Jeremiah 40

1 This word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after Nebuzaradan, captain of the bodyguard, had released him in Ramah, where he had found him a prisoner in chains, among the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.	1 Parola indirizzata dal Signore a Geremia dopo che egli in Rama fu messo in libertà da Nabuzardan capo dell'esercito, il quale l'aveva portato incatenato in mezzo a tutti quelli che migravano da Gerusalemme e da Giuda, deportati a Babilonia.
2 When the captain of the bodyguard took charge of Jeremiah, he said to him, "The LORD, your God, foretold the ruin of this place.	2 Il capo dell'esercito prese adunque Geremia e gli disse: « Il Signore Dio tuo aveva predetta questa sventura sopra questo luogo,
3 Now he has brought about in deed what he threatened; because you sinned against the LORD and did not obey his voice, this fate has befallen you.	3 e l'ha fatta venire: il Signore ha fatto come ha detto, perchè voi avete peccato contro il Signore, non siete stati a sentire la sua voce, e vi sono accadute queste cose.
4 And now, I am freeing you today from the fetters that bind your hands; if it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, you may come: I will look after you well. But if it does not please you to come to Babylon, you need not come. See, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think good and proper";	4 Or dunque in questo giorno io ti sciolgo dalle catene che hai alle mani. Se ti piace di venire con me a Babilonia, vieni, ed io avrò cura di te; se poi non ti piace di venir con me a Babilonia, resta pure: ecco, tutta la terra è a tua disposizione, scegli e va dove ti piace d'andare.
5 and then, before he left--"or go to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed ruler over the cities of Judah; stay with him among the people, or go wherever you please." The captain of the bodyguard gave him food and gifts and let him go.	5 Allora non venire con me, ma va a stare con Godolia, figlio di Ahicam figlio di Safan, che il re di Babilonia ha messo a capo delle città di Giuda, sta dunque con lui in mezzo al popolo, e va dovunque ti piace d'andare ». Poi il capo dell'esercito gli diede dei viveri e dei doni e lo licenziò.
6 Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, in Mizpah, and stayed with him among the people left in the land.	6 E Geremia andò in Masfa, da Godolia figlio di Ahicam, ed abitò con lui in mezzo al popolo che era stato lasciato nel paese. Godolia governatore della Giudea non crede alle trame contro di lui
7 When the army leaders who were still in the field with all their men heard that the king of Babylon had given Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, charge of the land, of men, women, and children, and of those poor who had not been led captive to Babylon,	7 Or quando tutti i capi dell'esercito, che si eran dispersi con i loro compagni per le contrade, sentirono che il re di Babilonia aveva dato il governo del paese a Godolia figlio di Ahicam, e che a lui aveva affidati gli uomini, le donne, i bambini e, tra i poveri del paese, quelli non deportati a Babilonia,
8 they came with their men to Gedaliah in Mizpah: Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; Johanan, son of Kareah; Seraiah, son of Tanhumeth; the sons of Ephai of Netophah; and Jezaniah of Beth-maacah.	8 andarono a trovare Godolia in Masfa. (Vi andarono): Ismaele figlio di Natania, Iohanan e Gionata figli di Caree, Saroas figlio di Taneumet, i figli di Ofi, che erano di Netofati, Iezonia, figlio di Maacati, essi e i loro uomini.
9 Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, adjured them and their men not to be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: to stay in the land and submit to the king of Babylon, for their own welfare;	9 E Godolia, figlio di Ahicam figlio di Safan, con giuramento disse ad essi ed ai loro compagni: « Non temete di servire ai Caldei, dimorate nel paese, servite al re di Babilonia e vivrete felici.
10 saying that he himself would remain in Mizpah, as their intermediary with the Chaldeans who should come to them. They were to collect the wine, the fruit, and the oil, to store them in jars, and to settle in the cities they occupied.	10 Ecco io sto in Masfa per essere agli ordini dei Caldei che son mandati a noi: voi vendemmiate, fate la raccolta del grano e dell'olio, riempitene i vostri vasi, e rimanete nelle vostre città che occupate ».
11 When the people of Judah in Moab, those among the Ammonites, those in Edom, and those in all other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah, and had appointed over them Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,	11 Anche tutti gli altri Giudei che erano in Moab, tra i figli d'Ammon, nell'Idumea e in tutte le altre regioni, sentito che il re di Babilonia aveva lasciato degli avanzi in Giudea ed aveva messo a capo di essi Godolia, figlio di Ahicam figlio di Safan,
12 they all returned to the land of Judah from the places to which they had scattered. They went to Gedaliah at Mizpah and had a rich harvest of wine and fruit.	12 ritornarono — dico — tutti questi Giudei da tutti i luoghi dove s'erano rifugiati, e andarono nella terra di Giuda, da Godolia in Masfa, e fecero del vino e del grano una raccolta oltremodo abbondante.
13 Now Johanan, son of Kareah, and all the leaders of the armies in the field came to Gedaliah in Mizpah	13 Or Iohanan, figlio di Caree, e tutti i capi dell'esercito, che si eran dispersi per le contrade, andarono da Godolia in Masfa,
14 and asked him whether he did not know that Baalis, the king of the Ammonites, had sent Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, to assassinate him.	14 e dissero: « Sappi che Baalis, re dei figli d'Ammon, ha mandato Ismaele, figlio di Natania, ad ucciderti ». E Godolia, figlio di Ahicam, non prestò loro fede.
15 But Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, would not believe them. Then Johanan, son of Kareah, said secretly to Gedaliah in Mizpah: "Let me go and kill Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; no one will know it. Why should he be allowed to kill you? All the Jews who have now rallied to you will be dispersed and the remnant of Judah will perish."	15 Iohanan, figlio di Cavee, disse in segreto a Godolia in Masfa: « Io andrò ad uccidere Ismaele figlio di Natania, senza che alcun lo sappia; cosi egli non ti ucciderà, tanti Giudei che si sono radunati intorno a te non saran dispersi e non periranno gli avanzi di Giuda ».
16 Nevertheless, Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, answered Johanan, son of Kareah, "You shall do nothing of the kind; you have lied about Ishmael."	16 Ma Godolia, figlio di Ahicam, disse a Iohanan, figlio di Caree: « Non far questo, perchè è falso quanto dici d'Ismaele ».
