NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Naaman, army commander to the king of Aram, was a man who enjoyed his master's respect andfavour, since through him Yahweh had granted victory to the Aramaeans.	1 Naaman, comandante dell'esercito del re di Aram, era un uomo molto influente e stimato presso il suo signore, perché per mezzo suo il Signore aveva accordato la salvezza ad Aram. Ora quest'uomo tanto valoroso era lebbroso.
2 But the man suffered from a virulent skin-disease. Now, on one of their raids into Israelite territory, theAramaeans had carried off a little girl, who became a servant of Naaman's wife.	2 Gli Aramei, usciti a fare una razzia, rapirono dal paese d'Israele una ragazzina, la quale passò al servizio della moglie di Naaman.
3 She said to her mistress, 'If only my master would approach the prophet of Samaria! He would cure himof his skin-disease.'	3 Essa disse alla sua signora: "Se il mio signore si rivolgesse al profeta che c'è in Samaria, certamente egli lo libererebbe dalla lebbra!".
4 Naaman went and told his master. 'This and this', he reported, 'is what the girl from Israel has said.'	4 Naaman andò ad informare il suo signore dicendo: "La fanciulla della terra d'Israele ha detto così e così".
5 'Go by al means,' said the king of Aram, 'I shal send a letter to the king of Israel.' So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten festal robes.	5 Il re di Aram rispose: "Va' pure; io stesso invierò una lettera al re d'Israele". Quegli se ne andò dopo aver preso con sé dieci talenti d'argento, seimila sicli d'oro e dieci cambi di vesti.
6 He presented the letter to the king of Israel. It read, 'With this letter, I am sending my servant Naaman toyou for you to cure him of his skin-disease.'	6 Presentò al re d'Israele la lettera che diceva: "Nello stesso tempo in cui ti giungerà questa lettera, io t'invio il mio servo Naaman, perché lo guarisca dalla lebbra".
7 When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes. 'Am I a god to give death and life,' he said,'for him to send a man to me and ask me to cure him of his skin-disease? Listen to this and take note of it andsee how he intends to pick a quarrel with me.'	7 Letta che ebbe la lettera, il re d'Israele si stracciò le vesti ed esclamò: "Sono io forse Dio che posso far morire e vivere, dal momento che costui mi manda uno perché lo guarisca dalla lebbra? Considerate bene e vedrete che costui sta cercando l'occasione per nuocermi".
8 When Elisha heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent word to the king, 'Why have youtorn your clothes? Let him come to me, and he wil find there is a prophet in Israel.'	8 Quando Eliseo, l'uomo di Dio, ebbe udito che il re d'Israele s'era stracciato le vesti, gli mandò a dire: "Perché ti sei stracciato le vesti? Venga pure da me e saprà che v'è un profeta in Israele".
9 So Naaman came with his team and chariot and drew up at the door of Elisha's house.	9 Naaman venne con i suoi cavalli e il suo cocchio e si fermò davanti alla porta della casa di Eliseo.
10 And Elisha sent him a messenger to say, 'Go and bathe seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh wilbecome clean once more.'	10 Allora Eliseo gli mandò un messaggero che gli dicesse: "Va' a bagnarti sette volte nel Giordano e la tua carne ritornerà come prima e sarai purificato".
11 But Naaman was indignant and went off, saying, 'Here was I, thinking he would be sure to come out tome, and stand there, and cal on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the spot and cure thepart that was diseased.	11 Naaman si adirò e se ne andò dicendo: "Ecco, io m'ero detto: "Certamente egli uscirà, mi starà davanti e invocherà il nome del Signore Dio suo, agitando la mano sulla parte infetta e mi libererà dalla lebbra".
12 Surely, Abana and Parpar, the rivers of Damascus, are better than any water in Israel? Could I notbathe in them and become clean?' And he turned round and went off in a rage.	12 I fiumi di Damasco, l'Abana e il Parpar, non sono forse migliori di tutte le acque d'Israele? Se mi bagnassi in essi, non sarei forse purificato?". Si voltò e se ne andò tutto infuriato.
13 But his servants approached him and said, 'Father, if the prophet had asked you to do somethingdifficult, would you not have done it? Al the more reason, then, when he says to you, "Bathe, and you wilbecome clean." '	13 I suoi servi però gli vennero vicino e gli dissero: "Padre mio! Se il profeta ti avesse ordinato una cosa difficile, non l'avresti forse eseguita? A maggior ragione ora che ti ha detto: "Bagnati e sarai purificato".
14 So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, as Elisha had told him to do. Andhis flesh became clean once more like the flesh of a little child.	14 Allora egli discese e si immerse sette volte nel Giordano, secondo la parola dell'uomo di Dio: la sua carne tornò come quella di un ragazzino e fu purificato.
15 Returning to Elisha with his whole escort, he went in and, presenting himself, said, 'Now I know thatthere is no God anywhere on earth except in Israel. Now, please, accept a present from your servant.'	15 Ritornò poi dall'uomo di Dio con tutto il suo seguito, entrò, gli stette davanti e disse: "Ecco, io so che in tutta la terra non v'è Dio se non in Israele! Ora, accetta un regalo dal tuo servo".
16 But Elisha replied, 'As Yahweh lives, whom I serve, I wil accept nothing.' Naaman pressed him toaccept, but he refused.	16 Egli rispose: "Per il Signore vivente, ch'io servo, non l'accetterò!". Quegli insistette perché accettasse, ma egli rifiutò.
17 Then Naaman said, 'Since your answer is "No," al ow your servant to be given as much earth as twomules may carry, since your servant wil no longer make burnt offerings or sacrifice to any god except Yahweh.	17 Allora Naaman disse: "Poiché non vuoi, acconsenti che sia data al tuo servo la terra che può essere caricata su due muli, perché il tuo servo non offrirà più olocausti e sacrifici ad altri dèi tranne che al Signore.
18 Only -- and may Yahweh forgive your servant for this -- when my master goes to the temple of Rimmonto worship there, he leans on my arm, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon when he does; may Yahwehforgive your servant for doing this!'	18 Il Signore però perdoni il tuo servo per questa azione: quando il mio signore si recherà al tempio di Rimmon per farvi adorazione, si appoggerà al mio braccio e io mi prostrerò nel tempio di Rimmon mentre egli si prostra. Voglia il Signore perdonare il tuo servo per quest'azione".
19 'Go in peace,' Elisha replied.	19 Il profeta gli rispose: "Va' in pace!". Quegli si allontanò per un buon tratto di cammino.
20 Naaman had gone a smal distance, when Gehazi, Elisha's servant, said to himself, 'My master has letthis Aramaean Naaman off lightly, by not accepting what he offered. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him and getsomething out of him.'	20 Giezi, servo di Eliseo, uomo di Dio, disse tra sé: "Ecco, il mio signore ha avuto riguardo per questo Naaman arameo, rifiutandosi di prendere dalla sua mano quanto gli aveva portato. Com'è vero che vive il Signore, gli correrò dietro e certamente prenderò da lui qualcosa".
21 So Gehazi set off in pursuit of Naaman. When Naaman saw him running after him, he jumped downfrom his chariot to meet him. 'Is all well?' he asked.	21 Difatti Giezi si mise ad inseguire Naaman. Quando questi lo vide corrergli dietro saltò giù dal cocchio per andargli incontro e gli domandò: "Va tutto bene?".
22 'All is well,' he said. 'My master has sent me to say, "This very moment two young men of the propheticbrotherhood have arrived from the highlands of Ephraim. Be kind enough to give them a talent of silver and twofestal robes." '	22 Quegli rispose: "Tutto bene! Il mio signore mi manda a dirti: "Ecco in questo momento sono venuti da me dalla montagna di Efraim due giovani dei discepoli dei profeti; dammi per loro un talento d'argento e due mute d'abiti".
23 'Please accept two talents,' Naaman replied, and pressed him, tying up the two talents of silver in twobags with the two festal robes and consigning them to two of his servants who carried them ahead of Gehazi.	23 Naaman disse: "Fammi il piacere: prendi due talenti". Dopo un po' d'insistenza, legò in due sacchi i due talenti d'argento con le due mute di abiti e li diede a due servi che li portarono davanti a Giezi.
24 When he reached Ophel, he took these from them and put them away in the house. He then dismissedthe men, who went away.	24 Giunto sulla collina, egli li prese dalle loro mani e li depositò nella casa; poi rimandò gli uomini che se ne andarono.
25 He, for his part, went and presented himself to his master. Elisha said, 'Gehazi, where have you been?''Your servant has not been anywhere,' he replied.	25 Andò quindi a presentarsi al suo signore che gli domandò: "Donde vieni, Giezi?". Quegli rispose: "Il tuo servo non è andato in nessun luogo".
26 But Elisha said to him, 'Was not my heart present there when someone left his chariot to meet you?Now you have taken the money, you can buy gardens with it, and olive groves, sheep and oxen, male andfemale slaves.	26 L'altro replicò: "Forse che il mio spirito non era presente quando un uomo è disceso dal suo cocchio per venirti incontro? Ora che hai ricevuto il denaro, puoi comprarti giardini, oliveti e vigne, pecore e buoi, schiavi e schiave!
27 But Naaman's disease of the skin wil cling to you and your descendants for ever.' And Gehazi left hispresence white as snow from skin-disease.	27 Ma la lebbra di Naaman si attaccherà a te e alla tua discendenza per sempre". Quegli uscì dalla sua presenza, bianco di lebbra come la neve.
