Genesis 15

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Some time later, the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram! I am yourshield and shal give you a very great reward.	1 - Dopo questi avvenimenti, il Signore parlò ad Abramo in visione, e disse: «Non temere, Abramo, io sono il tuo protettore; e la tua mercede sarà grandissima».
2 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'what use are your gifts, as I am going on my way childless? . . .	2 E disse Abramo: «Signore Dio, che mi darai tu? Io me n'andrò senza figli, e questo Eliezer di Damasco, figlio del procuratore della mia casa [mi succederà]».
3 Since you have given me no offspring,' Abram continued, 'a member of my household will be my heir.'	3 Ed aggiunse: «A me non hai dato prole, e mio erede sarà un servo nato nella mia casa».
4 Then Yahweh's word came to him in reply, 'Such a one wil not be your heir; no, your heir will be theissue of your own body.'	4 Ma subito il Signore gli rispose: «Non questi sarà il tuo erede; ma uno generato da te medesimo, sarà egli l'erede».
5 Then taking him outside, he said, 'Look up at the sky and count the stars if you can. Just so wil yourdescendants be,' he told him.	5 Poi lo condusse all'aperto, e gli disse: «Guarda su in cielo, e conta le stelle, se puoi». Ed aggiunse: «Così sarà la tua discendenza».
6 Abram put his faith in Yahweh and this was reckoned to him as uprightness.	6 Credè Abramo a Dio, e gli fu computato a giustizia.
7 He then said to him, 'I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldaeans to give you thiscountry as your possession.'	7 Gli disse ancora il Signore: «Io sono il Signore che ti trassi da Ur de' Caldei, per darti questa terra, acciò tu la possedessi».
8 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'how can I know that I shal possess it?'	8 Ma egli domandò: «Signore Dio, da qual segno potrò io conoscere d'essere per possederla?».
9 He said to him, 'Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old she-goat, a three-year-old ram, aturtledove and a young pigeon.'	9 Gli rispose il Signore: «Prendi per me una vacca di tre anni, una capra di tre anni, ed un ariete di tre anni; poi una tortora ed una colomba».
10 He brought him all these, split the animals down the middle and placed each half opposite the other;but the birds he did not divide.	10 Presele, le divise per metà e mise le due parti una di contro all'altra [su due file]; non divise però gli uccelli.
11 And whenever birds of prey swooped down on the carcases, Abram drove them off.	11 Degli uccelli rapaci scendevano a volo sulle vittime, ed Abramo li discacciava.
12 Now, as the sun was on the point of setting, a trance fel on Abram, and a deep dark dreaddescended on him.	12 Stando poi il sole per tramontare, Abramo fu preso dal sonno, ed un terrore grande e misterioso l'invase.
13 Then Yahweh said to Abram, 'Know this for certain, that your descendants will be exiles in a land nottheir own, and be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.	13 E udì dirsi: «Sappi fin d'ora che i tuoi discendenti abiteranno come stranieri in terra non loro; saranno sottoposti a schiavitù ed afflitti per quattro secoli.
14 But I shal bring judgement on the nation that enslaves them and after this they wil leave, with manypossessions.	14 Ma il popolo a cui serviranno, io lo giudicherò; poi ne verranno via con grandi ricchezze.
15 For your part, you wil join your ancestors in peace; you wil be buried at a happy old age.	15 Quanto a te, ti ricongiungerai ai tuoi padri sepolto in pace in una buona vecchiezza.
16 In the fourth generation they wil come back here, for until then the iniquity of the Amorites wil nothave reached its ful extent.'	16 Alla quarta generazione, [i tuoi discendenti] ritorneranno qui; perchè per ora non sono anche compiute le iniquità degli Amorrei».
17 When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passingbetween the animals' pieces.	17 Quando il sole fu tramontato, si fece una caligine densa, ed apparve un rogo fumante, ed una lingua di fuoco che passava tra quelli animali divisi.
18 That day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram in these terms: 'To your descendants I give thiscountry, from the River of Egypt to the Great River, the River Euphrates,	18 In quel giorno, il Signore concluse alleanza con Abramo, e gli disse: «Darò alla tua stirpe questa terra, dal fiume d'Egitto al gran fiume Eufrate,
19 the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,	19 coi Cinei e Cenezei, Cedmonei,
20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,	20 Etei, Ferezei, Rafaim
21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.'	21 ed Amorrei, Cananei, Gergesei e Jebusei».
