Sirach 39

1 How different the man who devotes himself to the study of the law of the Most High! He explores the wisdom of the men of old and occupies himself with the prophecies;	1 Differente è chi consacra se stesso a meditare nella legge dell'Altissimo. Ricerca la sapienza di tutti gli antichi e si occupa delle profezie.
2 He treasures the discourses of famous men, and goes to the heart of involved sayings;	2 Conserva i detti degli uomini famosi e penetra la complessità delle parabole.
3 He studies obscure parables, and is busied with the hidden meanings of the sages.	3 Cerca il senso nascosto dei proverbi ed è perspicace negli enigmi delle parabole.
4 He is in attendance on the great, and has entrance to the ruler.	4 In mezzo ai grandi offrirà i suoi servizi e starà alla presenza dei governanti; visiterà le terre dei popoli stranieri per provare il bene e il male fra gli uomini.
5 He travels among the peoples of foreign lands to learn what is good and evil among men.	5 Gli sta a cuore l'alzarsi presto per il Signore che l'ha fatto; davanti all'Altissimo farà la sua supplica, aprirà la sua bocca nella preghiera, implorerà per i suoi peccati.
6 His care is to seek the LORD, his Maker, to petition the Most High, To open his lips in prayer, to ask pardon for his sins. Then, if it pleases the LORD Almighty, he will be filled with the spirit of understanding; He will pour forth his words of wisdom and in prayer give thanks to the LORD,	6 Se il Signore grande lo vuole, sarà riempito di spirito d'intelligenza; effonderà le parole della sua sapienza e nella preghiera ringrazierà il Signore.
7 Who will direct his knowledge and his counsel, as he meditates upon his mysteries.	7 E' disposto a offrire consigli e conoscenza e riflette sulle cose nascoste già apprese;
8 He will show the wisdom of what he has learned and glory in the law of the LORD'S covenant.	8 manifesta la dottrina imparata con lo studio e va fiero della legge dell'alleanza del Signore.
9 Many will praise his understanding; his fame can never be effaced; Unfading will be his memory, through all generations his name will live;	9 Molti loderanno la sua intelligenza, essa non sarà mai dimenticata; la sua memoria non sarà perduta e il suo nome vivrà per tutte le generazioni.
10 Peoples will speak of his wisdom, and in assembly sing his praises.	10 I popoli parleranno della sua sapienza e l'assemblea canterà la sua lode.
11 While he lives he is one out of a thousand, and when he dies his renown will not cease.	11 Se vive a lungo lascerà, più che mille, un nome, e se muore, quanto ha fatto è sufficiente.
12 Once more I will set forth my theme to shine like the moon in its fullness!	12 Parlerò ancora delle mie riflessioni; io sono colmo come la luna piena.
13 Listen, my faithful children: open up your petals, like roses planted near running waters;	13 Ascoltatemi, o figli devoti, e fiorite, come rosa che nasce lungo un corso d'acqua.
14 Send up the sweet odor of incense, break forth in blossoms like the lily. Send up the sweet odor of your hymn of praise; bless the LORD for all he has done!	14 Mandate odore, fragrante come incenso, e fate spuntare i petali come il giglio; levate la voce e cantate insieme, lodate il Signore per tutte le sue opere.
15 Proclaim the greatness of his name, loudly sing his praises, With music on the harp and all stringed instruments; sing out with joy as you proclaim:	15 Riconoscete la grandezza del suo nome, e ringraziatelo con la lode che gli spetta, con i canti delle labbra e con le arpe; dite così nel ringraziamento:
16 The works of God are all of them good; in its own time every need is supplied.	16 Le opere del Signore son tutte molto belle, ogni suo comando si compie a suo tempo. Non deve dirsi: "Cos'è questo? Perché quello?", perché ogni cosa sarà riutilizzata a suo tempo.
17 At his word the waters become still as in a flask; he had but to speak and the reservoirs were made.	17 Alla sua parola stette l'acqua come un cumulo, al cenno della sua bocca si formarono serbatoi d'acqua.
18 He has but to command and his will is done; nothing can limit his achievement.	18 Quando comanda, si compie tutta la sua volontà, nessuno sminuisce la sua opera di salvezza.
19 The works of all mankind are present to him; not a thing escapes his eye.	19 Le opere di ogni uomo sono davanti a lui, è impossibile nascondersi ai suoi occhi.
20 His gaze spans all the ages; to him there is nothing unexpected.	20 Egli veglia dal principio alla fine del tempo, non c'è sorpresa alcuna al suo cospetto.
21 No cause then to say: "What is the purpose of this?" Everything is chosen to satisfy a need.	21 Non deve dirsi: "Cos'è questo? Perché quello?". Tutto è stato creato secondo il suo scopo.
22 His blessing overflows like the Nile; like the Euphrates it enriches the surface of the earth.	22 La sua benedizione ricopre come un fiume, e inonda l'asciutto come un diluvio.
23 Again, his wrath expels the nations and turns fertile land into a salt marsh.	23 La sua ira s'abbatterà sui popoli, così come ha mutato le acque in salsedine.
24 For the virtuous his paths are level, to the haughty they are steep;	24 Le sue vie sono diritte per i devoti, ma sono un inciampo per gli empi.
25 Good things for the good he provided from the beginning, but for the wicked good things and bad.	25 I beni furono creati all'inizio per i buoni, così le cose cattive per i peccatori.
26 Chief of all needs for human life are water and fire, iron and salt, The heart of the wheat, milk and honey, the blood of the grape, and oil, and cloth;	26 L'essenziale che occorre per la vita dell'uomo: acqua, fuoco, ferro, sale, farina di frumento, latte, miele, sangue d'uva, olio e vestito.
27 For the good all these are good, but for the wicked they turn out evil.	27 Tutte queste cose sono un bene per i buoni, ma si volgono in male per i peccatori.
28 There are storm winds created to punish, which in their fury can dislodge mountains; When destruction must be, they hurl all their force and appease the anger of their Maker.	28 Ci sono venti che sono stati creati per la vendetta, nella loro furia rafforzano i loro flagelli; al tempo della fine riversano la loro violenza e calmano il furore di chi li ha fatti.
29 In his treasury also, kept for the proper time, are fire and hail, famine, disease,	29 Fuoco e grandine, carestia e morte: tutte queste cose sono state create per la vendetta.
30 Ravenous beasts, scorpions, vipers, and the avenging sword to exterminate the wicked;	30 I denti delle bestie, gli scorpioni e le vipere, la spada che ripaga gli empi e li distrugge:
31 In doing his bidding they rejoice, in their assignments they disobey not his command.	31 si rallegrano quando lui li comanda, stanno pronti sulla terra secondo il bisogno e al momento giusto eseguono la sua parola.
32 So from the first I took my stand, and wrote down as my theme:	32 Perciò dall'inizio ho avuto questa convinzione, vi ho riflettuto e l'ho messa per iscritto:
33 The works of God are all of them good; every need when it comes he fills.	33 le opere del Signore sono tutte buone, egli provvede a suo tempo ad ogni necessità.
34 No cause then to say: "This is not as good as that"; for each shows its worth at the proper time.	34 Non deve dirsi: "Questo è peggiore di quello", perché tutto risulterà giusto a suo tempo.
35 So now with full joy of heart proclaim and bless the name of the Holy One.	35 Ed ora inneggiate con tutto il cuore e con la bocca, e benedite il nome del Signore.
