Jeremiah 40

1 This word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after Nebuzaradan, captain of the bodyguard, had released him in Ramah, where he had found him a prisoner in chains, among the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.	1 Questa è la parola che fu rivolta a Geremia da parte del Signore, dopo che Nabuzaradàn, capo della guardia, lo ebbe rinviato da Rama, avendolo preso mentre era legato con catene in mezzo a tutti i deportati di Gerusalemme e di Giuda che venivano condotti a Babilonia.
2 When the captain of the bodyguard took charge of Jeremiah, he said to him, "The LORD, your God, foretold the ruin of this place.	2 Il capo della guardia prese Geremia e gli disse: "Il Signore, Dio tuo, ha predetto questa sventura contro questo luogo;
3 Now he has brought about in deed what he threatened; because you sinned against the LORD and did not obey his voice, this fate has befallen you.	3 ha fatto, dunque, arrivare e ha operato quanto aveva predetto, perché avete peccato contro il Signore e non avete ascoltato la sua voce. Perciò è accaduta contro di voi una tale cosa.
4 And now, I am freeing you today from the fetters that bind your hands; if it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, you may come: I will look after you well. But if it does not please you to come to Babylon, you need not come. See, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think good and proper";	4 Ma ora ecco, io ti sciolgo oggi dalle catene che sono sulle tue mani. Se piace ai tuoi occhi venire con me a Babilonia, vieni e io porrò il mio occhio su di te; se, invece, non piace ai tuoi occhi venire con me a Babilonia, rimani. Guarda: tutto il paese è dinanzi a te; dove è buono e dove è giusto ai tuoi occhi andare, vacci.
5 and then, before he left--"or go to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed ruler over the cities of Judah; stay with him among the people, or go wherever you please." The captain of the bodyguard gave him food and gifts and let him go.	5 Siccome ancora non ritorna Godolia, allora torna tu da Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, figlio di Safàn, che il re di Babilonia ha preposto per le città di Giuda, e resta con lui in mezzo al popolo, ovvero ovunque è più giusto ai tuoi occhi andare, va'!". Poi il capo della guardia gli diede delle provviste e un regalo; quindi lo rilasciò.
6 Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, in Mizpah, and stayed with him among the people left in the land.	6 Geremia andò da Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, in Mizpà. Così abitò con lui in mezzo al popolo che era rimasto nel paese.
7 When the army leaders who were still in the field with all their men heard that the king of Babylon had given Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, charge of the land, of men, women, and children, and of those poor who had not been led captive to Babylon,	7 Or tutti i capi dei soldati che tenevano il campo con i loro uomini udirono che il re di Babilonia aveva preposto nel paese Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, e che aveva affidato a lui uomini, donne e fanciulli e la gente povera del paese, coloro che non furono deportati in Babilonia.
8 they came with their men to Gedaliah in Mizpah: Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; Johanan, son of Kareah; Seraiah, son of Tanhumeth; the sons of Ephai of Netophah; and Jezaniah of Beth-maacah.	8 Allora vennero presso Godolia, in Mizpà, Ismaele, figlio di Natania, Giovanni, figlio di Kàreca, Seraià, figlio di Tancùmet, i figli di Ofi, di Netofa e Iezanià, figlio del maacatita, con i loro uomini.
9 Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, adjured them and their men not to be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: to stay in the land and submit to the king of Babylon, for their own welfare;	9 Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, figlio di Safàn, giurò loro e ai loro uomini: "Non abbiate timore di servire i Caldei. Restate nel paese e servite il re di Babilonia e sarà bene per voi.
10 saying that he himself would remain in Mizpah, as their intermediary with the Chaldeans who should come to them. They were to collect the wine, the fruit, and the oil, to store them in jars, and to settle in the cities they occupied.	10 In quanto a me, eccomi: io abito in Mizpà, come rappresentante dinanzi ai Caldei che verranno da noi. Voi, pertanto, raccogliete vino e frutta e olio e ponetelo nei vostri recipienti e stabilitevi nelle città da voi occupate".
11 When the people of Judah in Moab, those among the Ammonites, those in Edom, and those in all other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah, and had appointed over them Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,	11 Anche tutti i Giudei che erano in Moab e tra gli Ammoniti e in Edom e quelli che erano in tutti i paesi udirono che il re di Babilonia aveva lasciato un resto in Giuda e aveva preposto su di loro Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, figlio di Safàn.
12 they all returned to the land of Judah from the places to which they had scattered. They went to Gedaliah at Mizpah and had a rich harvest of wine and fruit.	12 Ritornarono, dunque, tutti i Giudei da ogni luogo dove erano dispersi e vennero nel territorio di Giuda presso Godolia in Mizpà e raccolsero vino e frutta abbondante.
13 Now Johanan, son of Kareah, and all the leaders of the armies in the field came to Gedaliah in Mizpah	13 Giovanni, figlio di Kàreca, e tutti i capi dell'esercito che erano al campo, vennero presso Godolia in Mizpà
14 and asked him whether he did not know that Baalis, the king of the Ammonites, had sent Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, to assassinate him.	14 e gli dissero: "Non sai che Baalìs, re degli Ammoniti, ha inviato Ismaele, figlio di Natania, per ucciderti?". Ma Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, non credette loro.
15 But Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, would not believe them. Then Johanan, son of Kareah, said secretly to Gedaliah in Mizpah: "Let me go and kill Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; no one will know it. Why should he be allowed to kill you? All the Jews who have now rallied to you will be dispersed and the remnant of Judah will perish."	15 Allora Giovanni, figlio di Kàreca, disse a Godolia, segretamente in Mizpà: "Voglio andare e uccidere Ismaele, figlio di Natania, ma nessuno lo sappia. Perché deve uccidere te, sicché vengano dispersi tutti i Giudei raccolti attorno a te e perisca il resto di Giuda?".
16 Nevertheless, Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, answered Johanan, son of Kareah, "You shall do nothing of the kind; you have lied about Ishmael."	16 Ma Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, rispose a Giovanni, figlio di Kàreca: "Non fare una tale cosa, poiché è menzogna ciò che tu stai dicendo contro Ismaele".
