Hosea 4

1 Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel, for the LORD has a grievance against the inhabitants of the land: There is no fidelity, no mercy, no knowledge of God in the land.	1 Ascoltate la parola del Signore, figli d'Israele: perché il Signore è in lite con gli abitanti del paese! Non c'è lealtà, non c'è amore, non c'è conoscenza di Dio nel paese;
2 False swearing, lying, murder, stealing and adultery! in their lawlessness, bloodshed follows bloodshed.	2 ma spergiurare, mentire, uccidere, rubare e commettere adulterio si propagano e le uccisioni si susseguono alle uccisioni.
3 Therefore the land mourns, and everything that dwells in it languishes: The beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and even the fish of the sea perish.	3 Per questo il paese è desolato e tutti gli abitanti languiscono, fino alle bestie dei campi e agli uccelli del cielo; anche i pesci del mare scompaiono.
4 But let no one protest, let no one complain; with you is my grievance, O priests!	4 Però nessuno accusi, nessuno giudichi. Con te è la mia lite, o sacerdote!
5 You shall stumble in the day, and the prophets shall stumble with you at night; I will destroy your mother.	5 Tu vacilli di giorno, vacilla anche il profeta insieme a te di notte; tu rovini tua madre,
6 My people perish for want of knowledge! Since you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from my priesthood; Since you have ignored the law of your God, I will also ignore your sons.	6 va in rovina il mio popolo per difetto di scienza. Perché tu hai rigettato la scienza, io ti rigetterò dal mio sacerdozio; hai trascurato la legge del tuo Dio, trascurerò i tuoi figli pure io!
7 One and all they sin against me, exchanging their glory for shame.	7 Tutti quanti hanno peccato contro di me, han cambiato la loro Gloria con l'obbrobrio.
8 They feed on the sin of my people, and are greedy for their guilt.	8 Del peccato del mio popolo si saziano, e della sua colpa sono avidi.
9 The priests shall fare no better than the people: I will punish them for their ways, and repay them for their deeds.	9 Come del popolo così sarà del sacerdote: lo punirò della sua condotta e farò ricadere su di lui le sue opere.
10 They shall eat but not be satisfied, they shall play the harlot but not increase, Because they have abandoned the LORD	10 Mangeranno, ma non si sazieranno; si prostituiranno, ma non ne avranno il frutto, perché hanno abbandonato il Signore per darsi alla prostituzione,
11 to practice harlotry. Old wine and new deprive my people of understanding.	11 al vino e al mosto che fan perdere il senno.
12 They consult their piece of wood, and their wand makes pronouncements for them, For the spirit of harlotry has led them astray; they commit harlotry, forsaking their God.	12 Il mio popolo consulta il suo legno e il suo bastone gli dà il responso; perché uno spirito di prostituzione lo travia e si prostituiscono abbandonando il loro Dio.
13 On the mountaintops they offer sacrifice and on the hills they burn incense, Beneath oak and poplar and terebinth, because of their pleasant shade. That is why your daughters play the harlot, and your daughters-in-law are adulteresses.	13 Sulle cime dei monti offrono sacrifici e sulle alture bruciano le offerte, sotto la quercia e il pioppo e il terebinto dall'ombra gradevole. Se si prostituiscono le vostre figlie e le vostre nuore commettono adulterio,
14 Am I then to punish your daughters for their harlotry, your daughters-in-law for their adultery? You yourselves consort with harlots, and with prostitutes you offer sacrifice! So must a people without understanding come to ruin.	14 non punirò le vostre figlie, perché si prostituiscono, né le vostre nuore perché commettono adulterio; perché loro stessi si appartano con le prostitute, con le prostitute sacre offrono sacrifici. Un popolo, per non aver senno, va in rovina!
15 Though you play the harlot, O Israel, let not Judah become guilty! Come not to Gilgal, nor up to Beth-aven, to swear, "As the Lord lives!"	15 Se tu ti prostituisci, Israele, non si renda colpevole Giuda. Non andate a Gàlgala, non salite a Bet-Avèn e non giurate per il Signore vivente!
16 For Israel is as stubborn as a heifer; will the LORD now give them broad pastures as though they were lambs?	16 Sì! Come una giovenca bizzarra si sbizzarrisce Israele. Il Signore potrà farli pascolare come un agnello all'aperto?
17 Ephraim is an associate of idols, let him alone!	17 Efraim è l'alleata degli idoli,
18 When their carousing is over, they give themselves to harlotry; in their arrogance they love shame.	18 si adagia in compagnia dei beoni; si prostituiscono vergognosamente, preferiscono l'obbrobrio alla loro Gloria.
19 The wind has bound them up in its pinions; they shall have only shame from their altars.	19 Il vento li travolgerà con le sue ali e dei loro altari avranno vergogna.
