1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	1 Cette parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:
2 Son of man, look southward, preach toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the southern land.	2 “Fils d’homme, tourne-toi vers ta droite, prophétise vers le sud, prophétise contre la forêt du sud.
3 Hear the word of the LORD! you shall say to the southern forest. Thus says the Lord GOD: See! I am kindling a fire in you that shall devour all trees, the green as well as the dry. The blazing flame shall not be quenched, but from south to north every face shall be scorched by it.	3 Tu diras à la forêt du sud: Écoute la parole de Yahvé… “Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Je vais allumer chez toi un feu qui dévorera tout arbre, vert ou sec. Ce feu violent ne s’éteindra pas et tous les personnages s’y brûleront, depuis le sud jusqu’au nord.
4 Everyone shall see that I, the LORD, have kindled it, and it shall not be quenched.	4 Alors tout mortel comprendra que c’est moi, Yahvé, qui l’ai allumé, car il ne s’éteindra pas.”
5 But I said, "Alas! Lord GOD, they say to me, 'Is not this the one who is forever spinning parables?'"	5 Je répondis: “Ah! Yahvé, ils disent que je parle toujours de façon mystérieuse!”
6 Then the word of the LORD came to me:	6 Alors cette parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:
7 Son of man, look toward Jerusalem, preach against their sanctuary, and prophesy against the land of Israel,	7 “Fils d’homme, tourne-toi vers Jérusalem, prophétise contre le Temple, prophétise contre la terre d’Israël.
8 saying to the land of Israel: Thus says the LORD: See! I am coming at you; I will draw my sword from its sheath and cut off from you the virtuous and the wicked.	8 Tu diras à la terre d’Israël cette parole de Yahvé: Je viens m’en prendre à toi. Je vais sortir mon épée du fourreau et retrancher le juste comme le méchant.
9 Thus my sword shall leave its sheath against everyone from south to north,	9 Oui, je veux retrancher de toi le juste comme le méchant; c’est pourquoi mon épée sort de son fourreau pour frapper tout mortel, depuis le sud jusqu’au nord.
10 and everyone shall know that I, the LORD, have drawn my sword from its sheath, and it shall not be sheathed again.	10 Et tout mortel saura que c’est moi Yahvé qui ai sorti l’épée du fourreau: elle n’y rentrera pas.
11 As for you, son of man, groan! with shattered strength groan bitterly while they look on.	11 “Mets-toi à gémir, fils d’homme! Pousse des gémissements sous leurs yeux, comme si tu avais le cœur brisé, rempli de tristesse.
12 And when they ask you, "Why are you groaning?", you shall say: Because of a report; when it comes every heart shall fail, every hand shall fall helpless, every spirit shall be daunted, and every knee shall run with water. See, it is coming, it is here! says the Lord GOD.	12 Et s’ils te disent: Pourquoi ces plaintes? tu leur répondras: C’est une nouvelle qui vient d’arriver, tous vont se démoraliser, les mains leur en tomberont, les esprits se troubleront et les genoux trembleront. Or voici qu’elle vient, elle est là, dit Yahvé.”
13 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	13 Une parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:
14 Son of man, prophesy! say: Thus says the LORD: A sword, a sword has been sharpened, a sword, a sword has been burnished:	14 “Fils d’homme, prophétise. Tu leur diras cette parole de Yahvé: L’épée brille, on l’a aiguisée!
15 To work slaughter has it been sharpened, to flash lightning has it been burnished. Why should I now withdraw it? You have spurned the rod and every judgment!	15 On l’a aiguisée pour le massacre, elle brille et jette des éclairs.
16 I have given it over to the burnisher that he might hold it in his hand, A sword sharpened and burnished to be put in the hand of a slayer.	16 Yahvé l’a donnée pour qu’on la fasse briller et qu’on la prenne à pleine main; elle est aiguisée cette épée, elle brille, on va la remettre au bourreau.
17 Cry out and wail, son of man, for it is destined for my people; It is for all the princes of Israel, victims of the sword with my people. Therefore, slap your thigh,	17 Crie, fils d’homme, pousse des hurlements, car elle est destinée à mon peuple, à tous les chefs d’Israël. Ils sont livrés à l’épée avec le peuple, frappe-toi de désespoir!
18 for the sword has been tested; and why should it not be so? says the Lord GOD, since you have spurned the rod.	18 Le châtiment est décidé - parole de Yahvé.
19 As for you, son of man, prophesy, brushing one hand against the other: While the sword is doubled and tripled, this sword of slaughter, This great sword of slaughter which threatens all around,	19 Et toi, fils d’homme, prophétise et applaudis des deux mains. Que l’épée repasse trois fois, l’épée qui transperce les victimes, la grande épée qui massacre et qui passe au milieu d’eux.
20 That every heart may tremble; for many will be the fallen. At all their gates I have appointed the sword for slaughter, Fashioned to flash lightning, burnished for slaughter.	20 Tous vont perdre cœur et beaucoup tomberont, car à toutes les portes j’ai placé l’épée pour le massacre; elle jette des éclairs, elle brille pour le massacre.
21 Cleave to the right! destroy! to the left! wherever your edge is turned.	21 Tranche à droite, tranche à gauche, frappe de tous côtés!
22 Then I, too, shall brush one hand against the other and wreak my fury. I, the LORD, have spoken.	22 Et moi j’applaudirai des deux mains, ma colère sera satisfaite: moi Yahvé, j’ai parlé.
23 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:	23 Cette parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:
24 Son of man, make for yourself two roads over which the sword of the king of Babylon can come. Both roads shall lead out from the same land. Then put a signpost at the head of each road,	24 “Fils d’homme, trace donc deux chemins pour l’épée du roi de Babylone. Les deux partent du même endroit et tu y mets une pancarte pour que l’épée puisse choisir entre les deux chemins qui mènent chacun à une ville:
25 so that the sword can come to Rabbah of the Ammonites or to Judah's capital, Jerusalem.	25 soit Rabba des Ammonites, soit Juda, avec Jérusalem au centre.
26 For at the fork where the two roads divide stands the king of Babylon, divining; he has shaken the arrows, inquired of the teraphim, inspected the liver.	26 Le roi de Babylone se tient à la croisée des chemins, il consulte les sorts, il a secoué les flèches, interrogé les idoles, examiné le foie des animaux.
27 In his right hand is the divining arrow marked "Jerusalem," bidding him to give the order for slaying, to raise his voice in the battle cry, to post battering rams at the gates, to cast up a ramp, to build a siege tower.	27 Le sort a fait venir Jérusalem dans sa main droite. Aussitôt il lance un cri de guerre: “Placez les machines contre les portes, élevez des remblais, creusez des tranchées!”
28 In their eyes this is but a lying oracle; yet they are bound by the oaths they have sworn, and the arrow taken in hand marks their guilt.	28 Les habitants de Jérusalem ( ) n’osent pas y croire, mais le roi de Babylone n’a pas oublié leur infidélité et il va les faire payer.
29 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have drawn attention to your guilt, with your crimes laid bare and your sinfulness in all your wicked deeds revealed (because attention has been drawn to you), you shall be taken in hand.	29 Et voici ce que dit Yahvé: Vous avez fait le nécessaire pour que vos méfaits soient dévoilés, pour qu’on se souvienne de vos dettes, pour qu’on mette le péché à nu dans toutes vos mauvaises actions. Je me suis souvenu de vous et vous serez pris par force.
30 And as for you, depraved and wicked prince of Israel, whose day is coming when your life of crime will be ended,	30 Le temps du châtiment définitif est arrivé pour toi, prince d’Israël, infâme criminel.
31 thus says the Lord GOD: Off with the turban and away with the crown! Nothing shall be as it was! Up with the low and down with the high!	31 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: On arrachera le turban, on enlèvera la couronne, et la situation sera retournée; ce qui est bas sera élevé et ce qui est élevé sera abaissé.
32 Twisted, twisted, twisted will I leave it; it shall not be the same until he comes who has the claim against the city; and to him I will hand it over.	32 Des ruines, des ruines, encore des ruines, voilà ce que j’en ferai, jusqu’à ce que vienne celui à qui appartient le droit; c’est lui que je mettrai en place.
33 As for you, son of man, prophesy: Thus says the Lord GOD against the Ammonites and their insults: A sword, a sword is drawn for slaughter, burnished to consume and to flash lightning,	33 Prophétise donc, fils d’homme, à l’intention des Ammonites en réponse à leurs insultes. Tu leur diras cette parole de Yahvé: On a tiré l’épée pour le massacre, l’épée brille et dévore, elle lance des éclairs.
34 because you planned with false visions and lying divinations to lay it on the necks of depraved and wicked men whose day has come when their crimes are at an end.	34 Tu t’appuies sur des visions fausses, des signes mensongers; tu seras livré à l’épée et jeté avec les méchants massacrés: l’heure est venue, l’injustice arrive à sa fin.
35 Return it to its sheath! In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.	35 Retourne chez toi, laisse ces terres: je veux te juger là même où tu as été créé, sur la terre où tu es né.
36 I will pour out my indignation upon you, breathing my fiery wrath upon you, I will hand you over to ravaging men, artisans of destruction.	36 Je déchaînerai contre toi ma colère, le feu de ma fureur soufflera sur toi; je te livrerai aux mains d’hommes barbares qui ne savent que détruire.
37 You shall be fuel for the fire, your blood shall flow throughout the land. You shall not be remembered, for I, the LORD, have spoken.	37 Je te livrerai au feu, ton sang se répandra sur tes terres, et l’on ne se souviendra plus de toi, car moi Yahvé, j’ai parlé.
