NEW AMERICAN BIBLEGREEK BIBLE
The vengeful will suffer the LORD'S vengeance, for he remembers their sins in detail.1 ο εκδικων παρα κυριου ευρησει εκδικησιν και τας αμαρτιας αυτου διατηρων διατηρησει
Forgive your neighbor's injustice; then when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven.2 αφες αδικημα τω πλησιον σου και τοτε δεηθεντος σου αι αμαρτιαι σου λυθησονται
Should a man nourish anger against his fellows and expect healing from the LORD?3 ανθρωπος ανθρωπω συντηρει οργην και παρα κυριου ζητει ιασιν
Should a man refuse mercy to his fellows, yet seek pardon for his own sins?4 επ' ανθρωπον ομοιον αυτω ουκ εχει ελεος και περι των αμαρτιων αυτου δειται
If he who is but flesh cherishes wrath, who will forgive his sins?5 αυτος σαρξ ων διατηρει μηνιν τις εξιλασεται τας αμαρτιας αυτου
Remember your last days, set enmity aside; remember death and decay, and cease from sin!6 μνησθητι τα εσχατα και παυσαι εχθραινων καταφθοραν και θανατον και εμμενε εντολαις
Think of the commandments, hate not your neighbor; of the Most High's covenant, and overlook faults.7 μνησθητι εντολων και μη μηνισης τω πλησιον και διαθηκην υψιστου και παριδε αγνοιαν
Avoid strife and your sins will be fewer, for a quarrelsome man kindles disputes,8 αποσχου απο μαχης και ελαττωσεις αμαρτιας ανθρωπος γαρ θυμωδης εκκαυσει μαχην
Commits the sin of disrupting friendship and sows discord among those at peace.9 και ανηρ αμαρτωλος ταραξει φιλους και ανα μεσον ειρηνευοντων εμβαλει διαβολην
The more wood, the greater the fire, the more underlying it, the fiercer the fight; The greater a man's strength, the sterner his anger, the greater his power, the greater his wrath.10 κατα την υλην του πυρος ουτως εκκαυθησεται και κατα την στερεωσιν της μαχης εκκαυθησεται κατα την ισχυν του ανθρωπου ο θυμος αυτου εσται και κατα τον πλουτον ανυψωσει οργην αυτου
Pitch and resin make fires flare up, and insistent quarrels provoke bloodshed.11 ερις κατασπευδομενη εκκαιει πυρ και μαχη κατασπευδουσα εκχεει αιμα
If you blow upon a spark, it quickens into flame, if you spit on it, it dies out; yet both you do with your mouth!12 εαν φυσησης εις σπινθηρα εκκαησεται και εαν πτυσης επ' αυτον σβεσθησεται και αμφοτερα εκ του στοματος σου εκπορευεται
Cursed be gossips and the double-tongued, for they destroy the peace of many.13 ψιθυρον και διγλωσσον καταρασασθε πολλους γαρ ειρηνευοντας απωλεσεν
A meddlesome tongue subverts many, and makes them refugees among the peoples; It destroys walled cities, and overthrows powerful dynasties.14 γλωσσα τριτη πολλους εσαλευσεν και διεστησεν αυτους απο εθνους εις εθνος και πολεις οχυρας καθειλεν και οικιας μεγιστανων κατεστρεψεν
A meddlesome tongue can drive virtuous women from their homes and rob them of the fruit of their toil;15 γλωσσα τριτη γυναικας ανδρειας εξεβαλεν και εστερεσεν αυτας των πονων αυτων
Whoever heeds it has no rest, nor can he dwell in peace.16 ο προσεχων αυτη ου μη ευρη αναπαυσιν ουδε κατασκηνωσει μεθ' ησυχιας
A blow from a whip raises a welt, but a blow from the tongue smashes bones;17 πληγη μαστιγος ποιει μωλωπα πληγη δε γλωσσης συγκλασει οστα
Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, but not as many as by the tongue.18 πολλοι επεσαν εν στοματι μαχαιρας και ουχ ως οι πεπτωκοτες δια γλωσσαν
Happy he who is sheltered from it, and has not endured its wrath; Who has not borne its yoke nor been fettered with its chain;19 μακαριος ο σκεπασθεις απ' αυτης ος ου διηλθεν εν τω θυμω αυτης ος ουχ ειλκυσεν τον ζυγον αυτης και εν τοις δεσμοις αυτης ουκ εδεθη
For its yoke is a yoke of iron and its chains are chains of bronze!20 ο γαρ ζυγος αυτης ζυγος σιδηρους και οι δεσμοι αυτης δεσμοι χαλκειοι
Dire is the death it inflicts, besides which even the nether world is a gain;21 θανατος πονηρος ο θανατος αυτης και λυσιτελης μαλλον ο αδης αυτης
It will not take hold among the just nor scorch them in its flame,22 ου μη κρατηση ευσεβων και εν τη φλογι αυτης ου καησονται
But those who forsake the LORD will fall victims to it, as it burns among them unquenchably! It will hurl itself against them like a lion; like a panther, it will tear them to pieces.23 οι καταλειποντες κυριον εμπεσουνται εις αυτην και εν αυτοις εκκαησεται και ου μη σβεσθη επαποσταλησεται αυτοις ως λεων και ως παρδαλις λυμανειται αυτους
As you hedge round your vineyard with thorns, set barred doors over your mouth;24 ιδε περιφραξον το κτημα σου ακανθαις το αργυριον σου και το χρυσιον καταδησον
As you seal up your silver and gold, so balance and weigh your words.25 και τοις λογοις σου ποιησον ζυγον και σταθμον και τω στοματι σου ποιησον θυραν και μοχλον
Take care not to slip by your tongue and fall victim to your foe waiting in ambush.26 προσεχε μηπως ολισθης εν αυτη μη πεσης κατεναντι ενεδρευοντος
