Isaiah 46

1 Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols are upon beasts and cattle; They must be borne up on shoulders, carried as burdens by the weary.	1 Bel s’écroule, Nébo s’effondre. On charge leurs statues sur des animaux, sur des bêtes de somme, leurs objets sacrés sont un fardeau pour les bêtes fatiguées.
2 They stoop and bow down together; unable to save those who bear them, they too go into captivity.	2 Elles s’affaissent et avec elles ils tombent, incapables de sauver ceux qui les portent. Eux aussi s’en vont en captivité.
3 Hear me, O house of Jacob, all who remain of the house of Israel, My burden since your birth, whom I have carried from your infancy.	3 Écoutez-moi donc, maison de Jacob, vous tous qui restez de la maison d’Israël! Je me suis chargé de vous depuis votre naissance, je vous ai portés depuis le sein maternel.
4 Even to your old age I am the same, even when your hair is gray I will bear you; It is I who have done this, I who will continue, and I who will carry you to safety.	4 Je ferai ainsi jusqu’à votre vieillesse, et je vous soutiendrai jusqu’à vos cheveux blancs. Je vous porterai encore, je l’ai déjà fait, je vous soutiendrai et je vous sauverai.
5 Whom would you compare me with, as an equal, or match me against, as though we were alike?	5 À qui pouvez-vous me comparer, et qui est comme moi? Trouverez-vous quelqu’un qui me ressemble?
6 There are those who pour out gold from a purse and weigh out silver on the scales; Then they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god before which they fall down in worship.	6 Voici des gens qui sortent l’or de leur sac, et pèsent l’argent sur une balance. Ils embauchent un artisan pour qu’il leur fasse un dieu; ensuite ils l’adorent et se prosternent devant lui.
7 They lift it to their shoulders to carry; when they set it in place again, it stays, and does not move from the spot. Although they cry out to it, it cannot answer; it delivers no one from distress.	7 Ils le portent à l’épaule, ils l’emmènent, et le déposent à sa place. Alors il reste là et ne quitte plus sa place, ils peuvent bien crier, lui ne répondra pas, il ne les sauvera pas du malheur.
8 Remember this and be firm, bear it well in mind, you rebels; remember the former things, those long ago:	8 Souvenez-vous de cela pour en tirer la leçon, pensez bien à cela, infidèles!
9 I am God, there is no other; I am God, there is none like me.	9 Souvenez-vous des événements passés, des choses d’autrefois. Moi je suis Dieu, il n’y en a pas d’autre: il n’y a rien de divin hors de moi.
10 At the beginning I foretell the outcome; in advance, things not yet done. I say that my plan shall stand, I accomplish my every purpose.	10 Dès le début, j’annonce ce qui viendra après, je dis d’avance ce qui n’est pas encore fait. Je dis, et mon projet se réalise, tout ce que j’ai voulu se fera.
11 I call from the east a bird of prey, from a distant land, one to carry out my plan. Yes, I have spoken, I will accomplish it; I have planned it, and I will do it.	11 Du levant j’appelle un aigle, d’un pays lointain je fais venir l’homme qui accomplira mes projets. J’ai parlé, les choses arriveront, j’ai décidé, elles se feront.
12 Listen to me, you fainthearted, you who seem far from the victory of justice:	12 Écoutez-moi, gens à la tête dure, si étrangers à la justice.
13 I am bringing on my justice, it is not far off, my salvation shall not tarry; I will put salvation within Zion, and give to Israel my glory.	13 J’ai déjà là ma victoire, elle n’est plus loin, mon salut ne tardera pas. Je donnerai le salut à Sion et la grandeur sera pour Israël.
