1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	1 Il Signore parlommi, e disse:
2 Son of man, look southward, preach toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the southern land.	2 Figljuolo dell'uomo, volgi la tua faccia verso Gerusalemme, e parla a' santuarj, e profetizza contro la terra d'Israele;
3 Hear the word of the LORD! you shall say to the southern forest. Thus says the Lord GOD: See! I am kindling a fire in you that shall devour all trees, the green as well as the dry. The blazing flame shall not be quenched, but from south to north every face shall be scorched by it.	3 E dirai alla terra d'Israele: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Ecco, che io vengo a te, ed io trarrò la mia spada dal suo fodero, e ucciderò in te il giusto, e l'empio.
4 Everyone shall see that I, the LORD, have kindled it, and it shall not be quenched.	4 E perchè io ho ucciso in te il giusto, e l'empio, per questo trarrò la mia spada dal suo fodero contro tutti gli uomini da mezzodì a settentrione,
5 But I said, "Alas! Lord GOD, they say to me, 'Is not this the one who is forever spinning parables?'"	5 Affinchè tutti sappiano, che io il Signore ho tratta dal suo fodero la spada mia, né la rinfodererò.
6 Then the word of the LORD came to me:	6 Ma tu, figliuolo dell'uomo, trai dal rotto fianco sospiri, e nell'amarezza del cuore, gemi dinanzi a costoro.
7 Son of man, look toward Jerusalem, preach against their sanctuary, and prophesy against the land of Israel,	7 E quando a te diranno: Per qual motivo sospiri tu? dirai: Per quel, che ho udito; perchè (colui) viene, e ogni cuore verrà meno, e tutte le braccia saranno spossate, e ogni spirito sarà fiacco, e tutte le ginocchia saran bagnate di sudore: ecco, che viene, e la cosa avverrà, dice il Signore Dio.
8 saying to the land of Israel: Thus says the LORD: See! I am coming at you; I will draw my sword from its sheath and cut off from you the virtuous and the wicked.	8 E il Signore parlommi, dicendo:
9 Thus my sword shall leave its sheath against everyone from south to north,	9 Profetizza, o figliuolo dell'uomo, e dirai: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: Parla: La spada, la spada è tagliente, ed arruotata;
10 and everyone shall know that I, the LORD, have drawn my sword from its sheath, and it shall not be sheathed again.	10 Ella è tagliente per uccider le vittime, è arruotata, affinchè riluca: tu (spada), che abbatti lo scettro del mio figliuolo, tu troncherai ogni pianta.
11 As for you, son of man, groan! with shattered strength groan bitterly while they look on.	11 Ed io la ho data ad affilare, perchè sia alla mano: questa spada è tagliente, questa è affilata, affinchè sia in mano dell'uccisore.
12 And when they ask you, "Why are you groaning?", you shall say: Because of a report; when it comes every heart shall fail, every hand shall fall helpless, every spirit shall be daunted, and every knee shall run with water. See, it is coming, it is here! says the Lord GOD.	12 Grida, ed urla, o figliuolo dell'uomo, perchè questa (spada) è fatta pel popol mio, questa per tutti i duci d'Israele, che eran fuggiti: sono stati messi a fil di spada col popol mio, per questo percuoti tu il fianco;
13 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	13 Perocché questa è (spada) provata, provata allor quando ha rovesciato lo scettro di Giuda, che più non sarà, dice il Signore Dio.
14 Son of man, prophesy! say: Thus says the LORD: A sword, a sword has been sharpened, a sword, a sword has been burnished:	14 Tu adunque, figliuolo dell'uomo, profetizza, e batti mano con mano, e si raddoppi, e si triplichi la spada omicida: questa è la spada del gran macello, che stupidi li renderà,
15 To work slaughter has it been sharpened, to flash lightning has it been burnished. Why should I now withdraw it? You have spurned the rod and every judgment!	15 E farà venir meno il cuore, e moltiplicherà lo scempio. A tutte le loro porte ho portato il terrore della spada tagliente, e arruotata, affinchè risplenda, e sia pronta a fare strage.
16 I have given it over to the burnisher that he might hold it in his hand, A sword sharpened and burnished to be put in the hand of a slayer.	16 Aguzzati, o spada, va a destra; ed a sinistra, dovunque a te piaccia di volgerti.
17 Cry out and wail, son of man, for it is destined for my people; It is for all the princes of Israel, victims of the sword with my people. Therefore, slap your thigh,	17 Anzi io pure applaudirò battendo palma a palma, e sfogherò il mio sdegno; io il Signore ho parlato.
18 for the sword has been tested; and why should it not be so? says the Lord GOD, since you have spurned the rod.	18 E il Signore parlommi, e disse:
19 As for you, son of man, prophesy, brushing one hand against the other: While the sword is doubled and tripled, this sword of slaughter, This great sword of slaughter which threatens all around,	19 E tu, figliuolo dell'uomo, figurati due strade, per cui venir possa la spada del re di Babilonia: tutte due partiranno da un luogo, ed egli al capo della (doppia) strada colla mano tirerà a sorte una città.
20 That every heart may tremble; for many will be the fallen. At all their gates I have appointed the sword for slaughter, Fashioned to flash lightning, burnished for slaughter.	20 Tu figurerai una strada, per cui la spada arrivi a Rabbatti dei figliuoli degli Ammoniti, e un'altra per arrivare a Giuda, alla fortissima Gerusalemme;
21 Cleave to the right! destroy! to the left! wherever your edge is turned.	21 Imperocché si è fermato al bivio il re di Babilonia, alla testata delle due strade, cercando d'indovinare col rimescolar le frecce: interrogherà gì idoli, fconsulterà le interiora degli animali.
22 Then I, too, shall brush one hand against the other and wreak my fury. I, the LORD, have spoken.	22 L'indovinamento lo mena a destra contro Gerusalemme, affinchè egli la abbatta cogli arieti, affinchè annunzi uccisione, affinchè alzi la voce con urli, affinchè gli arieti dirizzi contro le porte, e alzi terra, e fabbrichi de' fortini.
23 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	23 E negli occhi loro parrà come se quegli indarno consultato avesse l'oracolo, e come se fosse per imitare l'ozio dei sabbati: ma egli si ricorderà dell'ingiustizia per prendere (la città.)
24 Son of man, make for yourself two roads over which the sword of the king of Babylon can come. Both roads shall lead out from the same land. Then put a signpost at the head of each road,	24 Per questo così dice il Signore Dio: Perchè voi vi siete vantati della vostra iniquità, e avete rendute pubbliche le vostre prevaricazioni, e i peccati vostri si son fatti palesi in tutti i vostri disegni: perchè, dico, vi siete vantati, voi verrete in potere altrui.
25 so that the sword can come to Rabbah of the Ammonites or to Judah's capital, Jerusalem.	25 Ma tu, profano, empio principe d'Israele, per cui è venuto il dì preordinato al gastigo di tua iniquità:
26 For at the fork where the two roads divide stands the king of Babylon, divining; he has shaken the arrows, inquired of the teraphim, inspected the liver.	26 Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: e deponi il diadema, levati la corona: ma non è ella questa, che sollevò l'abbietto, ed umiliò il grande?
27 In his right hand is the divining arrow marked "Jerusalem," bidding him to give the order for slaying, to raise his voice in the battle cry, to post battering rams at the gates, to cast up a ramp, to build a siege tower.	27 Io farò manifesta l'iniquità, l'iniquità, l'iniquità di lei; e questo non sarà sino a tanto, che venga colui, a cui si appartiene di far giudizio, e a lui io la darò.
28 In their eyes this is but a lying oracle; yet they are bound by the oaths they have sworn, and the arrow taken in hand marks their guilt.	28 Or tu, figliuolo dell'uomo, profetizza, e dirai: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio ai figliuoli di Ammon, e riguardo ai loro insulti. E tu dirai, Spada, spada, sfoderati per uccidere, affilati per uccidere, e folgoreggiare
29 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have drawn attention to your guilt, with your crimes laid bare and your sinfulness in all your wicked deeds revealed (because attention has been drawn to you), you shall be taken in hand.	29 (Nel tempo, che a te, o Ammon, sono annunziate visioni vane, e bugiardi indovinamene), affinchè tu sii adoprata, e porti ferite sopra i colli degli empi, de' quali è venuto il dì preordinato al gastigo di loro iniquità.
30 And as for you, depraved and wicked prince of Israel, whose day is coming when your life of crime will be ended,	30 Rientra nel tuo fodero. Colà dove tu fosti fatta, nella terra dove nascesti, io farò giudizio di te,
31 thus says the Lord GOD: Off with the turban and away with the crown! Nothing shall be as it was! Up with the low and down with the high!	31 E spanderò sopra di te la mia indignazione; accenderò contro di te il fuoco del furor mio, e ti darò in potere di uomini barbari, amanti di strage.
32 Twisted, twisted, twisted will I leave it; it shall not be the same until he comes who has the claim against the city; and to him I will hand it over.	32 Tu sarai cibo del fuoco, il tuo sangue sarà negletto in mezzo alla terra, e tu sarai posto in dimenticanza; perch'io il Signore ho parlato.
33 As for you, son of man, prophesy: Thus says the Lord GOD against the Ammonites and their insults: A sword, a sword is drawn for slaughter, burnished to consume and to flash lightning,
34 because you planned with false visions and lying divinations to lay it on the necks of depraved and wicked men whose day has come when their crimes are at an end.
35 Return it to its sheath! In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.
36 I will pour out my indignation upon you, breathing my fiery wrath upon you, I will hand you over to ravaging men, artisans of destruction.
37 You shall be fuel for the fire, your blood shall flow throughout the land. You shall not be remembered, for I, the LORD, have spoken.
