Hosea 4

1 Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel, for the LORD has a grievance against the inhabitants of the land: There is no fidelity, no mercy, no knowledge of God in the land.	1 Ouvi a palavra do Senhor, filhos de Israel! Porque o Senhor está em litígio com os habitantes da terra. Não há sinceridade nem bondade, nem conhecimento de Deus na terra.
2 False swearing, lying, murder, stealing and adultery! in their lawlessness, bloodshed follows bloodshed.	2 Juram falso, assassinam, roubam, cometem adultério, usam de violência e acumulam homicídio sobre homicídio.
3 Therefore the land mourns, and everything that dwells in it languishes: The beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and even the fish of the sea perish.	3 Por isso, a terra está de luto e todos os seus habitantes perecem; os animais selvagens, as aves do céu, e até mesmo os peixes do mar desaparecem.
4 But let no one protest, let no one complain; with you is my grievance, O priests!	4 Entretanto, ninguém poderá acusar {o povo}, nem o repreender, mas eu censuro a ti, ó sacerdote.
5 You shall stumble in the day, and the prophets shall stumble with you at night; I will destroy your mother.	5 Tu tropeçarás em pleno dia, assim como o profeta durante a noite. Far-te-ei perecer,
6 My people perish for want of knowledge! Since you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from my priesthood; Since you have ignored the law of your God, I will also ignore your sons.	6 porque meu povo se perde por falta de conhecimento; por teres rejeitado a instrução, excluir-te-ei de meu sacerdócio; já que esqueceste a lei de teu Deus, também eu me esquecerei dos teus filhos.
7 One and all they sin against me, exchanging their glory for shame.	7 Quanto mais se multiplicaram, mais pecaram contra mim, transformaram em infâmia o que era a sua glória.
8 They feed on the sin of my people, and are greedy for their guilt.	8 Eles se nutrem do pecado de meu povo, e são ávidos de suas iniqüidades.
9 The priests shall fare no better than the people: I will punish them for their ways, and repay them for their deeds.	9 O sacerdote será tratado como o povo. Castigá-lo-ei pelo seu comportamento. Tratá-lo-ei segundo as suas obras.
10 They shall eat but not be satisfied, they shall play the harlot but not increase, Because they have abandoned the LORD	10 Comerão, mas não hão de saciar-se; prostituir-se-ão, mas não hão de multiplicar-se, porque abandonaram o culto do Senhor.
11 to practice harlotry. Old wine and new deprive my people of understanding.	11 O mau proceder, o vinho e o mosto abafam a razão.
12 They consult their piece of wood, and their wand makes pronouncements for them, For the spirit of harlotry has led them astray; they commit harlotry, forsaking their God.	12 Meu povo consulta o seu pedaço de pau, e o seu cajado lhe faz revelações, porque o espírito de infidelidade o perde e eles se prostituem, afastando-se de seu Deus.
13 On the mountaintops they offer sacrifice and on the hills they burn incense, Beneath oak and poplar and terebinth, because of their pleasant shade. That is why your daughters play the harlot, and your daughters-in-law are adulteresses.	13 Sacrificam nos cimos das montanhas, queimam ofertas nas colinas, debaixo dos carvalhos, dos álamos e dos terebintos, sentindo-se bem à sua sombra. Assim, quando vossas filhas se prostituem e vossas noras adulteram,
14 Am I then to punish your daughters for their harlotry, your daughters-in-law for their adultery? You yourselves consort with harlots, and with prostitutes you offer sacrifice! So must a people without understanding come to ruin.	14 não castigarei as vossas filhas prostitutas, nem vossas noras adúlteras, porque eles mesmos coabitam com meretrizes, e sacrificam com hieródulas. O povo insensato lança-se à perdição!
15 Though you play the harlot, O Israel, let not Judah become guilty! Come not to Gilgal, nor up to Beth-aven, to swear, "As the Lord lives!"	15 Se procederes mal, Israel, que ao menos Judá não se torne culpado! Não vades a Gálgala, não subais a Betavem, e não jureis pela vida de Deus!
16 For Israel is as stubborn as a heifer; will the LORD now give them broad pastures as though they were lambs?	16 Porque Israel se rebela como uma novilha insubmissa, o Senhor vai conduzi-lo agora a pastar como um cordeiro numa planície aberta.
17 Ephraim is an associate of idols, let him alone!	17 Efraim aliou-se aos ídolos: deixa-o!
18 When their carousing is over, they give themselves to harlotry; in their arrogance they love shame.	18 Logo que cessam de beber, entregam-se à prostituição; seus chefes preferem a ignomínia.
19 The wind has bound them up in its pinions; they shall have only shame from their altars.	19 O vento os envolverá nas suas asas, e serão cobertos de vergonha por causa de seu altares.
