Genesis 15

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Some time later, the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram! I am yourshield and shal give you a very great reward.	1 Después de estos acontecimientos, la palabra del Señor llegó a Abram en una visión, en estos términos: «No temas, Abram. Yo soy para ti un escudo. Tu recompensa será muy grande».
2 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'what use are your gifts, as I am going on my way childless? . . .	2 «Señor, respondió Abram, ¿para qué me darás algo, si yo sigo sin tener hijos, y el heredero de mi casa será Eliezer de Damasco?».
3 Since you have given me no offspring,' Abram continued, 'a member of my household will be my heir.'	3 Después añadió: «Tú no me has dado un descendiente, y un servidor de mi casa será mi heredero».
4 Then Yahweh's word came to him in reply, 'Such a one wil not be your heir; no, your heir will be theissue of your own body.'	4 Entonces el Señor le dirigió esta palabra: «No, ese no será tu heredero; tu heredero será alguien que nacerá de ti.
5 Then taking him outside, he said, 'Look up at the sky and count the stars if you can. Just so wil yourdescendants be,' he told him.	5 Luego lo llevó afuera y continuó diciéndole: «Mira hacia el cielo y si puedes, cuenta las estrellas». Y añadió: «Así será tu descendencia».
6 Abram put his faith in Yahweh and this was reckoned to him as uprightness.	6 Abram creyó en el Señor, y el Señor se lo tuvo en cuenta para su justificación.
7 He then said to him, 'I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldaeans to give you thiscountry as your possession.'	7 Entonces el Señor le dijo: «Yo soy el Señor que te hice salir de Ur de los caldeos para darte en posesión esta tierra».
8 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'how can I know that I shal possess it?'	8 «Señor, respondió Abram, ¿cómo sabré que la voy a poseer?».
9 He said to him, 'Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old she-goat, a three-year-old ram, aturtledove and a young pigeon.'	9 El Señor le respondió: «Tráeme una ternera, una cabra y un carnero, todos ellos de tres años, y también una tórtola y un pichón de paloma».
10 He brought him all these, split the animals down the middle and placed each half opposite the other;but the birds he did not divide.	10 El trajo todos estos animales, los cortó por la mitad y puso cada mitad una frente a otra, pero no dividió los pájaros.
11 And whenever birds of prey swooped down on the carcases, Abram drove them off.	11 Las aves de rapiña se abalanzaron sobre los animales muertos, pero Abram los espantó.
12 Now, as the sun was on the point of setting, a trance fel on Abram, and a deep dark dreaddescended on him.	12 Al ponerse el sol, Abram cayó en un profundo sueño, y lo invadió un gran temor, una densa oscuridad.
13 Then Yahweh said to Abram, 'Know this for certain, that your descendants will be exiles in a land nottheir own, and be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.	13 El Señor le dijo: «Tienes que saber que tus descendientes emigrarán a una tierra extranjera. Allí serán esclavizados y maltratados durante cuatrocientos años.
14 But I shal bring judgement on the nation that enslaves them and after this they wil leave, with manypossessions.	14 Pero yo juzgaré a la nación que los esclavizará, y después saldrán cargados de riquezas.
15 For your part, you wil join your ancestors in peace; you wil be buried at a happy old age.	15 Tú, en cambio, irás en paz a reunirte con tus padres, y serás sepultado después de una vejez feliz.
16 In the fourth generation they wil come back here, for until then the iniquity of the Amorites wil nothave reached its ful extent.'	16 Sólo a la cuarta generación tus descendientes volverán aquí, porque hasta ahora no se ha colmado la iniquidad de los amorreos».
17 When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passingbetween the animals' pieces.	17 Cuando se puso el sol y estuvo completamente oscuro, un horno humeante y una antorcha encendida pasaron en medio de los animales descuartizados.
18 That day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram in these terms: 'To your descendants I give thiscountry, from the River of Egypt to the Great River, the River Euphrates,	18 Aquel día, el Señor hizo una alianza con Abram diciendo: «Yo he dado esta tierra a tu descendencia desde el Torrente de Egipto hasta el Gran Río, el río Eufrates:
19 the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,	19 los quenitas, los quenizitas, los cadmonitas,
20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,	20 los hititas, los perizitas, los refaím,
21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.'	21 los amorreos, los cananeos, los guirgasitas y los jebuseos».
