Jeremiah 40

1 This word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after Nebuzaradan, captain of the bodyguard, had released him in Ramah, where he had found him a prisoner in chains, among the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.	1 - Parola che fu comunicata a Geremia dal Signore, dopo che Nabuzardan, capo delle soldatesche, lo rilasciò libero da Rama, avendolo raccolto carico di catene d'in mezzo alla turba dei deportati da Gerusalemme e da Giuda che venivano condotti in Babilonia.
2 When the captain of the bodyguard took charge of Jeremiah, he said to him, "The LORD, your God, foretold the ruin of this place.	2 Il capo delle soldatesche dunque raccolse Geremia e gli disse: «Il Signore Dio tuo pronunziò contro questo luogo il presente male
3 Now he has brought about in deed what he threatened; because you sinned against the LORD and did not obey his voice, this fate has befallen you.	3 e lo fece venire; il Signore, come aveva detto, così fece, perchè avevate offeso il Signore e non avevate dato ascolto alla sua voce, e così sono avvenute a voi queste cose.
4 And now, I am freeing you today from the fetters that bind your hands; if it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, you may come: I will look after you well. But if it does not please you to come to Babylon, you need not come. See, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think good and proper";	4 Intanto, ecco che da oggi sciolgo a te le catene che sono sulle tue braccia; se hai piacere di venire con me a Babilonia, vieni e ti tratterò coi dovuti riguardi, e se non hai piacere di venire meco in Babilonia, resta; ecco, tutto il tuo paese ti sta davanti agli occhi, dove scegli e ti piacerà d'andare, va'.
5 and then, before he left--"or go to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed ruler over the cities of Judah; stay with him among the people, or go wherever you please." The captain of the bodyguard gave him food and gifts and let him go.	5 Fa' pure a meno di venire con me, resta con Godolia, figlio di Aicam, figlio di Safan, che il re di Babilonia ha stabilito governatore delle città di Giuda, rimanti con lui in mezzo al popolo, oppure dove che sia altrove, se ti aggrada, va' pure». Dopo ciò il capo delle soldatesche gli diede viveri e qualche regalo e lo lasciò andare.
6 Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, in Mizpah, and stayed with him among the people left in the land.	6 Allora Geremia venne a Godolia, figlio di Aicam, in Masfa e si fermò con lui in mezzo al popolo che era rimasto nel paese.
7 When the army leaders who were still in the field with all their men heard that the king of Babylon had given Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, charge of the land, of men, women, and children, and of those poor who had not been led captive to Babylon,	7 Ora tutti i capi dell'esercito che erano dispersi per quei luoghi, avendo udito essi e i loro compagni, che il re di Babilonia aveva preposto al governo del paese Godolia, figlio di Aicam, e che gli aveva dato in consegna gli uomini, le donne e i bambini del basso popolo che non erano stati trasportati in Babilonia
8 they came with their men to Gedaliah in Mizpah: Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; Johanan, son of Kareah; Seraiah, son of Tanhumeth; the sons of Ephai of Netophah; and Jezaniah of Beth-maacah.	8 vennero a Godolia in Masfa, cioè Ismael figlio di Natania, e Joanan e Jonatan, figli di Caree, e Sareas figlio di Taneumet, e i figli di Ofi che erano di Netofa e Jezonia figlio di Maacati, essi e i loro uomini.
9 Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, adjured them and their men not to be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: to stay in the land and submit to the king of Babylon, for their own welfare;	9 E Godolia, figlio di Aicam, figlio di Safan, giurò nelle sue parole dicendo ad essi e ai loro compagni: «Non abbiate paura di servire ai Caldei, abitate nel paese e servite al re di Babilonia e vi troverete bene.
10 saying that he himself would remain in Mizpah, as their intermediary with the Chaldeans who should come to them. They were to collect the wine, the fruit, and the oil, to store them in jars, and to settle in the cities they occupied.	10 Come vedete io sto di residenza in Masfa, agli ordini dei Caldei che vengono mandati a noi: voi dunque vendemmiate e raccogliete e fate l'olio e riponete in serbo le vostre provviste, e rimanetevene nelle vostre città che già occupate».
11 When the people of Judah in Moab, those among the Ammonites, those in Edom, and those in all other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah, and had appointed over them Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,	11 Ma anche tutti i Giudei che erano in Moab e tra i figli di Ammon e nell'Idumea e in tutte le altre regioni, udito che il re di Babilonia aveva lasciato nella Giudea il residuo della popolazione e che aveva dato a loro governatore Godolia figlio di Aicam, figlio di Safan,
12 they all returned to the land of Judah from the places to which they had scattered. They went to Gedaliah at Mizpah and had a rich harvest of wine and fruit.	12 questi Giudei, come diceva, ritornarono da tutti i luoghi dove erano fuggiti e vennero nella terra di Giuda da Godolia in Masfa e poi fecero una vendemmia e una raccolta abbondantissima.
13 Now Johanan, son of Kareah, and all the leaders of the armies in the field came to Gedaliah in Mizpah	13 Joanan dunque, figlio di Caree, e tutti i capi dell'esercito che erano stati dispersi per quei paesi vennero a Godolia in Masfa,
14 and asked him whether he did not know that Baalis, the king of the Ammonites, had sent Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, to assassinate him.	14 e gli dissero: «Sappi che Baalis, re dei figli di Ammon, ha mandato Ismael figlio di Natania per ucciderti». Godolia figlio di Aicam però non prestò fede a loro.
15 But Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, would not believe them. Then Johanan, son of Kareah, said secretly to Gedaliah in Mizpah: "Let me go and kill Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; no one will know it. Why should he be allowed to kill you? All the Jews who have now rallied to you will be dispersed and the remnant of Judah will perish."	15 Allora Joanan, figlio di Caree, là in Masfa, parlò a Godolia segretamente dicendogli: «Lascia, andrò io e ucciderò Ismael figlio di Natania senza che alcuno sappia, affinchè non uccida te e non vadano dispersi tutti i Giudei che sono raccolti teco, e così finiscano di perire le reliquie di Giuda».
16 Nevertheless, Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, answered Johanan, son of Kareah, "You shall do nothing of the kind; you have lied about Ishmael."	16 Ma Godolia figlio di Aicam disse a Joanan figlio di Caree: «Non fare questa cosa, è certamente falso ciò che tu asserisci di Ismael».
