Genesis 15

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Some time later, the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram! I am yourshield and shal give you a very great reward.	1 In seguito a questi fatti, la parola del Signore fu rivolta ad Abram in visione, in questi termini: "Non temere, Abram! Io sono il tuo scudo; la tua ricompensa sarà grande assai".
2 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'what use are your gifts, as I am going on my way childless? . . .	2 Rispose Abram: "Mio Signore Dio, che cosa mi donerai, mentre io me ne vado spogliato e l'erede della mia casa è Eliezer di Damasco?".
3 Since you have given me no offspring,' Abram continued, 'a member of my household will be my heir.'	3 Soggiunse Abram: "Vedi che a me non hai dato discendenza e che un mio domestico sarà mio erede?".
4 Then Yahweh's word came to him in reply, 'Such a one wil not be your heir; no, your heir will be theissue of your own body.'	4 Ed ecco gli fu rivolto un oracolo del Signore in questi termini: "Non costui sarà il tuo erede, ma colui che uscirà dalle tue viscere, lui sarà il tuo erede".
5 Then taking him outside, he said, 'Look up at the sky and count the stars if you can. Just so wil yourdescendants be,' he told him.	5 Poi lo fece uscir fuori e gli disse: "Guarda in cielo e conta le stelle, se le puoi contare"; e soggiunse: "Tale sarà la tua discendenza".
6 Abram put his faith in Yahweh and this was reckoned to him as uprightness.	6 Egli credette al Signore che glielo accreditò a giustizia.
7 He then said to him, 'I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldaeans to give you thiscountry as your possession.'	7 E gli disse: "Io sono il Signore che ti ho fatto uscire da Ur dei Caldei, per darti questo paese in possesso".
8 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'how can I know that I shal possess it?'	8 Rispose: "Signore mio Dio, come potrò conoscere che ne avrò il possesso?".
9 He said to him, 'Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old she-goat, a three-year-old ram, aturtledove and a young pigeon.'	9 Gli disse: "Prendi una giovenca di tre anni, una capra di tre anni, un ariete di tre anni, una tortora e un pulcino di uccello".
10 He brought him all these, split the animals down the middle and placed each half opposite the other;but the birds he did not divide.	10 Andò a prendere tutti questi animali, spaccandoli in pezzi, e ne pose un pezzo dinanzi all'altro; non divise però gli uccelli.
11 And whenever birds of prey swooped down on the carcases, Abram drove them off.	11 Subito l'uccello rapace calò sui pezzi, ma Abram lo scacciò.
12 Now, as the sun was on the point of setting, a trance fel on Abram, and a deep dark dreaddescended on him.	12 Quando il sole stava per tramontare, un sonno profondo cadde su Abram ed ecco che un terrore e una grande tenebra l'assalì.
13 Then Yahweh said to Abram, 'Know this for certain, that your descendants will be exiles in a land nottheir own, and be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.	13 Allora il Signore disse ad Abram: "Devi sapere che la tua discendenza dimorerà come forestiera in una terra non sua; là lavoreranno e li opprimeranno per quattrocento anni.
14 But I shal bring judgement on the nation that enslaves them and after this they wil leave, with manypossessions.	14 Ma io giudicherò la nazione ch'essi avranno servito! Dopo di che essi usciranno con grandi beni.
15 For your part, you wil join your ancestors in peace; you wil be buried at a happy old age.	15 Quanto a te, te ne andrai in pace presso i tuoi padri; sarai sepolto dopo una felice vecchiaia.
16 In the fourth generation they wil come back here, for until then the iniquity of the Amorites wil nothave reached its ful extent.'	16 Alla quarta generazione torneranno qui, perché non è ancora arrivata al colmo l'iniquità degli Amorrei".
17 When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passingbetween the animals' pieces.	17 Quando il sole fu tramontato ci fu un buio fitto, poi ecco un forno fumante e una fiaccola infuocata passare in mezzo a quelle parti divise.
18 That day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram in these terms: 'To your descendants I give thiscountry, from the River of Egypt to the Great River, the River Euphrates,	18 In quel giorno il Signore tagliò il patto con Abram in questi termini: "Alla tua razza io do questo paese, dal torrente d'Egitto fino al fiume grande, il fiume Eufrate:
19 the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,	19 i Keniti, i Kenizziti, i Kadmoniti,
20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,	20 gli Hittiti, i Perizziti, i Refaim,
21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.'	21 gli Amorrei, i Cananei, i Gergesei e i Gebusei".
