Isaiah 46

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols are upon beasts and cattle; They must be borne up on shoulders, carried as burdens by the weary.	1 Bel s'est courbé, Nebo s'effondre. Leurs idoles sont confiées aux animaux et aux bêtes de somme, cescharges que vous souleviez, c'est un fardeau pour la bête fourbue.
2 They stoop and bow down together; unable to save those who bear them, they too go into captivity.	2 Elles se sont effondrées, courbées toutes ensemble, on ne peut sauver ce fardeau, elles sont alléeselles-mêmes en captivité.
3 Hear me, O house of Jacob, all who remain of the house of Israel, My burden since your birth, whom I have carried from your infancy.	3 Ecoutez-moi, maison de Jacob, tout ce qui reste de la maison d'Israël, vous que j'ai portés dès votrenaissance, soulevés depuis le berceau.
4 Even to your old age I am the same, even when your hair is gray I will bear you; It is I who have done this, I who will continue, and I who will carry you to safety.	4 Jusqu'à la vieillesse je reste le même, jusqu'aux cheveux blancs je vous porterai: moi, je l'ai déjà fait,moi je vous soulèverai, moi, je vous porterai et je vous sauverai.
5 Whom would you compare me with, as an equal, or match me against, as though we were alike?	5 A qui voulez-vous m'assimiler et m'identifier, à qui me comparer, à qui suis-je semblable?
6 There are those who pour out gold from a purse and weigh out silver on the scales; Then they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god before which they fall down in worship.	6 Certains déversent l'or de leur bourse, et pèsent l'argent à la balance, ils embauchent un orfèvre pourfaire un dieu, ils s'inclinent et ils adorent.
7 They lift it to their shoulders to carry; when they set it in place again, it stays, and does not move from the spot. Although they cry out to it, it cannot answer; it delivers no one from distress.	7 Ils le mettent sur l'épaule et l'emportent, ils le déposent à sa place pour qu'il s'y tienne, pour qu'il n'enbouge pas. On a beau l'invoquer, il ne répond pas, de la détresse il ne sauve pas.
8 Remember this and be firm, bear it well in mind, you rebels; remember the former things, those long ago:	8 Souvenez-vous-en et soyez des hommes, révoltés, rentrez en vous-mêmes.
9 I am God, there is no other; I am God, there is none like me.	9 Souvenez-vous des choses passées depuis longtemps, car je suis Dieu, il n'y en a pas d'autre, Dieu, etpersonne n'est semblable à moi.
10 At the beginning I foretell the outcome; in advance, things not yet done. I say that my plan shall stand, I accomplish my every purpose.	10 J'annonce dès l'origine ce qui doit arriver, d'avance, ce qui n'est pas encore accompli, je dis: Monprojet se réalisera, j'accomplirai ce qui me plaît;
11 I call from the east a bird of prey, from a distant land, one to carry out my plan. Yes, I have spoken, I will accomplish it; I have planned it, and I will do it.	11 j'appelle depuis l'Orient un rapace, d'un pays lointain l'homme que j'ai prédestiné. Ce que j'ai dit, jel'exécute, mon dessein, je l'accomplis.
12 Listen to me, you fainthearted, you who seem far from the victory of justice:	12 Ecoutez-moi, hommes au coeur dur, vous qui êtes loin de la justice,
13 I am bringing on my justice, it is not far off, my salvation shall not tarry; I will put salvation within Zion, and give to Israel my glory.	13 j'ai fait venir ma justice, elle n'est pas loin, mon salut ne tardera pas. Je mettrai en Sion le salut, jedonnerai à Israël ma gloire.
