1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	1 - E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
2 Son of man, look southward, preach toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the southern land.	2 «Figlio dell'uomo, drizza la tua faccia verso Gerusalemme e apostrofa i luoghi santi e profetizza contro il suolo d'Israele,
3 Hear the word of the LORD! you shall say to the southern forest. Thus says the Lord GOD: See! I am kindling a fire in you that shall devour all trees, the green as well as the dry. The blazing flame shall not be quenched, but from south to north every face shall be scorched by it.	3 e dirai alla terra d'Israele: - Così dice il Signore Dio: Eccomi a te e caverò la mia spada dal fodero e ucciderò in te il giusto e l'empio.
4 Everyone shall see that I, the LORD, have kindled it, and it shall not be quenched.	4 Per questo che io ho voluto uccidere in te il giusto e l'empio, la mia spada sarà sguainata, contro ogni umana creatura dall'austro all'aquilone.
5 But I said, "Alas! Lord GOD, they say to me, 'Is not this the one who is forever spinning parables?'"	5 Affinchè ogni creatura sappia che io, il Signore, ho cavato la mia spada dalla vagina nè più la invaginerò.
6 Then the word of the LORD came to me:	6 E tu, figlio dell'uomo, singhiozza a fiaccamento di reni, a lacrime amare singhiozza davanti ad essi.
7 Son of man, look toward Jerusalem, preach against their sanctuary, and prophesy against the land of Israel,	7 E quando ti diranno: Perchè singhiozzi tu? Dirai: Per la novella, perchè è giunta, ogni cuore sarà in disfacimento, tutte le mani si discioglieranno, ogni spirito sarà in trepidazione e tutte le ginocchia si distempreranno in acqua. Ecco è giunta e succederà -», dice il Signore Dio.
8 saying to the land of Israel: Thus says the LORD: See! I am coming at you; I will draw my sword from its sheath and cut off from you the virtuous and the wicked.	8 E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
9 Thus my sword shall leave its sheath against everyone from south to north,	9 «Figlio dell'uomo, profetizza e dirai: - Così dice il Signore Dio e dirai: La spada, la spada è affilata e forbita!
10 and everyone shall know that I, the LORD, have drawn my sword from its sheath, and it shall not be sheathed again.	10 Per squarciare le vittime è stata affilata, per balenare su gli occhi è stata forbita, tu scrolli lo scettro del mio figlio e hai troncato il fusto d'ogni albero.
11 As for you, son of man, groan! with shattered strength groan bitterly while they look on.	11 L'ho data a forbire affinchè sia impugnata; essa è ora una ben affilata spada e ben forbita per esser data in pugno all'uccisore.
12 And when they ask you, "Why are you groaning?", you shall say: Because of a report; when it comes every heart shall fail, every hand shall fall helpless, every spirit shall be daunted, and every knee shall run with water. See, it is coming, it is here! says the Lord GOD.	12 Stridi e urla, o figlio dell'uomo, perchè essa è per il mio popolo; essa è per tutti i duci di Israele che avean cercato scampo; sono stati consegnati alla spada insieme col mio popolo e perciò percuotiti l'anca,
13 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	13 perchè è una lama a tutta prova, e questo si vedrà quando avrà rovesciato lo scettro e più non sarà , - dice il Signore Dio.
14 Son of man, prophesy! say: Thus says the LORD: A sword, a sword has been sharpened, a sword, a sword has been burnished:	14 Tu dunque, o figlio dell'uomo, profetizza e batti palma a palma e sia duplicata la spada, triplicata la spada omicida, quest'è la spada della grande carneficina che li farà inorridire,
15 To work slaughter has it been sharpened, to flash lightning has it been burnished. Why should I now withdraw it? You have spurned the rod and every judgment!	15 e metterà il cuore in disfacimento e moltiplicherà le stragi. Su tutte le loro porte ho messo il terrore della spada aguzza e forbita che abbaglia tenuta a filo per menar carneficina.
16 I have given it over to the burnisher that he might hold it in his hand, A sword sharpened and burnished to be put in the hand of a slayer.	16 Su dunque taglia: va' a destra od a sinistra dovunque hai brama di volgere il taglio.
17 Cry out and wail, son of man, for it is destined for my people; It is for all the princes of Israel, victims of the sword with my people. Therefore, slap your thigh,	17 Anzi e anch'io batterò palma a palma e darò compimento al mio disegno; io, il Signore, ho parlato».
18 for the sword has been tested; and why should it not be so? says the Lord GOD, since you have spurned the rod.	18 E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
19 As for you, son of man, prophesy, brushing one hand against the other: While the sword is doubled and tripled, this sword of slaughter, This great sword of slaughter which threatens all around,	19 «E tu, figlio dell'uomo, sègnati due vie su cui venga la spada del re di Babilonia; da una stessa terra partiranno ambedue, egli colla mano coglierà l'auspicio, in capo alla via della città domanderà l'augurio.
20 That every heart may tremble; for many will be the fallen. At all their gates I have appointed the sword for slaughter, Fashioned to flash lightning, burnished for slaughter.	20 Segnerai la via perchè la spada venga a Rabbat dei figli di Ammon e in Giuda, a Gerusalemme, città ben fortificata».
21 Cleave to the right! destroy! to the left! wherever your edge is turned.	21 Infatti il re di Babilonia si fermò al bivio, in capo alle due vie, per cavare l'oroscopo rimescolando le frecce; interrogò gli idoli, consultò le spiranti viscere.
22 Then I, too, shall brush one hand against the other and wreak my fury. I, the LORD, have spoken.	22 L'oroscopo è stato dato per la destra, incontro a Gerusalemme, perchè vi ponga gli arieti, perchè apra la bocca nel massacro, perchè alzi la voce con ululo di guerra, perchè punti gli arieti contro le porte, perchè argini le mura e fabbrichi i contrafforti.
23 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	23 Negli occhi di coloro, egli sta come invano a consultare l'oracolo; come chi è di sabato e non può far faccende; ma egli tiene viva la memoria della loro iniquità, che li metterà nelle sue branche.
24 Son of man, make for yourself two roads over which the sword of the king of Babylon can come. Both roads shall lead out from the same land. Then put a signpost at the head of each road,	24 E quindi così dice il Signore Dio: «Perchè avete rinnovato la memoria della vostra iniquità e disvelate le vostre prevaricazioni e le vostre colpe sono riapparse in tutte le vostre intenzioni, per questo, dico, sarete presi nelle branche».
25 so that the sword can come to Rabbah of the Ammonites or to Judah's capital, Jerusalem.	25 E tu, profanato, empio duce d'Israele, che vedi giunto il tuo giorno da una successione d'iniquità determinato,
26 For at the fork where the two roads divide stands the king of Babylon, divining; he has shaken the arrows, inquired of the teraphim, inspected the liver.	26 così dice il Signore Dio: «Deponi la tiara, leva la corona! e non è forse questa che levò l'abbietto e depresse il grande?
27 In his right hand is the divining arrow marked "Jerusalem," bidding him to give the order for slaying, to raise his voice in the battle cry, to post battering rams at the gates, to cast up a ramp, to build a siege tower.	27 A ruina, ruina, ruina, io la ridurrò! Ma questo non è stato fatto, fin tanto che venga colui al quale il giudizio s'appartiene, e a colui la ridarò.
28 In their eyes this is but a lying oracle; yet they are bound by the oaths they have sworn, and the arrow taken in hand marks their guilt.	28 E tu, figlio dell'uomo, profetizza e di': - Così dice il Signore Dio contro ai figli di Ammon, e contro ai loro oltraggi e dirai: Spada, spada, sguainata per far macello, affilata per uccidere e sfolgoreggiare
29 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have drawn attention to your guilt, with your crimes laid bare and your sinfulness in all your wicked deeds revealed (because attention has been drawn to you), you shall be taken in hand.	29 mentre a te presagiscono il falso e fan divinazioni mendaci, apprestata per cadere sul collo delle vittime empie, che vedranno giungere il loro giorno da una successione d'iniquità determinato!
30 And as for you, depraved and wicked prince of Israel, whose day is coming when your life of crime will be ended,	30 Rientra nel fodero: nel luogo dove fosti creata, nella terra dove hai avuto i natali ti giudicherò,
31 thus says the Lord GOD: Off with the turban and away with the crown! Nothing shall be as it was! Up with the low and down with the high!	31 e verserò su di te la mia indignazione; colla fiamma che il mio fuoco avvampa ti affocherò e ti darò in mano ad uomini insensati, che si faranno strumenti della tua rovina.
32 Twisted, twisted, twisted will I leave it; it shall not be the same until he comes who has the claim against the city; and to him I will hand it over.	32 Sarai pascolo del fuoco, resterai dissanguata in mezzo alla tua terra e travolta nell'oblio; perchè io, il Signore, ho parlato -».
33 As for you, son of man, prophesy: Thus says the Lord GOD against the Ammonites and their insults: A sword, a sword is drawn for slaughter, burnished to consume and to flash lightning,
34 because you planned with false visions and lying divinations to lay it on the necks of depraved and wicked men whose day has come when their crimes are at an end.
35 Return it to its sheath! In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.
36 I will pour out my indignation upon you, breathing my fiery wrath upon you, I will hand you over to ravaging men, artisans of destruction.
37 You shall be fuel for the fire, your blood shall flow throughout the land. You shall not be remembered, for I, the LORD, have spoken.
