1 This word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after Nebuzaradan, captain of the bodyguard, had released him in Ramah, where he had found him a prisoner in chains, among the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.	1 Jérémie avait été arrêté. Il était là au milieu de tous les déportés de Jérusalem et de Juda qu’on allait emmener à Babylone, lorsque Nébouzaradan, chef des gardes, le renvoya. Et de nouveau la parole de Yahvé lui fut adressée.
2 When the captain of the bodyguard took charge of Jeremiah, he said to him, "The LORD, your God, foretold the ruin of this place.	2 Le chef des gardes prit à part Jérémie pour lui dire: “Yahvé ton Dieu a prédit le malheur qui frapperait ce lieu.
3 Now he has brought about in deed what he threatened; because you sinned against the LORD and did not obey his voice, this fate has befallen you.	3 Yahvé a fait cela parce que vous avez péché contre lui; tout cela vous est arrivé parce que vous n’avez pas écouté sa voix.
4 And now, I am freeing you today from the fetters that bind your hands; if it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, you may come: I will look after you well. But if it does not please you to come to Babylon, you need not come. See, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think good and proper";	4 Maintenant donc, je te libère de tes chaînes. S’il te paraît bon de venir avec moi à Babylone, viens et je veillerai sur toi, mais si cela ne te convient pas, tu peux ne pas venir avec moi à Babylone. Vois, tout le pays t’est ouvert, va où il te semblera bon et juste d’aller.”
5 and then, before he left--"or go to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed ruler over the cities of Judah; stay with him among the people, or go wherever you please." The captain of the bodyguard gave him food and gifts and let him go.	5 Et comme Jérémie ne partait pas encore, Nébouzaradan lui dit: “Retourne donc vers Godolias, fils d’Ahikam fils de Chafan, que le roi de Babylone a établi comme gouverneur des villes de Juda. Reste avec lui au milieu du peuple, ou bien va dans tout autre endroit qui te semblera bon.” Le commandant de la garde lui donna de la nourriture et un cadeau, puis il le renvoya.
6 Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, in Mizpah, and stayed with him among the people left in the land.	6 Jérémie se rendit donc auprès de Godolias fils d’Ahikam, à Mispa, et il resta avec lui au milieu des gens du peuple qu’on avait laissés dans le pays.
7 When the army leaders who were still in the field with all their men heard that the king of Babylon had given Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, charge of the land, of men, women, and children, and of those poor who had not been led captive to Babylon,	7 Tous les chefs de l’armée qui tenaient encore la campagne avec leurs hommes apprirent que le roi de Babylone avait établi Godolias fils d’Ahikam comme gouverneur sur le pays; il lui avait confié les hommes, les femmes et les enfants, tous ceux du petit peuple qui n’avaient pas été déportés à Babylone.
8 they came with their men to Gedaliah in Mizpah: Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; Johanan, son of Kareah; Seraiah, son of Tanhumeth; the sons of Ephai of Netophah; and Jezaniah of Beth-maacah.	8 Ils vinrent donc trouver Godolias à Mispa: c’était Ismaël fils de Nétanya, Yohanan fils de Karéa, Séraya fils de Tanhoumet, les fils de Éfaï le Nétofatite, Yizanyas fils du Maakatite, avec leurs hommes.
9 Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, adjured them and their men not to be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: to stay in the land and submit to the king of Babylon, for their own welfare;	9 Godolias, fils d’Ahikam, fils de Chafan, leur jura à eux et à leurs hommes: “N’ayez pas peur, faites votre soumission aux Kaldéens. Vous resterez dans le pays, vous serez soumis au roi de Babylone et tout ira bien pour vous.
10 saying that he himself would remain in Mizpah, as their intermediary with the Chaldeans who should come to them. They were to collect the wine, the fruit, and the oil, to store them in jars, and to settle in the cities they occupied.	10 Quant à moi, je m’installe à Mispa comme responsable vis-à-vis des Kaldéens qui sont venus chez nous. Faites donc la récolte du vin, des fruits et de l’huile; vous les mettrez en réserve dans vos jarres et vous resterez dans les villes que vous occupez.”
11 When the people of Judah in Moab, those among the Ammonites, those in Edom, and those in all other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah, and had appointed over them Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,	11 Tous les Judéens qui étaient au pays de Moab, chez les Ammonites ou en Édom, apprirent dans ces différents pays que le roi de Babylone avait laissé un reste à Juda, et qu’il avait établi sur eux Godolias, fils d’Ahikam fils de Chafan.
12 they all returned to the land of Judah from the places to which they had scattered. They went to Gedaliah at Mizpah and had a rich harvest of wine and fruit.	12 Tous ces Judéens, donc, revinrent de tous les endroits où ils étaient dispersés; ils arrivèrent au pays de Juda auprès de Godolias, à Mispa et ils recueillirent le vin et les fruits en grande quantité.
13 Now Johanan, son of Kareah, and all the leaders of the armies in the field came to Gedaliah in Mizpah	13 Yohanan fils de Karéa et tous les chefs de l’armée qui étaient dans la campagne, vinrent trouver Godolias à Mispa.
14 and asked him whether he did not know that Baalis, the king of the Ammonites, had sent Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, to assassinate him.	14 Ils lui dirent: “Sais-tu que Baalis, roi des Ammonites, a envoyé Ismaël fils de Nétanya pour te tuer.” Mais Godolias fils d’Ahikam refusa de les croire.
15 But Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, would not believe them. Then Johanan, son of Kareah, said secretly to Gedaliah in Mizpah: "Let me go and kill Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; no one will know it. Why should he be allowed to kill you? All the Jews who have now rallied to you will be dispersed and the remnant of Judah will perish."	15 Alors Yohanan fils de Karéa dit en secret à Godolias, à Mispa: “J’irai frapper Ismaël fils de Nétanya, et personne ne le saura. S’il venait à te frapper, tous les Judéens qui se sont réunis autour de toi se disperseraient. Il ne faut pas que le reste de Juda disparaisse.”
16 Nevertheless, Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, answered Johanan, son of Kareah, "You shall do nothing of the kind; you have lied about Ishmael."	16 Mais Godolias fils d’Ahikam, répondit à Yohanan fils de Karéa: “Ne fais pas cela; ce que tu dis au sujet d’Ismaël est sûrement faux.”
