NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Naaman, army commander to the king of Aram, was a man who enjoyed his master's respect andfavour, since through him Yahweh had granted victory to the Aramaeans.	1 Naamân, chef de l'armée du roi d'Aram, était un homme en grande considération et faveur auprès deson maître, car c'était par lui que Yahvé avait accordé la victoire aux Araméens, mais cet homme était lépreux.
2 But the man suffered from a virulent skin-disease. Now, on one of their raids into Israelite territory, theAramaeans had carried off a little girl, who became a servant of Naaman's wife.	2 Or les Araméens, sortis en razzia, avaient enlevé du territoire d'Israël une petite fille qui était entréeau service de la femme de Naamân.
3 She said to her mistress, 'If only my master would approach the prophet of Samaria! He would cure himof his skin-disease.'	3 Elle dit à sa maîtresse: "Ah! si seulement mon maître s'adressait au prophète de Samarie! Il ledélivrerait de sa lèpre."
4 Naaman went and told his master. 'This and this', he reported, 'is what the girl from Israel has said.'	4 Naamân alla informer son seigneur: "Voilà, dit-il, de quelle et quelle manière a parlé la jeune fille quivient du pays d'Israël."
5 'Go by al means,' said the king of Aram, 'I shal send a letter to the king of Israel.' So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten festal robes.	5 Le roi d'Aram répondit: "Pars donc, je vais envoyer une lettre au roi d'Israël." Naamân partit, prenantavec lui dix talents d'argent, 6.000 sicles d'or et dix habits de fête.
6 He presented the letter to the king of Israel. It read, 'With this letter, I am sending my servant Naaman toyou for you to cure him of his skin-disease.'	6 Il présenta au roi d'Israël la lettre, ainsi conçue: "En même temps que te parvient cette lettre, jet'envoie mon serviteur Naamân, pour que tu le délivres de sa lèpre."
7 When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes. 'Am I a god to give death and life,' he said,'for him to send a man to me and ask me to cure him of his skin-disease? Listen to this and take note of it andsee how he intends to pick a quarrel with me.'	7 A la lecture de la lettre, le roi d'Israël déchira ses vêtements et dit: "Suis-je un dieu qui puisse donnerla mort et la vie, pour que celui-là me mande de délivrer quelqu'un de sa lèpre? Pour sûr, rendez-vous biencompte qu'il me cherche querelle!"
8 When Elisha heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent word to the king, 'Why have youtorn your clothes? Let him come to me, and he wil find there is a prophet in Israel.'	8 Mais quand Elisée apprit que le roi d'Israël avait déchiré ses vêtements, il fit dire au roi: "Pourquoias-tu déchiré tes vêtements? Qu'il vienne donc vers moi, et il saura qu'il y a un prophète en Israël."
9 So Naaman came with his team and chariot and drew up at the door of Elisha's house.	9 Naamân arriva avec son attelage et son char et s'arrêta à la porte de la maison d'Elisée,
10 And Elisha sent him a messenger to say, 'Go and bathe seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh wilbecome clean once more.'	10 et Elisée envoya un messager lui dire: "Va te baigner sept fois dans le Jourdain, ta chair redeviendranette."
11 But Naaman was indignant and went off, saying, 'Here was I, thinking he would be sure to come out tome, and stand there, and cal on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the spot and cure thepart that was diseased.	11 Naamân, irrité, s'en alla en disant: "Je m'étais dit: Sûrement il sortira et se présentera lui-même, puisil invoquera le nom de Yahvé son Dieu, il agitera la main sur l'endroit malade et délivrera la partie lépreuse.
12 Surely, Abana and Parpar, the rivers of Damascus, are better than any water in Israel? Could I notbathe in them and become clean?' And he turned round and went off in a rage.	12 Est-ce que les fleuves de Damas, l'Abana et le Parpar, ne valent pas mieux que toutes les eauxd'Israël? Ne pourrais-je pas m'y baigner pour être purifié?" Il tourna bride et partit en colère.
13 But his servants approached him and said, 'Father, if the prophet had asked you to do somethingdifficult, would you not have done it? Al the more reason, then, when he says to you, "Bathe, and you wilbecome clean." '	13 Mais ses serviteurs s'approchèrent et s'adressèrent à lui en ces termes: "Mon père! Si le prophètet'avait prescrit quelque chose de difficile, ne l'aurais-tu pas fait? Combien plus, lorsqu'il te dit: "Baigne-toi et tuseras purifié."
14 So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, as Elisha had told him to do. Andhis flesh became clean once more like the flesh of a little child.	14 Il descendit donc et se plongea sept fois dans le Jourdain, selon la parole d'Elisée: sa chair redevintnette comme la chair d'un petit enfant.
15 Returning to Elisha with his whole escort, he went in and, presenting himself, said, 'Now I know thatthere is no God anywhere on earth except in Israel. Now, please, accept a present from your servant.'	15 Il revint chez Elisée avec toute son escorte, il entra, se présenta devant lui et dit: "Oui, je saisdésormais qu'il n'y a pas de Dieu par toute la terre sauf en Israël! Maintenant, accepte, je te prie, un présent deton serviteur."
16 But Elisha replied, 'As Yahweh lives, whom I serve, I wil accept nothing.' Naaman pressed him toaccept, but he refused.	16 Mais Elisée répondit: "Aussi vrai qu'est vivant Yahvé que je sers, je n'accepterai rien." Naamân lepressa d'accepter, mais il refusa.
17 Then Naaman said, 'Since your answer is "No," al ow your servant to be given as much earth as twomules may carry, since your servant wil no longer make burnt offerings or sacrifice to any god except Yahweh.	17 Alors Naamân dit: "Puisque c'est non, permets qu'on donne à ton serviteur de quoi charger de terredeux mulets, car ton serviteur n'offrira plus ni holocauste ni sacrifice à d'autres dieux qu'à Yahvé.
18 Only -- and may Yahweh forgive your servant for this -- when my master goes to the temple of Rimmonto worship there, he leans on my arm, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon when he does; may Yahwehforgive your servant for doing this!'	18 Seulement, que Yahvé pardonne ceci à ton serviteur: quand mon maître va au temple de Rimmônpour y adorer, il s'appuie sur mon bras et je me prosterne dans le temple de Rimmôn en même temps qu'il le fait;veuille Yahvé pardonner cette action à son serviteur!"
19 'Go in peace,' Elisha replied.	19 Elisée lui répondit: "Va en paix", et Naamân s'éloigna un bout de chemin.
20 Naaman had gone a smal distance, when Gehazi, Elisha's servant, said to himself, 'My master has letthis Aramaean Naaman off lightly, by not accepting what he offered. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him and getsomething out of him.'	20 Géhazi, le serviteur d'Elisée, se dit: "Mon maître a ménagé Naamân, cet Araméen, en n'acceptantpas de lui ce qu'il avait offert. Aussi vrai que Yahvé est vivant, je cours après lui et j'en obtiendrai quelquechose."
21 So Gehazi set off in pursuit of Naaman. When Naaman saw him running after him, he jumped downfrom his chariot to meet him. 'Is all well?' he asked.	21 Et Géhazi se lança à la poursuite de Naamân. Lorsque Naamân le vit courir derrière lui, il sauta deson char à sa rencontre et demanda: "Cela va-t-il bien?"
22 'All is well,' he said. 'My master has sent me to say, "This very moment two young men of the propheticbrotherhood have arrived from the highlands of Ephraim. Be kind enough to give them a talent of silver and twofestal robes." '	22 Il répondit: "Bien. Mon maître m'a envoyé te dire: A l'instant m'arrivent deux jeunes gens de lamontagne d'Ephraïm, des frères prophètes. Donne pour eux, je te prie, un talent d'argent et deux habits de fête."
23 'Please accept two talents,' Naaman replied, and pressed him, tying up the two talents of silver in twobags with the two festal robes and consigning them to two of his servants who carried them ahead of Gehazi.	23 Naamân dit: "Veuille accepter deux talents", et il insista; il lia les deux talents d'argent dans deuxsacs, avec les deux habits de fête, et les remit à deux de ses serviteurs qui les portèrent devant Géhazi.
24 When he reached Ophel, he took these from them and put them away in the house. He then dismissedthe men, who went away.	24 Quand il arriva à l'Ophel, il les prit de leurs mains et les déposa dans la maison; puis il congédia leshommes, qui s'en allèrent.
25 He, for his part, went and presented himself to his master. Elisha said, 'Gehazi, where have you been?''Your servant has not been anywhere,' he replied.	25 Quant à lui, il vint se tenir près de son maître. Elisée lui demanda: "D'où viens-tu, Géhazi?" Ilrépondit: "Ton serviteur n'est allé nulle part."
26 But Elisha said to him, 'Was not my heart present there when someone left his chariot to meet you?Now you have taken the money, you can buy gardens with it, and olive groves, sheep and oxen, male andfemale slaves.	26 Mais Elisée lui dit: "Mon coeur n'était-il pas présent lorsque quelqu'un a quitté son char à tarencontre? Maintenant tu as reçu l'argent, et tu peux acheter avec cela jardins, oliviers et vignes, petit et grosbétail, serviteurs et servantes.
27 But Naaman's disease of the skin wil cling to you and your descendants for ever.' And Gehazi left hispresence white as snow from skin-disease.	27 Mais la lèpre de Naamân s'attachera à toi et à ta postérité pour toujours." Et Géhazi s'éloigna de luiblanc de lèpre comme la neige.
