Jeremiah 40

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 This word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after Nebuzaradan, captain of the bodyguard, had released him in Ramah, where he had found him a prisoner in chains, among the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were being exiled to Babylon.	1 Parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de Yahvé, après que Nebuzaradân, commandant de lagarde, l'eut renvoyé de Rama, l'ayant pris alors qu'il se trouvait enchaîné au milieu de tous les captifs deJérusalem et de Juda qu'on déportait à Babylone.
2 When the captain of the bodyguard took charge of Jeremiah, he said to him, "The LORD, your God, foretold the ruin of this place.	2 Le commandant de la garde prit donc Jérémie et lui dit: "Yahvé, ton Dieu, avait prédit ce malheurpour ce pays
3 Now he has brought about in deed what he threatened; because you sinned against the LORD and did not obey his voice, this fate has befallen you.	3 et il l'a amené. Yahvé a agi selon ses menaces. C'est que vous avez péché contre Yahvé sansécouter sa voix: alors ce malheur vous est arrivé.
4 And now, I am freeing you today from the fetters that bind your hands; if it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, you may come: I will look after you well. But if it does not please you to come to Babylon, you need not come. See, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think good and proper";	4 Maintenant, vois, je te délivre aujourd'hui même des chaînes que tu as aux mains. S'il te plaît dem'accompagner à Babylone, viens, j'aurai les yeux sur toi. S'il te déplaît de m'y accompagner, abstiens-toi. Vois,tout le pays est devant toi; tu peux aller où cela te semble bon et juste d'aller."
5 and then, before he left--"or go to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed ruler over the cities of Judah; stay with him among the people, or go wherever you please." The captain of the bodyguard gave him food and gifts and let him go.	5 Et comme Jérémie ne s'en retournait pas encore, il ajouta: "Tu peux te tourner vers Godolias, filsd'Ahiqam, fils de Shaphân, que le roi de Babylone a nommé gouverneur des villes de Juda, et rester avec lui aumilieu du peuple, ou bien aller partout où cela te semble bon." Puis le commandant de la garde, lui ayant remisdes vivres et un présent, le congédia.
6 Jeremiah went to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, in Mizpah, and stayed with him among the people left in the land.	6 Et Jérémie se rendit à Miçpa, auprès de Godolias, fils d'Ahiqam, et demeura avec lui, parmi ceuxdu peuple qui étaient restés dans le pays.
7 When the army leaders who were still in the field with all their men heard that the king of Babylon had given Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, charge of the land, of men, women, and children, and of those poor who had not been led captive to Babylon,	7 Tous les officiers de l'armée qui, avec leurs hommes, étaient dans la campagne, apprirent que le roide Babylone avait institué Godolias, fils d'Ahiqam, comme gouverneur du pays et lui avait confié hommes,femmes et enfants, et ceux du petit peuple qui n'avaient pas été déportés à Babylone.
8 they came with their men to Gedaliah in Mizpah: Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; Johanan, son of Kareah; Seraiah, son of Tanhumeth; the sons of Ephai of Netophah; and Jezaniah of Beth-maacah.	8 Ils vinrent auprès de Godolias à Miçpa: Yishmaël, fils de Netanyahu, Yohanân et Yonatân, fils deQaréah, Seraya, fils de Tanhumèt, les fils de Ephaï le Netophatite, Yizanyahu, fils du Maakatite, eux et leurshommes.
9 Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, adjured them and their men not to be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: to stay in the land and submit to the king of Babylon, for their own welfare;	9 Godolias, fils d'Ahiqam, fils de Shaphân, leur fit un serment, à eux et à leurs hommes: "Necraignez pas de servir les Chaldéens, restez au pays, servez le roi de Babylone et vous vous en trouverez bien.
10 saying that he himself would remain in Mizpah, as their intermediary with the Chaldeans who should come to them. They were to collect the wine, the fruit, and the oil, to store them in jars, and to settle in the cities they occupied.	10 Pour moi, voici, je m'établis à Miçpa comme responsable en face des Chaldéens qui viennentchez nous. Mais vous, faites la récolte du vin, des fruits et de l'huile, remplissez vos jarres et demeurez en vosvilles, que vous occupez."
11 When the people of Judah in Moab, those among the Ammonites, those in Edom, and those in all other lands heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah, and had appointed over them Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,	11 Pareillement, tous les Judéens qui se trouvaient en Moab, chez les Ammonites, en Edom et entout autre pays, avaient appris que le roi de Babylone avait laissé un reste à Juda et avait préposé sur luiGodolias, fils d'Ahiqam, fils de Shaphân.
12 they all returned to the land of Judah from the places to which they had scattered. They went to Gedaliah at Mizpah and had a rich harvest of wine and fruit.	12 Tous ces Judéens revinrent donc de tous les lieux où ils s'étaient dispersés; rentrés au pays deJuda, près de Godolias, à Miçpa, ils firent une récolte très abondante de vin et de fruits.
13 Now Johanan, son of Kareah, and all the leaders of the armies in the field came to Gedaliah in Mizpah	13 Yohanân, fils de Qaréah, et tous les officiers de l'armée qui étaient dans la campagne vinrenttrouver Godolias à Miçpa
14 and asked him whether he did not know that Baalis, the king of the Ammonites, had sent Ishmael, son of Nethaniah, to assassinate him.	14 et lui dirent: "Sais-tu que Baalis, roi des Ammonites, a donné mission à Yishmaël, fils deNetanya, d'attenter à ta vie?" Mais Godolias, fils d'Ahiqam, ne les crut pas.
15 But Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, would not believe them. Then Johanan, son of Kareah, said secretly to Gedaliah in Mizpah: "Let me go and kill Ishmael, son of Nethaniah; no one will know it. Why should he be allowed to kill you? All the Jews who have now rallied to you will be dispersed and the remnant of Judah will perish."	15 Yohanân, fils de Qaréah, dit même en secret à Godolias, à Miçpa: "J'irai tuer Yishmaël, fils deNetanya, sans que personne le sache. Pourquoi attenterait-il à ta vie, et pourquoi tous les Judéens rassemblésautour de toi seraient-ils dispersés? Pourquoi le reste de Juda périrait-il?"
16 Nevertheless, Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, answered Johanan, son of Kareah, "You shall do nothing of the kind; you have lied about Ishmael."	16 Mais Godolias, fils d'Ahiqam, répondit à Yohanân, fils de Qaréah: "Ne fais pas cela, car ce que tudis sur Yishmaël est faux!"
