Genesis 15

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Some time later, the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram! I am yourshield and shal give you a very great reward.	1 Dopo queste cose, il Signore parlò ad Abramo in visione e gli disset «Non temere, Abramo, io sono il tuo protettore e la tua ricompensa oltremodo grande ».
2 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'what use are your gifts, as I am going on my way childless? . . .	2 E Abramo disse: «Signore Dio, che mi darai tu? Io me ne andrò senza figli, e questo Eliezer di Damasco è il figlio del procuratore della mia casa ».
3 Since you have given me no offspring,' Abram continued, 'a member of my household will be my heir.'	3 Poi Abramo soggiunse: « Tu non m'hai dato figli; ed ecco, un servo di casa mia sarà mio erede ».
4 Then Yahweh's word came to him in reply, 'Such a one wil not be your heir; no, your heir will be theissue of your own body.'	4 E subito il Signore gli rivolse la parola e disse: «Non lui sarà tuo erede, ma colui che uscirà dal tuo seno sarà tuo erede ».
5 Then taking him outside, he said, 'Look up at the sky and count the stars if you can. Just so wil yourdescendants be,' he told him.	5 Poi lo condusse all'aperto, e gli disse: «Mira il cielo e conta le stelle, se ti riesce ». E soggiunse: « Così sarà la tua discendenza ».
6 Abram put his faith in Yahweh and this was reckoned to him as uprightness.	6 Abramo credette a Dio e gli fu imputato a giustizia.
7 He then said to him, 'I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldaeans to give you thiscountry as your possession.'	7 E il Signore gli disse: « Io sono il Signore che ti trassi da Ur dei Caldei, per darti il possesso di questo paese ».
8 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'how can I know that I shal possess it?'	8 E Abramo rispose: « Signore Dio, da che potrò conoscere che ne avrò il possesso? »
9 He said to him, 'Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old she-goat, a three-year-old ram, aturtledove and a young pigeon.'	9 E il Signore rispose: « Prendimi una giovenca di tre anni, una capra di tre anni, un ariete di tre anni, una tortora e una colomba ».
10 He brought him all these, split the animals down the middle and placed each half opposite the other;but the birds he did not divide.	10 E Abramo prese tutti questi animali, e dopo averli divisi pel mezzo, pose le due parti l'una dirimpetto all'altra, ma non divise gli uccelli.
11 And whenever birds of prey swooped down on the carcases, Abram drove them off.	11 Ma degli uccelli rapaci calavano sulle bestie morte, e Abramo li scacciava.
12 Now, as the sun was on the point of setting, a trance fel on Abram, and a deep dark dreaddescended on him.	12 Or sul tramontar del sole Abramo fu preso da un profondo sonno, e grande e tenebroso spavento lo invase.
13 Then Yahweh said to Abram, 'Know this for certain, that your descendants will be exiles in a land nottheir own, and be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.	13 Allora gli fu detto: Sappi fin da ora che la tua stirpe dimorerà come straniera in una terra non sua, sarà posta in schiavitù, e afflitta per quattrocento anni.
14 But I shal bring judgement on the nation that enslaves them and after this they wil leave, with manypossessions.	14 Ma io farò giustizia della nazione a cui avran servito e ne partiran con grandi ricchezze.
15 For your part, you wil join your ancestors in peace; you wil be buried at a happy old age.	15 Ma tu andrai in pace ai tuoi padri e sarai sepolto dopo una prospera vecchiezza.
16 In the fourth generation they wil come back here, for until then the iniquity of the Amorites wil nothave reached its ful extent.'	16 Ed essi torneranno qua alla quarta generazione, perchè l'iniquità degli Amorrei non è giunta ancora al colmo ».
17 When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passingbetween the animals' pieces.	17 Tramontato che fu il sole, si fece una caligine tenebrosa, e apparve un fuoco fumante e una lingua di fuoco che passala per mezzo agli animali divisi,
18 That day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram in these terms: 'To your descendants I give thiscountry, from the River of Egypt to the Great River, the River Euphrates,	18 In pien giorno il Signore fece alleanza con Abramo, dicendo: « Io darò alla tua progenie questa terra, dal fiume d'Egitto fino al gran fiume Eufrate,
19 the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,	19 i Cinei, i Jenezei, i Cedmonei,
20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,	20 gli Etei, i Ferezei, ed anche i Refaim,
21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.'	21 gli Amorrei, i Caìanei, i Gergesei, i Gebusei ».
