NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Naaman, army commander to the king of Aram, was a man who enjoyed his master's respect andfavour, since through him Yahweh had granted victory to the Aramaeans.	1 Naamán, general del ejército del rey de Aram, era un hombre prestigioso y altamente estimado por su señor, porque gracias a él, el Señor había dado la victoria a Aram. Pero este hombre, guerrero valeroso, padecía de una enfermedad en la piel.
2 But the man suffered from a virulent skin-disease. Now, on one of their raids into Israelite territory, theAramaeans had carried off a little girl, who became a servant of Naaman's wife.	2 En una de sus incursiones, los arameos se habían llevado cautiva del país de Israel a una niña, que fue puesta al servicio de la mujer de Naamán.
3 She said to her mistress, 'If only my master would approach the prophet of Samaria! He would cure himof his skin-disease.'	3 Ella dijo entonces a su patrona: «¡Ojalá mi señor se presentara ante el profeta que está en Samaría! Seguramente, él lo libraría de su enfermedad».
4 Naaman went and told his master. 'This and this', he reported, 'is what the girl from Israel has said.'	4 Naamán fue y le contó a su señor: «La niña del país de Israel ha dicho esto y esto».
5 'Go by al means,' said the king of Aram, 'I shal send a letter to the king of Israel.' So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten festal robes.	5 El rey de Aram respondió: «Está bien, ve, y yo enviaré una carta al rey de Israel». Naamán partió llevando consigo diez talentos de plata, seis mil siclos de oro y diez trajes de gala,
6 He presented the letter to the king of Israel. It read, 'With this letter, I am sending my servant Naaman toyou for you to cure him of his skin-disease.'	6 y presentó al rey de Israel la carta que decía: «Al mismo tiempo que te llega esta carta, te envío a Naamán, mi servidor, para que lo libres de su enfermedad».
7 When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes. 'Am I a god to give death and life,' he said,'for him to send a man to me and ask me to cure him of his skin-disease? Listen to this and take note of it andsee how he intends to pick a quarrel with me.'	7 Apenas el rey de Israel leyó la carta, rasgó sus vestiduras y dijo: «¿Acaso yo soy Dios, capaz de hacer morir y vivir, para que este me mande librar a un hombre de su enfermedad? Fíjense bien y verán que él está buscando un pretexto contra mí».
8 When Elisha heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent word to the king, 'Why have youtorn your clothes? Let him come to me, and he wil find there is a prophet in Israel.'	8 Cuando Eliseo, el hombre de Dios, oyó que el rey de Israel había rasgado sus vestiduras, mandó a decir al rey: «¿Por qué has rasgado tus vestiduras? Que él venga a mí y sabrá que hay un profeta en Israel».
9 So Naaman came with his team and chariot and drew up at the door of Elisha's house.	9 Naamán llegó entonces con sus caballos y su carruaje, y se detuvo a la puerta de la casa de Eliseo.
10 And Elisha sent him a messenger to say, 'Go and bathe seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh wilbecome clean once more.'	10 Eliseo mandó un mensajero para que le dijera: «Ve a bañarte siete veces en el Jordán; tu carne se restablecerá y quedarás limpio».
11 But Naaman was indignant and went off, saying, 'Here was I, thinking he would be sure to come out tome, and stand there, and cal on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the spot and cure thepart that was diseased.	11 Pero Naamán, muy irritado, se fue diciendo: «Yo me había imaginado que saldría él personalmente, se pondría de pie e invocaría el nombre del Señor, su Dios; luego pasaría su mano sobre la parte afectada y curaría al enfermo de la piel.
12 Surely, Abana and Parpar, the rivers of Damascus, are better than any water in Israel? Could I notbathe in them and become clean?' And he turned round and went off in a rage.	12 ¿Acaso los ríos de Damasco, el Abaná y el Parpar, no valen más que todas las aguas de Israel? ¿No podía yo bañarme en ellos y quedar limpio?». Y dando media vuelta, se fue muy enojado.
13 But his servants approached him and said, 'Father, if the prophet had asked you to do somethingdifficult, would you not have done it? Al the more reason, then, when he says to you, "Bathe, and you wilbecome clean." '	13 Pero sus servidores se acercaron para decirle: «Padre, si el profeta te hubiera mandado una cosa extraordinaria ¿no la habrías dicho? ¡Cuánto más si él te dice simplemente: Báñate y quedarás limpio!».
14 So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, as Elisha had told him to do. Andhis flesh became clean once more like the flesh of a little child.	14 Entonces bajó y se sumergió siete veces en el Jordán, conforme a la palabra del hombre de Dios; así su carne se volvió como la de un muchacho joven y quedó limpio.
15 Returning to Elisha with his whole escort, he went in and, presenting himself, said, 'Now I know thatthere is no God anywhere on earth except in Israel. Now, please, accept a present from your servant.'	15 Luego volvió con toda su comitiva adonde estaba el hombre de Dios. Al llegar, se presentó delante de él y le dijo: «Ahora reconozco que no hay Dios en toda la tierra, a no ser en Israel. Acepta, te lo ruego, un presente de tu servidor».
16 But Elisha replied, 'As Yahweh lives, whom I serve, I wil accept nothing.' Naaman pressed him toaccept, but he refused.	16 Pero Eliseo replicó: «Por la vida del Señor, a quien sirvo, no aceptaré nada». Naamán le insistió para que aceptara, pero él se negó.
17 Then Naaman said, 'Since your answer is "No," al ow your servant to be given as much earth as twomules may carry, since your servant wil no longer make burnt offerings or sacrifice to any god except Yahweh.	17 Naamán dijo entonces: «De acuerdo; pero permite al menos que le den a tu servidor un poco de esta tierra, la carga de dos mulas, porque tu servidor no ofrecerá holocaustos ni sacrificios a otros dioses, fuera del Señor.
18 Only -- and may Yahweh forgive your servant for this -- when my master goes to the temple of Rimmonto worship there, he leans on my arm, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon when he does; may Yahwehforgive your servant for doing this!'	18 Y que el Señor perdone a tu servidor este gesto: cuando mi señor entra en el templo de Rimón para postrarse y se apoya en mi brazo, yo también me postro en el templo de Rimón. Así, cuando yo me postre en el templo de Rimón, que el Señor se digne perdonar este gesto a tu servidor».
19 'Go in peace,' Elisha replied.	19 Eliseo le respondió: «Vete en paz».
20 Naaman had gone a smal distance, when Gehazi, Elisha's servant, said to himself, 'My master has letthis Aramaean Naaman off lightly, by not accepting what he offered. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him and getsomething out of him.'	20 Guejazí, servidor de Eliseo, el hombre de Dios, pensó: «Mi señor se ha mostrado demasiado desprendido con ese arameo Naamán, al rehusar los presentes que había traído. Por la vida del Señor, voy a correr detrás de él a ver si le saco alguna cosa».
21 So Gehazi set off in pursuit of Naaman. When Naaman saw him running after him, he jumped downfrom his chariot to meet him. 'Is all well?' he asked.	21 Guejazí se lanzó detrás de Naamán, y cuando este vio que corría detrás de él, salió de su carruaje para ir a su encuentro y le dijo: «¿Pasa algo?».
22 'All is well,' he said. 'My master has sent me to say, "This very moment two young men of the propheticbrotherhood have arrived from the highlands of Ephraim. Be kind enough to give them a talent of silver and twofestal robes." '	22 «No, respondió él; pero mi señor te manda decir: Hace apenas un momento vinieron a verme dos muchachos de la montaña de Efraím, de la comunidad de profetas. Te ruego que me des para ellos un talento de plata y dos mudas de ropa».
23 'Please accept two talents,' Naaman replied, and pressed him, tying up the two talents of silver in twobags with the two festal robes and consigning them to two of his servants who carried them ahead of Gehazi.	23 Naamán dijo: «Toma más bien dos talentos». Y le insistió hasta que metió en dos bolsas dos talentos de plata y dos mudas de ropa, que entregó a sus servidores para que los llevaran delante de Guejazí.
24 When he reached Ophel, he took these from them and put them away in the house. He then dismissedthe men, who went away.	24 Al llegar a Ofel, Guejazí recogió todo y lo depositó en su casa. Luego despidió a los dos hombres, y ellos se fueron.

26 But Elisha said to him, 'Was not my heart present there when someone left his chariot to meet you?Now you have taken the money, you can buy gardens with it, and olive groves, sheep and oxen, male andfemale slaves.	26 Pero Eliseo le replicó: «¿No estaba allí mi espíritu cuando un hombre descendió de su carruaje para ir a tu encuentro? 27 But Naaman's disease of the skin wil cling to you and your descendants for ever.'
