mi manda un uomo, affinchè io lo guarisca dalla sua lebbra? Considerate la cosa, e vedrete che egli cerca pretesti contro di me ».
8 When Elisha heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent word to the king, 'Why have youtorn your clothes? Let him come to me, and he wil find there is a prophet in Israel.'	8 Quando Eliseo, uomo di Dio, venne a sapere che il re d'Israele aveva stracciate le sue vesti, mandò a dirgli: « Perchè tu hai stracciate le tue vesti? Venga egli da me, e saprà che v'è un profeta in Israele ».
9 So Naaman came with his team and chariot and drew up at the door of Elisha's house.	9 Naaman allora andò con i suoi cavalli e coi suoi carri, e si fermò alla porta della casa d'Eliseo.
10 And Elisha sent him a messenger to say, 'Go and bathe seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh wilbecome clean once more.'	10 Ma Eliseo mandò un messo a dirgli: « Va a lavarti per sette volte nel Giordano: la tua carne tornerà sana, e tu sarai mondato ».
11 But Naaman was indignant and went off, saying, 'Here was I, thinking he would be sure to come out tome, and stand there, and cal on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the spot and cure thepart that was diseased.	11 Naaman se ne partì sdegnato e dicendo: « Credevo ch'egli uscisse verso di me, e, stando in piedi, invocasse il nome del Signore suo Dio, e colla mano toccasse il luogo della lebbra e mi guarisse!
12 Surely, Abana and Parpar, the rivers of Damascus, are better than any water in Israel? Could I notbathe in them and become clean?' And he turned round and went off in a rage.	12 I fiumi di Damasco, l'Abana e il Farfar non son migliori di tutte le acque d'Israele, per lavarmi in esse ed esser mondato? » Or mentre egli, voltatosi, se ne andava sdegnato,
13 But his servants approached him and said, 'Father, if the prophet had asked you to do somethingdifficult, would you not have done it? Al the more reason, then, when he says to you, "Bathe, and you wilbecome clean." '	13 i suoi servi gli si accostarono e gli dissero: « Padre, se il profeta avesse chiesto una gran cosa, certamente avresti dovuto farla; e quanto più ora che ti ha detto: Lavati e sarai mondato? »
14 So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, as Elisha had told him to do. Andhis flesh became clean once more like the flesh of a little child.	14 Egli discese, e si lavò sette volte nel Giordano, secondo la parola dell'uomo di Dio, e la sua carne tornò come quella d'un piccolo fanciullo, e fu mondato.
15 Returning to Elisha with his whole escort, he went in and, presenting himself, said, 'Now I know thatthere is no God anywhere on earth except in Israel. Now, please, accept a present from your servant.'	15 Allora tornò con tutto il suo seguito dall'uomo di Dio, e, giunto che fu, si fermò davanti a lui, e disse: « Or so la verità, che non v'è altro Dio in tutta la terra, ma soltanto quello che è in Israele. Ora ti prego di accettare un dono dal tuo servo ».
16 But Elisha replied, 'As Yahweh lives, whom I serve, I wil accept nothing.' Naaman pressed him toaccept, but he refused.	16 Ma Eliseo rispose: « Viva il Signore davanti al quale io sto! Non l'accetterò ». Nonostante le pressioni di Naaman, non volle in nessun modo accettare.
17 Then Naaman said, 'Since your answer is "No," al ow your servant to be given as much earth as twomules may carry, since your servant wil no longer make burnt offerings or sacrifice to any god except Yahweh.	17 Naaman allora disse: « Come tu vuoi; ma almeno, te ne scongiuro, permetti a me tuo servo di prendere della terra, quanto ne portan due muli, perchè il tuo servo non offrirà più olocausti o vittime a dèi stranieri; ma soltanto al Signore.
18 Only -- and may Yahweh forgive your servant for this -- when my master goes to the temple of Rimmonto worship there, he leans on my arm, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon when he does; may Yahwehforgive your servant for doing this!'	18 La sola cosa per la quale tu pregherai il Signore a favore del tuo servo, si è che quando il mio signore entrerà nel tempio di Remmon, per adorare, appoggiato sulla mia mano, se io adoro nel tempio di Remmon mentre vi adora lui, il Signore perdoni tal cosa a me tuo servo ».
19 'Go in peace,' Elisha replied.	19 Eliseo gli rispose: « Va in pace ». Egli adunque partì da lui nel miglior tempo della terra.
20 Naaman had gone a smal distance, when Gehazi, Elisha's servant, said to himself, 'My master has letthis Aramaean Naaman off lightly, by not accepting what he offered. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him and getsomething out of him.'	20 Ma Giezi servo dell'uomo di Dio disse: « Il mio signore ha risparmiato questo Siro Naaman fino al punto di non accettare ciò che egli aveva portato. Viva il Signore! Gli correrò dietro, per ricevere da lui qualche cosa ».
21 So Gehazi set off in pursuit of Naaman. When Naaman saw him running after him, he jumped downfrom his chariot to meet him. 'Is all well?' he asked.	21 Giezi andò dietro a Naaman, il quale, vedutolo corrergli dietro, saltò giù dal cocchio, gli andò incontro e disse: « Non va tutto bene? »
22 'All is well,' he said. 'My master has sent me to say, "This very moment two young men of the propheticbrotherhood have arrived from the highlands of Ephraim. Be kind enough to give them a talent of silver and twofestal robes." '	22 Giezi rispose: « Ottimamente; ma il mio padrone mi ha mandato da te a dirti: Son giunti or ora a me dal monte d'Efraim due giovani dei figli dei profeti: dà loro un talento d'argento e due mute di vesti ».
23 'Please accept two talents,' Naaman replied, and pressed him, tying up the two talents of silver in twobags with the two festal robes and consigning them to two of his servants who carried them ahead of Gehazi.	23 Naaman disse: « E' meglio che tu prenda due talenti ». Dopo averlo forzato a prenderli, legò i due talenti d'argento in due sacelli con le due muto di vesti, e li pose sulle spalle di due dei suoi servi che li portarono seguiti da Giezi,
24 When he reached Ophel, he took these from them and put them away in the house. He then dismissedthe men, who went away.	24 il quale, giunta la sera, li prese dalle loro mani, e, ripostili nella sua casa, licenziò quegli uomini, che se ne andarono.
25 He, for his part, went and presented himself to his master. Elisha said, 'Gehazi, where have you been?''Your servant has not been anywhere,' he replied.	25 Egli poi andò a presentarsi al suo padrone. Ma Eliseo disse: « Donde vieni, o Giezi? » Egli rispose: « Il tuo servo non è andato in nessun posto ».
26 But Elisha said to him, 'Was not my heart present there when someone left his chariot to meet you?Now you have taken the money, you can buy gardens with it, and olive groves, sheep and oxen, male andfemale slaves.	26 E Eliseo a lui: « Il mio spirito non era forse presente quando quell'uomo ti venne incontro dal suo cocchio? Ed ora che hai ricevuto l'argento, e hai ricevute le vesti per comprare uliveti, vigne, pecore, buoi, servi e serve,
27 But Naaman's disease of the skin wil cling to you and your descendants for ever.' And Gehazi left hispresence white as snow from skin-disease.	27 s'attaccherà a te e alla tua discendenza in eterno anche la lebbra di Naaman ». Giezi partì da Eliseo con una lebbra simile alla neve.
