1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	1 E la parola del Signore mi fu indirizzata, dicendo:
2 Son of man, look southward, preach toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the southern land.	2 Figliuol d’uomo, volgi la tua faccia verso Gerusalemme, e parla contro a’ luoghi santi, e profetizza contro alla terra d’Israele; e di’ alla terra d’Israele:
3 Hear the word of the LORD! you shall say to the southern forest. Thus says the Lord GOD: See! I am kindling a fire in you that shall devour all trees, the green as well as the dry. The blazing flame shall not be quenched, but from south to north every face shall be scorched by it.	3 Così ha detto il Signore: Eccomi contro a te; io trarrò la mia spada dal suo fodero, e distruggerò di te il giusto, e l’empio.
4 Everyone shall see that I, the LORD, have kindled it, and it shall not be quenched.	4 Perciocchè io ho determinato di distruggere di te il giusto, e l’empio, perciò sarà tratta la mia spada fuor del suo fodero contro ad ogni carne, dal Mezzodì fino al Settentrione.
5 But I said, "Alas! Lord GOD, they say to me, 'Is not this the one who is forever spinning parables?'"	5 Ed ogni carne conoscerà che io, il Signore, avrò tratta la mia spada, fuor del suo fodero; ella non vi sarà più rimessa.
6 Then the word of the LORD came to me:	6 Oltre a ciò, tu, figliuol d’uomo, sospira; sospira con rottura di lombi, e con amaritudine, nel cospetto loro.
7 Son of man, look toward Jerusalem, preach against their sanctuary, and prophesy against the land of Israel,	7 E quando ti diranno: Perchè sospiri? di’: Per lo grido; perciocchè la cosa viene; ed ogni cuore si struggerà, e ogni mano diverrà rimessa, ed ogni spirito si verrà meno, e tutte le ginocchia si dissolveranno in acqua; ecco, la cosa viene, e sarà messa ad effetto, dice il Signore Iddio
8 saying to the land of Israel: Thus says the LORD: See! I am coming at you; I will draw my sword from its sheath and cut off from you the virtuous and the wicked.	8 Poi la parola del Signore mi fu indirizzata, dicendo:
9 Thus my sword shall leave its sheath against everyone from south to north,	9 Figliuol d’uomo, profetizza, e di’: Così ha detto il Signore: Di’: La spada, la spada è aguzzata, ed anche è forbita;
10 and everyone shall know that I, the LORD, have drawn my sword from its sheath, and it shall not be sheathed again.	10 è aguzzata, per fare una grande uccisione; è forbita, acciocchè folgori; ci potremmo noi rallegrare, o scettro del mio figliuolo, che sprezzi ogni legno?
11 As for you, son of man, groan! with shattered strength groan bitterly while they look on.	11 E il Signore l’ha data a forbire, per impugnarla; è una spada aguzzata, e forbita, per darla in mano d’un ucciditore.
12 And when they ask you, "Why are you groaning?", you shall say: Because of a report; when it comes every heart shall fail, every hand shall fall helpless, every spirit shall be daunted, and every knee shall run with water. See, it is coming, it is here! says the Lord GOD.	12 Grida, ed urla, o figliuol d’uomo; perciocchè ella è contro il mio popolo; ella è contro a tutti i principi d’Israele; il mio popolo non è altro che uomini atterrati per la spada; perciò, percuotiti in su la coscia.
13 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	13 Perciocchè una prova è stata fatta; e che dunque, se anche lo scettro sprezzante non sarà più? dice il Signore Iddio.
14 Son of man, prophesy! say: Thus says the LORD: A sword, a sword has been sharpened, a sword, a sword has been burnished:	14 Tu adunque, figliuol d’uomo, profetizza, e battiti a palme; la spada sarà raddoppiata fino a tre volte; essa è la spada degli uccisi; la spada del grande ucciso che penetrerà fin dentro alle lor camerette.
15 To work slaughter has it been sharpened, to flash lightning has it been burnished. Why should I now withdraw it? You have spurned the rod and every judgment!	15 Io ho posto lo spavento della spada sopra tutte le lor porte, per far che ogni cuore si strugga, e per moltiplicar le ruine; ahi lasso me! ella è apparecchiata per folgorare; è aguzzata per ammazzare.
16 I have given it over to the burnisher that he might hold it in his hand, A sword sharpened and burnished to be put in the hand of a slayer.	16 O spada, giugni a man destra, colpisci a sinistra, dovunque la tua faccia sarà dirizzata.
17 Cry out and wail, son of man, for it is destined for my people; It is for all the princes of Israel, victims of the sword with my people. Therefore, slap your thigh,	17 Io altresì mi batterò a palme, ed acqueterò la mia ira. Io, il Signore, ho parlato
18 for the sword has been tested; and why should it not be so? says the Lord GOD, since you have spurned the rod.	18 La parola del Signore mi fu ancora indirizzata, dicendo:
19 As for you, son of man, prophesy, brushing one hand against the other: While the sword is doubled and tripled, this sword of slaughter, This great sword of slaughter which threatens all around,	19 Or tu, figliuol d’uomo, fatti due vie, dalle quali venga la spada del re di Babilonia; escano amendue d’una stessa terra; ed appiana un certo spazio; appianalo in capo d’una strada di città.
20 That every heart may tremble; for many will be the fallen. At all their gates I have appointed the sword for slaughter, Fashioned to flash lightning, burnished for slaughter.	20 Fa’ una via, per la quale la spada venga contro a Rabba de’ figliuoli di Ammon; ed un’altra, per la quale venga in Giuda contro a Gerusalemme, città forte.
21 Cleave to the right! destroy! to the left! wherever your edge is turned.	21 Perciocchè il re di Babilonia si è fermato in una forca di strada, in un capo di due vie, per prendere augurio; egli ha sparse le saette, ha domandati gl’idoli, ha riguardato nel fegato.
22 Then I, too, shall brush one hand against the other and wreak my fury. I, the LORD, have spoken.	22 L’augurio è stato, ch’egli si volgesse dalla man destra, verso Gerusalemme, per rizzar contro ad essa dei trabocchi, per aprir la bocca con uccisione, per alzar la voce con istormo, per rizzar trabocchi contro alle porte, per fare argini, per edificar bastie.
23 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	23 Ma ciò è parso un augurio vano a quelli che aveano loro fatti molti giuramenti; ma ora egli rammemorerà loro l’iniquità; acciocchè sieno presi.
24 Son of man, make for yourself two roads over which the sword of the king of Babylon can come. Both roads shall lead out from the same land. Then put a signpost at the head of each road,	24 Perciò, così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Perciocchè voi riducete a memoria la vostra iniquità; palesandosi i vostri misfatti, e mostrandosi i vostri peccati in tutti i vostri fatti; perciocchè, dico, voi la riducete a memoria, voi sarete presi a forza di mano.
25 so that the sword can come to Rabbah of the Ammonites or to Judah's capital, Jerusalem.	25 E tu, empio profano, principe d’Israele, il cui giorno è venuto, nel tempo del colmo dell’iniquità;
26 For at the fork where the two roads divide stands the king of Babylon, divining; he has shaken the arrows, inquired of the teraphim, inspected the liver.	26 così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Togli cotesta benda reale, e leva via cotesta corona; ella non sarà più dessa; io innalzerò colui che è basso, ed abbasserò colui che è innalzato.
27 In his right hand is the divining arrow marked "Jerusalem," bidding him to give the order for slaying, to raise his voice in the battle cry, to post battering rams at the gates, to cast up a ramp, to build a siege tower.	27 Io la riverserò, la riverserò, la riverserò; ed ella non sarà più dessa, fin che venga colui a cui appartiene il giudicio; ed io gliela darò
28 In their eyes this is but a lying oracle; yet they are bound by the oaths they have sworn, and the arrow taken in hand marks their guilt.	28 E tu, figliuol d’uomo, profetizza, e di’: Così ha detto il Signore Iddio, intorno a’ figliuoli di Ammon, ed intorno al lor vituperio: Di’ adunque: La spada, la spada è sguainata; ella è forbita per ammazzare, per consumare, per folgorare.
29 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have drawn attention to your guilt, with your crimes laid bare and your sinfulness in all your wicked deeds revealed (because attention has been drawn to you), you shall be taken in hand.	29 Mentre ti si veggono visioni di vanità, mentre ti s’indovina menzogna, mettendoti sopra il collo degli empi uccisi, il cui giorno è venuto, nel tempo del colmo dell’iniquità;
30 And as for you, depraved and wicked prince of Israel, whose day is coming when your life of crime will be ended,	30 rimetterebbesi quella spada nel suo fodero? Io ti giudicherò nel luogo stesso ove sei stata creata, nel tuo natio paese;
31 thus says the Lord GOD: Off with the turban and away with the crown! Nothing shall be as it was! Up with the low and down with the high!	31 e spanderò sopra te il mio cruccio; io soffierò nel fuoco della mia indegnazione contro a te, e ti darò in man d’uomini insensati, artefici di distruzione.
32 Twisted, twisted, twisted will I leave it; it shall not be the same until he comes who has the claim against the city; and to him I will hand it over.	32 Tu sarai per pastura del fuoco; il tuo sangue sarà in mezzo del paese; tu non sarai più ricordata; perciocchè io, il Signore, ho parlato
33 As for you, son of man, prophesy: Thus says the Lord GOD against the Ammonites and their insults: A sword, a sword is drawn for slaughter, burnished to consume and to flash lightning,
34 because you planned with false visions and lying divinations to lay it on the necks of depraved and wicked men whose day has come when their crimes are at an end.
35 Return it to its sheath! In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.
36 I will pour out my indignation upon you, breathing my fiery wrath upon you, I will hand you over to ravaging men, artisans of destruction.
37 You shall be fuel for the fire, your blood shall flow throughout the land. You shall not be remembered, for I, the LORD, have spoken.
