1 Naaman, army commander to the king of Aram, was a man who enjoyed his master's respect andfavour, since through him Yahweh had granted victory to the Aramaeans.	1 - Naaman capo dell'esercito del re di Siria, era uomo di grande autorità presso il suo signore e tenuto in molta considerazione, poichè per mezzo suo il Signore aveva salvata la Siria. Era anche uomo forte e ricco, ma lebbroso.
2 But the man suffered from a virulent skin-disease. Now, on one of their raids into Israelite territory, theAramaeans had carried off a little girl, who became a servant of Naaman's wife.	2 Ora dalla Siria erano usciti dei predoni e avevano condotta prigioniera della terra d'Israele una piccola fanciulla, che stava al servizio della moglie di Naaman.
3 She said to her mistress, 'If only my master would approach the prophet of Samaria! He would cure himof his skin-disease.'	3 Costei disse alla sua padrona: «Oh, se il mio padrone andasse dal profeta che è in Samaria, senza dubbio sarebbe guarito dalla lebbra che ha!».
4 Naaman went and told his master. 'This and this', he reported, 'is what the girl from Israel has said.'	4 Naaman allora si portò dal suo signore e gli disse: «Così e così ha parlato una fanciulla della terra d'Israele».
5 'Go by al means,' said the king of Aram, 'I shal send a letter to the king of Israel.' So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten festal robes.	5 Il re della Siria gli rispose: «Va', ed io manderò una lettera al re d'Israele». Naaman se ne partì e prese seco dieci talenti d'argento e seimila sicli d'oro e dieci mute di vestiti;
6 He presented the letter to the king of Israel. It read, 'With this letter, I am sending my servant Naaman toyou for you to cure him of his skin-disease.'	6 e portò al re d'Israele la lettera concepita in questi termini: «Quando riceverai questa lettera, sappi che ho mandato a te Naaman, mio servo, affinchè procuri di guarirlo dalla sua lebbra».
7 When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes. 'Am I a god to give death and life,' he said,'for him to send a man to me and ask me to cure him of his skin-disease? Listen to this and take note of it andsee how he intends to pick a quarrel with me.'	7 Quando il re d'Israele ebbe letta questa lettera, si stracciò le vesti e disse: «Son io forse Dio, da poter uccidere e ridonare la vita, per indirizzare a me quest'uomo, affinchè lo guarisca dalla sua lebbra? Ponete ben mente e vedete che costui cerca pretesti contro di me».
8 When Elisha heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent word to the king, 'Why have youtorn your clothes? Let him come to me, and he wil find there is a prophet in Israel.'	8 Avendo Eliseo, l'uomo di Dio, udito ciò, che cioè il re si era stracciato le vesti, mandò a dirgli: «Perchè ti sei stracciato le vesti? Venga egli da me e saprà che vi è un profeta in Israele».
9 So Naaman came with his team and chariot and drew up at the door of Elisha's house.	9 Naaman dunque venne coi cavalli e coi carri e si fermò alla porta della casa di Eliseo;
10 And Elisha sent him a messenger to say, 'Go and bathe seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh wilbecome clean once more.'	10 ed Eliseo gli mandò un messo a dirgli: «Va', lavati sette volte nel Giordano e la tua carne riacquisterà la sanità e tu sarai mondato».
11 But Naaman was indignant and went off, saying, 'Here was I, thinking he would be sure to come out tome, and stand there, and cal on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the spot and cure thepart that was diseased.	11 Naaman, sdegnato, se ne andava, dicendo: «Io pensavo che egli sarebbe uscito incontro a me e stando in piedi avrebbe invocato il nome del Signore Dio suo, e avrebbe toccato con la sua mano il luogo della lebbra, e mi avrebbe curato.
12 Surely, Abana and Parpar, the rivers of Damascus, are better than any water in Israel? Could I notbathe in them and become clean?' And he turned round and went off in a rage.	12 Forse non sono migliori i fiumi di Damasco, l'Abana, e il Farfar, di tutte le acque d'Israele, perchè io m'abbia a lavare in esse ed essere mondato?». Mentre adunque si era voltato per andarsene pieno di collera,
13 But his servants approached him and said, 'Father, if the prophet had asked you to do somethingdifficult, would you not have done it? Al the more reason, then, when he says to you, "Bathe, and you wilbecome clean." '	13 gli si accostarono i suoi servi e gli dissero: «Padre, se il profeta ti avesse ordinato di fare qualsiasi cosa difficile, tu senza dubbio l'avresti fatta; quanto più ora che ti ha detto: - Lavati e sarai mondato -?».
14 So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, as Elisha had told him to do. Andhis flesh became clean once more like the flesh of a little child.	14 Discese quindi e si lavò nel Giordano sette volte, secondo la parola dell'uomo di Dio, e la sua carne divenne la carne di un fanciullo, e fu mondato.
15 Returning to Elisha with his whole escort, he went in and, presenting himself, said, 'Now I know thatthere is no God anywhere on earth except in Israel. Now, please, accept a present from your servant.'	15 Ritornato poi dall'uomo di Dio con tutto il seguito, venne alla presenza di lui e disse: «Veramente capisco che non vi è altro Dio su tutta la terra all'infuori del Dio d'Israele. Ed ora, te ne prego, accetta un regalo dal tuo servo».
16 But Elisha replied, 'As Yahweh lives, whom I serve, I wil accept nothing.' Naaman pressed him toaccept, but he refused.	16 Ma egli rispose: «Viva il Signore innanzi al quale io sto! io non accetterò nulla». E benchè Naaman lo sforzasse egli non volle assolutamente piegarsi.
17 Then Naaman said, 'Since your answer is "No," al ow your servant to be given as much earth as twomules may carry, since your servant wil no longer make burnt offerings or sacrifice to any god except Yahweh.	17 Disse allora Naaman: «Sia come vuoi, ma, ti prego, permetti a me tuo servo di prendere tanta terra quanta ne portano due muli, poichè il tuo servo non offrirà più olocausti o vittime agli dèi stranieri, ma solo al Signore.
18 Only -- and may Yahweh forgive your servant for this -- when my master goes to the temple of Rimmonto worship there, he leans on my arm, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon when he does; may Yahwehforgive your servant for doing this!'	18 Questa sola cosa tu domanderai pel servo tuo al Signore, che quando il mio padrone entrerà nel tempio di Remmon per adorarlo e si appoggerà alla mia mano, se io adorerò nel tempio di Remmon nell'atto in cui egli adorerà in quello stesso luogo, il Signore perdoni a me suo servo per questa cosa».
19 'Go in peace,' Elisha replied.	19 Eliseo gli disse: «Va' in pace». Egli adunque se ne partì da lui nella migliore stagione dell'anno.
20 Naaman had gone a smal distance, when Gehazi, Elisha's servant, said to himself, 'My master has letthis Aramaean Naaman off lightly, by not accepting what he offered. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him and getsomething out of him.'	20 Giezi, il servo dell'uomo di Dio, disse: «Il mio signore fu troppo indulgente con questo Naaman Siro, non accettando da lui quello che gli aveva portato. Viva il Signore! io gli correrò dietro e mi farò dare qualche cosa da lui».
21 So Gehazi set off in pursuit of Naaman. When Naaman saw him running after him, he jumped downfrom his chariot to meet him. 'Is all well?' he asked.	21 E Giezi corse dietro a Naaman, il quale, vedendo che gli correva dietro, discese dal carro, gli mosse incontro e chiese: «Va bene tutto?».
22 'All is well,' he said. 'My master has sent me to say, "This very moment two young men of the propheticbrotherhood have arrived from the highlands of Ephraim. Be kind enough to give them a talent of silver and twofestal robes." '	22 Ed egli rispose: «Benissimo. Il mio padrone mi manda a dirti: - Son venuti da me dal monte di Efraim due giovani dei figli di profeti; dà loro un talento d'argento e due mute di vesti -».
23 'Please accept two talents,' Naaman replied, and pressed him, tying up the two talents of silver in twobags with the two festal robes and consigning them to two of his servants who carried them ahead of Gehazi.	23 Gli rispose Naaman: «È meglio che tu prenda due talenti», e l'obbligò e legò due talenti d'argento in due sacchi e diede le due mute di vesti e ne caricò due suoi servi che li portarono dinanzi a lui.
24 When he reached Ophel, he took these from them and put them away in the house. He then dismissedthe men, who went away.	24 Essendo già sera quando arrivarono, Giezi prese il tutto dalle loro mani e se lo mise in casa e congedò i due uomini, i quali se ne andarono.
25 He, for his part, went and presented himself to his master. Elisha said, 'Gehazi, where have you been?''Your servant has not been anywhere,' he replied.	25 Egli poi entrato, si presentò al suo padrone. Eliseo gli domandò: «Donde vieni, o Giezi?». Questi rispose: «Il tuo servo non è andato in verun luogo».
26 But Elisha said to him, 'Was not my heart present there when someone left his chariot to meet you?Now you have taken the money, you can buy gardens with it, and olive groves, sheep and oxen, male andfemale slaves.	26 Ma Eliseo gli disse: «Non era forse presente il mio spirito allorchè quell'uomo ha lasciato il suo carro per venirti incontro? Tu ora dunque hai ricevuto dell'argento e hai ricevuto delle vesti per comperarti oliveti e vigne, pecore e buoi, servi e ancelle;
27 But Naaman's disease of the skin wil cling to you and your descendants for ever.' And Gehazi left hispresence white as snow from skin-disease.	27 ma anche la lebbra di Naaman s'attaccherà a te, e alla tua discendenza in perpetuo!». E Giezi uscì di là, lebbroso [bianco] come la neve.
